I think that happens when non-beta users perform an operation which the beta has new code for. I had a friend whose not on the beta voice-chat me, and it popped up another, non-beta window with him, just for the voice chat. Couldn't type in it. Then I tried to invite a non-beta friend to voice chat, and it disallowed me, saying that they're not on the beta. So I had them voice-chat me instead, and it did the same thing. Makes sense that they need some interoperability between the beta and non-beta, and the easiest way to do that is to just conjure up the non-beta code when necessary.

I opened voice chat just to burp in my friend's face and disconnect. Good update

Trying the new beta in FP's Steam group, and it says I'm offline. Clicking the buttons to adjust status don't seem to do anything. That aside, it seems pretty neat to me. It's clear they're trying to emulate Discord, but being able to swap between group chats and keep them persistent is pretty neat, as is the file uploading.

Right now my friends list looks like this: Mount & Blade: Warband -Friend X -Friend Y Beat Saber -Friend Z Non Steam Games: -Friend X again -Friend Y again -Friend Z again <Top Friends Tag> -Friend X again -Friend Y again I guess I'm more amused than mad since it's obviously not finished.

Does anyone have that retarded glitch where if you try to open up a chat with someone, it auto-closes? The new steam beta update should have fixed it, but apparently it didn't fix it for me.

I think the worst thing about the beta is the chat sound. This is the one I still use. The two newer sounds are utter garbage. It's a message BEEP for fuck sake. Stop overcomplicating simple alerts.

Is there any way to get rid of that group chats bar on the bottom of the friends list yet? It's really annoying.

You can shrink it to just show "Group Chats" but other than that, not yet

How the fuck do you disable the "friend plays x game" sound. It's driving me mad. There are no options in the settings menu.

In the new friend list, click the cog icon beside your name. General > Friend Notifications > When a friend joins a game

I've only tried the browser version so far but you need to double-click. Took me a few minutes to figure out what I was doing wrong, this is the first time in years I see a browser require a double-click for an action.
