Hollywood needs a scapegoat for being creatively bankrupt.
Hollywood has been attempting to vilify critics since the Rotten Tomatoes took off and using underhanded tactics to inflate thier critical reception long before that.

You're holding it wrong
As a pretentious white man who loves cinema, while I buy that the people writing these reviews are that way, I have to question what these sites are going for. They're used as metrics by non super into film people, while people who are super into this stuff view these sites as dumb because they attempt to quantify tons of nuanced complex opinions. Same goes for Metacritic.
