I wouldn't call it as bad as other "mens rights" subreddits but it has a lot of the same people that will flock to the twitter conversation and add their side.
As I said, its circulating both extremist sides, thats how we get hardcore defenders of both side and a lot of trolls who just want to stir more shit.
I don't understand this argument.
Sure at face value Peter did nothing immensely wrong, but we have no idea what happened when Mike O'Brien met with him and Jessica.
"untag me"
"get out of my feed"
this shit makes me laugh and makes my head fucking hurt so much. I see this shit ALL THE TIME on twitter nowadays.
Why don't they just...make their profiles private? So that only friends and people they approve follow them? If you're going to get angry every time a user leaves a reply or comment on your PUBLIC post...maybe, I don't know, there was some way to prevent this?
Im not fully disagreeing but in his case it just seems a bit more bad because he has been so long with ANet and wasn't the main offender.
As you said though, ANet has the last word. If they didn't have good reasons, like concrete evidence to fire somebody, they probably would have not done it.
Which in the end makes the claims of ANet giving in to GG trolls even more silly.
"I'm going to be a dick online and put the name of the company I work for right next to it, there's surely no way this can backfire."
Because they still want to see people to praise and agree with them, they just specifically don't want people to be able to leave criticisms.
This is an interesting way to find out Guild Wars has a sequel. I wonder how I missed that.
Haha damn dude, GW 2 came out almost 6 years ago. Jump on it! It's a pretty great casual MMO.
So that they won't show up when you search for those names.
if you tweet TotalBiscuit 3 times in a row in the mirror, he will appear and add an FOV slider to your game
Why do these melodramatic people always go "Uhh get out of my feed!" That's not how twitter even fucking works.
You are neither listening nor believing and I'll be talking to garry about getting you blocked, asshat
She spoke with the Verge
Guild Wars studio fires two employees after Twitter clash with s..
Kotaku's on it now too. Three guesses which side their article takes? (Hint: it was written by Nathan Grayson)
Twitter is not your damn private space, the moment you get on the spot light and you dress the cloth, you're representing your company, twitter is more akin to a personal soapbox, all you're typing there is public unless filtered by privacy filters, and she damn well didn't use any of these when shitting on TB or other loved community figures.
Still, It's quite funny that people would claim that anyone's opinions are invalid if they're 'not in the trenches', since what eventually decides if your game makes it or not is public opinion, which mind you, these 'rando asshat' streamers and reviewers are quite good at shaping.
Is this like, the effect of constant paranoia, anxiety and bad previous experiences or are these people just psychos?
Because of course it was.
Man, I do love that the people are siding with her despite her blowing up at someone for disagreeing with her in just about the most respectful way possible. And apparently getting fired for it because she has a history of doing so.
Game "journalists" are still angry about GamerGate and latch onto anything to make themselves seem heroic.
So nothing has fucking changed since Driver 3's release and fallout. And that was 14 years ago and we've had a bunch of similar events since. How frustrating.
So are female game devs supposed to just be invincible or some shit? Why is it always like this? Why does it always go down like this? Why cant everyone just agree she was a shithead and move on, instead of turning it into some narrative about sexism.
Some people are incapable of accepting criticism as being anything other than a vindictive personal attack. They'll seize any opportunity to deflect the criticism.
This is not at all unique to feminism, women, or game developers, but that specific combination is very powerful right now so you see it a lot more.
In the long run this will just hurt women in the industry, since companies wouldn't want to enter this situation in the first hand where they have to choose between firing a woman and being met with people who jump the sexism bandwagon at first chance, or having a walking PR disaster still within their company. It will also result in companies checking their to-be employees social medias in even higher grade than now, with the smallest discrepancy being able to trip you up.
Congratulations white knights, nobody wins.
As someone in the industry something has changed; devs are at active odds with their fanbase, and now have to have literal sick days from mean posts because they've been actively coddled for years by an ecosytem dictated in absolution by marketing. Marketing now covers both sides of the divide; pandering and PoV is the name of the game for everybody, not just marketing and community managers anymore. As long as marketing dictates and controls game development, disingenuous directed pandering and shitty psychological manipulation will be the defacto order of business, and your choices are stick your head in the sand and act like it doesn't exist, or get actively covered in shit and get somebody butthurt at you for not following the party line.
Millennials are utterly unable to divorce creator and creation, so this won't be going away anytime soon.
That was the most depressing agree rating I've ever given.
morons* are utterly unable to divorce creator and creation, so this won't be going away anytime soon
I wasn't defending her, I was mostly trying to guess her viewpoint. But sorry again for not knowing everything in advance?
I watch Cameron's first two films every year, as they are a great movie directly ripped off from Harlan Ellison (with a lawsuit to prove it) and a great >80s movie< ripped off of Heinlein with a coat of vietnam thrown on top as directly quoted from his coproducer and ex-wife, but unlike you I don't give everything thereafter a pass, cause I like it and therefore it's immune from criticism.
Nothing is above criticism, critque or even outright ridicule/parody, which is why this thread exists.
Someday JP may figure that out, and some other much further day, so might you.
I'm actually a big fan of guild wars 2? I dunno man why do I need a reason.
Clearly I wasn't expecting people to give me shit for it.
The point that you -- and I think a lot of people -- are missing is that criticism is not inherently a bad thing.
In the same way that an argument does not have to be a fight, criticism does not have to be hate or disrespect.
