Killing dogs for meat illegal, rules S. Korean court

I own a dog and even I think this is popsci level of weird, referring to the humans with no fondness for dogs part.
There isn't much meat on a dog in the first place and pigs aren't picky eaters so why would you bother to eat the dog?
There are more dogs out there than there are homes for them.
Although yeah I wouldn't eat a dog. But that doesn't mean I feel up to legislating that others don't, otherwise I'd be pretty hypocritical since my grounds to say "eating dog = not okay" but "eating pig = okay" is pretty philosophically weak (since it'd just be my feels.)
It is a pretty basic evolutionary concept. Dogs are alarm systems, hunting companions, defenders, pack animals, and childcare providers. They offer a distinct and undeniable edge over the alternative. This means every time food got scarce, or times got hard, there was an excellent chance that significant numbers of non dog users were dying.
This is how evolution works.
This paper goes into detail:

There is some weird evidence supporting it too.

Essentially our brain chemistries are mutually altered by the presence of dogs, but not wolves.
Just because we've engineered dogs for companionship doesn't make it unethical to eat them
These findings support the existence of an interspecies oxytocin-mediated positive loop facilitated and modulated by gazing, which may have supported the coevolution of human-dog bonding by engaging common modes of communicating social attachment.
Humans with no fondness for dogs just straight up dried thousands of years ago, leaving most of humanity with this weird love for dogs in our genetic code.

It shouldn't matter what the majority feels about it, if just one person wants to eat a dog despite the act triggering the entire nation's populace, they should be allowed to do it as long as it's not someone else' pet or done inhumanely.
Growing up around dogs and owning them as pets isn't really a reason to stop others from eating them, honestly, nor is the relationship between dogs and humanity throughout history because, as someone else said, we've had equally strong bonds with cattle and yet if you claim to be against slaughtering cattle, most westerners will make fun of you. It's entirely arbitrary where people draw the line between food/pet.
I might be biased because I'm really not a fan of dogs, but I don't see why it's such an issue to people who aren't strictly vegan. If we can stop people from eating certain (non-endangered) animals based off the fact that a lot of people just don't like it then we should be really happy that PETA doesn't have more members or we'd all be vegetarians.
Is that why my dog is always trying to lick me?
I've got no problem with peeps eating dogs but nearly every place that eats them (i.e China) treats them like shit
Seriously if you look up the dog markets its not that they're eating them but rather how they treat them beforehand, its evil.
great, now do cows, pigs, sheep and chickens
I personally like dogs, so I wouldn't want to see them get hurt, but people have varying views on eating dogs and I wouldn't go as far as stopping people from eating them as long as they're being treated proper.
The problem is the only thing that I've heard about these places treat dogs like shit so I normally just tell people don't eat dogs because of this. However, "Pigs and cows are being slaughtered every day and they're being treated like shit as well, and you don't see people complaining" is one response that I've heard so I don't know.
Yeah, I wouldn't want to eat meat from a creature that died in unnecessary cruelty, I do make an effort to get my hands on free range where possible.
As much as I like most dogs I would probably like having a pet pig or goat had I the means to look after one, and I could eat a dog provided it was reared ethically and slaughtered humanely, but I'm not exactly in any hurry to do so.
Like when people get all feelsy about eating dog what they think is that their bestest buddy fido might end up on the table which would almost never happen in a western county, primarily because nobody wants to eat and adorable house pet and secondarily I imagine most breeds of pet dog are all sinewy and gristly and make for bad eating.
