• Stranger Things actress has apparently quit Twitter over faked homophobic memes

To explain, the meme started with some idiot claiming Millie Bobby Brown ripped her hijab off her head. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DfdQkNqVQAAUJ5u.jpg:large This, being so obviously ridiculous, started a joke of making really obviously fake stories/images about Millie Bobby Brown being homophobic or racist. Then it just spread way too far way too quickly.
I must admit i laughed at some of the images, because of the sheer absurdity of it. However Twitter is hot garbage and promotes cancerous behaviour in general - I hope this doesn't affect her that much.
Maybe it's just me and I'm being a bit of a conspiracy theorist, but does this feel like some Russian psy op maneuver to divide people to anyone else?
No.
I have seen trolls and the alt-right using this strategy before to shutdown any account they wanted ( because fake news propagates like fire and no one even bother if there's a source ), but this is the first time I legitimely see LGBT people doing this to an innocent. Still strange that it started as a series of jokes and degenerated into this.
didnt you know that when you're a victim nothing you do is wrong?
I thought naziswift was objectively funny, but this isn't really that funny.
these obscenely absurd memes only work when they are obscenely absurd, it's not impossible to believe that a celebrity is racist or homophobic.
Russians did not invent saying dumb shit.
No, but they have been pulling typical divide and conquer shit using social media. To give you an example, here's a post from a tumblr account that was confirmed to be a Russian agent.
If I were a celeb there's no way I'd be on social media.
What a bunch of fags.
I mean - it shitty, but I chuckle when I see the memes on my feed
