I feel like you'd be panicking for the first few days, but after close to two weeks they've probably calmed down, especially now that we know were they are
Apparently Elon is sending engineers over to assist. Hope something is figured out, this is a really difficult situation.
https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/thai-cave-boys-stay-strong-ronaldo-football-stars-rally-rescue-10505318?cid=FBcna Infantino also extended an invitation to the team to attended the World Cup final in Moscow as FIFA's guest. Yeaaaa, provided they get out before the finals
And thats still a big if at this point, sadly. Even if they do get out before, I don't think they'll be in any state to travel. Also found this diagram about the cave, look at those cross sections. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1195/7f2c5c7e-2a1d-43ea-bdc1-e2796f032f96/_102380738_thai_cave_detailed_mapv2_976-nc.png
I would have imagined that drones suitable for this kind of thing would exist. How many divers are going to perish trying to supply the kids with food and maybe even oxygen to last for months. Scary to think about.
Jesus christ I never thought the dive would take that long. That is just nightmare fuel, 5-6 hours of crawling through zero visibility conditions? If something goes tits up 3 hours in, you'd be doomed. The absolute courage on these divers, they should seriously be recognized hardcore for this.
If something goes tits up 5 minutes in you're absolutely doomed.
Jesus, they must have been incredibly desperate to crawl through that choke point half-way through the tunnel. Shit like this has always scared the piss out of me when it comes to cave exploring, I can't imagine being trapped in such cramped conditions, with my only exit being miles of flooded, claustrophobic cave tunnels. I really hope they make it out okay, I bet they'll never want to see a cave again for the rest of their lives.
i dont get that diagram, pattaya beach is a couple of kilometers long, is that a comparison to the width? how deep are they? couldnt a capsule be used like with those Chilean dudes?
That's a good map. I'm not confident in Musks idea for pulling a bag with a rope through that. Too many turns and tight spots to get caught/beat up on. Good try. Back to the drawing board.
They would, but they'd have to be wire-guided since radio signals used for communications can't penetrate the rock. Given the tunnel layout I'd suspect the wires would snag after a few bends. Only special equipment using low frequencies (like the radar Musk was talking about) can really reach any considerable distance.
I don't get how they got trapped in the first place, I just keep seeing "the boys and their coach were exploring the nearby cave" ... but it takes 5 hours to get to them? How did they get that deep just for the helluvit?
Wanna see how hard this shit is? https://www.facebook.com/udorn.saengaroon/videos/10209741455852671/
The fact that they were found by divers in the first place is fucking remarkable
5 hours for professionals. Now imagine amateurs with minimal training and I can see why they are so reluctant to try.
Fuck. That.
This is my worst nightmare, seriously.
Yeah I've been trying to find this as well. I guess like the above poster said they got flooded and trapped there, but I don't get why nobody is talking about this rather obvious question lol.
I'm guessing they weren't that far in originally but the flooding kept pushing them back until the spot they got to? only thing I can think of for why they'd be so far in. terrain could also be a lot easier when it's dry idk/multiple entrances? Can't remember if I read about any of those things in the original articles, either way situation is fucked, each time I hear more about it it seems worse and worse. no idea what they're going to do but there's no way in hell those kids are diving out
5 hours is the sort of dive you need a rebreather for as well. Rebreathers are really difficult to use pieces of kit and even pros die using them all the time (the dead Thai naval diver for example).

Such a bizarre set of conditions for a rescue mission, how many scenarios can you think of where you have full access to the trapped victims yet no actual good way to save them.
This is not the cave. that's actually a cave dive in Wisconsin, done in 2012: https://youtu.be/WtlwoX1YEmg?t=4m2s
Oops. It was shared on my fb and was in thai, so I assumed it was that.

Count is now up to 4, with reports on 6 out.
This is so insane - can't believe they're actually making it work. Huge props to the rescue team, and the boys for keeping up this long. Here's hoping they all make it out.
so they're actually having them go out the full way? that's wild
Sound like they're making a hell of a lot of progress on this. Pretty amazing.
