i'm almost glad Lemmy didn't live to see this
Literally the opposite.
18 quid in Asda for 0.7??
It's "I wanna get muntered" fuel. Relatively inexpensive for bourbon in large quantities. I actually have a taste for it, because during my worst alcoholic phase I was knocking back a litre every four days or so. It's easier to neck bourbon (or bourbon-alikes, in JD's case) than it is scotch, at least for me, because it's a "lighter" and more "pure" whiskey, whereas scotch is heavier on my stomach because of its age. The gin phase was the worst though, because gin just feels like menthol water to me, so I would burn through a seventy of that in like, two days. Really though the true rocket piss is cider, because you can get two liters of 8% cider for £5 and that will utterly blast your arse. Especially if you drink it in pints. I love me some scrumpy, but I feel like it's too strong for me to go back to even if I started drinking again. People like to say they're manly men for necking whiskey, and they sneer at cider, but I would love to see anyone say that necking pint after pint of West Country rocket fuel is "girly". I was going off the basic pricing which is £27-£30 in two out of three retail jobs I've worked. My current workplace sells it for around £20-odd for 70cl, but where I work is notably discounted on all fronts compared to most major chains so I consider it to be varied.
They actually just implemented a minimum pricing law in Scotland to try and kill cheap cider. It pretty much specifically only effects cider. Most of the money goes to the NHS in Scotland afaik.
I wholeheartedly approve.
thank god i stick to crown cheaper and smoother to me
wow that's literally exactly how I would describe the same combo, nasty shit.
During my time in Eastern Europe while I was still in the Marines it was our drink of choice because often it was the only recognizable brand in places like Romania.
Drink it all the time, one of the nicest drinks out there. Bought 1L of Honey Jack Daniels and downed it in one night, it was great experience
Well it has more in common with hand sanitizer, but sure :v
Man I remember the first time I tried Jack, didn't know shit about it except it was basically Epic Meal Time meme juice. Worst shit I've ever drank and the smell of it even after all these years makes me gag instantly. Do yourself a favor and steer clear, price jump or no price jump.
Absolute garbage. Back then it was somewhat okayish, but then it lost everything due to either recipe changes or management cutting corners. Then again, most mass production whiskey is utter dogshit. Same goes for some craft whiskeys. Outside of making my own stuff when I can with a modified tea kettle, I tend to drink stuff like Catdaddy. I cannot fucking stand Crown Royal and Jack Daniels. Something about them feels wrong too the tongue once you start drinking good ol' stumpwater.
I can't stomach whiskey to even save my life, but if people are seriously paying like £25-£30 for a bottle of the stuff, do yourself (and the smaller distilleries) a favour and buy a quality bourbon, this will hit those smaller run distilleries a lot harder than a powerhouse like Jack Daniels. A friend recommends Woodford reserve, I just suggest trying a variety of lesser known brands.
Be happy you don't have to pay €46 a bottle like we do here.
I'm interested to see how this'll affect bar prices where I work. Most of our whiskey cocktails are specifically Jack Daniels brand specific (yay chain tie-ins!). I wonder if prices will go up or if we'll just drop em and move to something cheaper and less shit As long as this doesn't touch my fave whiskey, Buffalo Trace, I'm happy though.
Holy shit! Is that due to a tax based on health concerns? Norway's got a pretty left wing government, so I imagine they'd try something like that. Just to clarify - I'm not criticising Norway for its politics - I actually wish I could live in Norway or Sweden. I learnt about you guys and the bus thing you do today due to watching Skam. Fucking mental. :P
Fuck Jack Daniels. It's garbage tier whiskey. If you're willing to shell out an extra sheckle or two, buy Makers Mark 4, it's a 4 year aged single malt whiskey. Very tasty, not very expensive.
I fucking love JD. It's so smooth.
If drinking cigarette ashes mixed with paint thinner is smooth, you're either an alcoholic or got fucked taste buds.
holy shit, I didn't realize how much people outside the US had to pay for our shitty whiskey i'm sorry lads
You should try Bells, Grants or The Famous Grouse, popular brands in England. They're fucking disgusting. I suppose I'm not terribly well-versed on the subtleties of whiskey's flavour.
Its becuase you brits dont have Tennessee. If you want something smooth you could try what i said before with ole smokey salted caramel. I can easily drink half a bottle of that straight up over half the rushed/cheap wiskey out there, JD included. Alcohol in tennessee is like an art form.
Whiskey being described as "smooth" is such a meme in the circles of people that are really into the stuff. Quick google search: http://scotchnoob.com/2017/08/28/whisky-101-smooth/ I haven't tried the regular Jack Daniels but I have had a bottle of their Tennessee Honey which was actually pretty good. Very sweet honey booze. Most likely would not like regular JD since I'm not a fan of bourbons.
pretty sure the only reason people drink it is because the brand everyone around here has jack daniels T shirts and keychains and shit
Whiskey can be smooth if its trying to not be gut rot. My mom who rarely drinks booze due to how harsh anything other than whipped vodka can drink local wiskeys that are tame as hell and dont burn the shit out of your throat. The only reason whiskey gets a bad rep is due to majority of it being cheap as fuck paint thinner with no flavors added in.
Most cheap whiskey is young, fast-produced stuff. More aged, mature stuff takes on smokier, stronger flavours with less alcoholic punch. My go-to "comfort" whiskey is Johnnie Walker Black. Not the classiest of whiskies around but it was comfy and smoky and didn't choke me the fuck out when I drank it, unlike Jack. If you want good bourbons that are available in the UK, then Bulleit (my fave), Buffalo Trace, and Wild Turkey (my second-favourite) are very good, too. Jack Daniels' Single Barrel also tends to be fantastic bourbon, although it's hideously overpriced. When it's on sale at like £25-£30 it's well-priced, though.
This is what I don't really understand. These companies are going to make the same amount of money no matter what the tariff, the issue is WE have to pay more for it, instead. What is there to accomplish by doing this
Why people drink this, when for the same price you can get a 12 year old single malt, baffles me.
Because a lot of people are afraid of "wasting" single malts, because they can't get all the complexities of the flavour, and when you wanna get shitfaced does it really matter? I am a member of both camps, although I respect the craft of single malts, their complexity was just lost on my simpleton ass.
