Yes, including Facepunch. (which originally started as a semi-clone of Something Awful).
Facepunch didn't get it from nowhere.
I knew the two used similar board software, but I thought Facepunch just started as a Gmod forum.
Even FP is related, in a roundabout way.
Gamergate is dead now, it was an investigation into corruption in video games journalism and at worst an attack on the indie dev scene, which needed some WH40K tier heretic purging anyway with all the crowdfunding scams, shitty pixel platformers made by douchebags and early access garbage anyway. That aut-reichers and the "le rational reddit skeptic" crowd on youtube have used it as a platform does not make it aut-reich intrinsically, just like how Antifa isn't a cohesive group or movement, it is a tactic and just because edgy liberals use the aesthetics, colours and symbols to cry about a populist president and mean hicks saying mean things to different people doesn't make Antifa an intrinsically liberal "movement" when it wasn't a movement in the first place. Gamergate was not a gang.
How is Kiwifarms still around? Sounds like that sort of thing should be illegal. Whoever runs it has to be pretty devoid of humanity to let it stand.
Facepunch was had a very similar design to Something Awful. The original Facepunch was nearly identical, and what we call Oldpunch now was still very similar. The only real difference between Facepunch and Something Awful was that we don't have a registration fee.
Flamergate. I've actually struggled with suicidal thoughts, and obviously find this story really sad. Self-immolation is an extreme way to end one's life - I can't imagine how painful it is. I've only ever tried overdosing on opioids so I can just drift off to sleep and never wake up. The idea of burning myself alive sounds horrifying...
Over on another forum someone was saying that a lot of suicidal transgender people think about killing themselves this way because of hatred for their own body. I don't know how true it is but it's awful stuff.
Can confirm :c
They've gone down a couple times, really have no idea why none of them have been permanent. Also like I mentioned before, the head of the site is an alt right nutjob.
From what I've heard, the reason why the site has been down, was because the owner tried to expose a false trans help line, which had a return rate of something like 10-15%. so the owners of Translifeline went to visit him at his home and started harassing his family. So the owners felt it had gone too far since they went after his family and he took it down.
https://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2018/06/woman_who_set_self_on_fire_in.html Several days before, on Saturday, police had taken her into custody after responding to a report that she wanted to harm herself. She had a machete when officers arrived, but they defused the situation, according to Sgt. Chris Burley, Portland Police Bureau spokesman. The police report for Saturday's incident has not been released, but Burley said Sagal was taken by ambulance to Unity Center for Behavioral Health. What happened to Sagal at Unity has not been publicly disclosed. "Due to federal privacy protection regulations for patients, we are unable to confirm any information related to any patient at Unity Center," Unity spokeswoman Kristin Whitney said by email. Luxton, who spoke to Sagal on Monday over the phone, said Sagal "spent two days sitting in triage at the Unity Center; she was never properly hospitalized."
