Star Wars: Jar Jar Binks actor considered suicide after Ep. 1 backlash

I wasn't referring to the entirety of the fanbase (which would include myself, mind you). Just the --albeit, vocal --minority of toxic fandom that far exceeds critique and instead goes for the proverbial jugular. I think you're also lumping me with Jaguar's post which was more general about the fanbase.
I don't know... a lot of fanbases are extremely cringe but not exactly what I'd describe as 'toxic'. Harry Potter for example.
Nobody liked jar jar except kids, those kids are now adults physically. Maybe not mentally, but certainly physically.
If Jar Jar came out now, it would be an apocalypse of rage, because he's literally the Wandering Minstrel, and not in a good way.
George Lucas is an evil human being.
What's wrong with him? Making the prequels doesn't mean he's a bad person. Was THX 1138 any good?
From my point of view, the toxic fanboys are evil.
I never blamed the actor, for what he played he did his part well. It was just shit part from George Lucas.
do you need to do this in every thread
I really liked Jar Jar when the film first came out, but that was because I was like 5 years old at the time.
He's an incredibly obnoxious character I feel like the delayed backlash among some fans had less to do with it suddenly becoming cool to hate on star wars, and more to do with people trying to watch the movie again after growing up a little.
Yeah if I feel like it.
He was a bad character choice but come on its just a movie
Some people need to get a life
I'm surprised people still reiterate "X is the most toxic fanbase ever" when time and time again shows that if you have any number of people who care about ANYTHING, they will eventually start shitflinging the moment theres anything negative surrounding the thing they like.
Do you people have the memory of a goldfish or something because these are not special cases
Fandoms toxicity is a race to the bottom. We know this. Why do we need it to be pointed out when a specific fandom is said to be shit?
Jar Jar actually had a good episode in The Clone Wars near the end of the series. He was paired with Mace Windu and it was great.
The article specifically mentions film critics and a backlash, but no mention of more modern style vocal minority twitter harassment. This seems less like "harassed by individuals to near suicide" and more like "felt very bad about a public failure". The former has obviois malicious intent but the latter is just reality.
I personally like Jar Jar as a character. When you grow up being a weirdo you kinda learn to appreciate goofy characters like him. He was even a bit of a role model, he showed young me that you don't need super powers or fancy weapons to be a hero. Sometimes you just need to be yourself.
