You shouldn't be afraid of something being criticized unless you think that criticism will somehow cause harm.
Is it okay that game developers are harassed? Obviously not. Harassment =/= criticism.
The end result of this, is no one can speak, no truth can be offered, and everything is hidden behind things that sound nice. Everyone needs to grow some thicker skin.
But that's not what you're calling for. You're saying no one should criticize people. You just wholly imagined an attack on you as a person, called it a "micro aggression", decided the critique was now an attack, and you moved on. That's dishonest, manipulative, and not well intentioned discussion what-so-ever. I absolutely agree people think clearest when calm, and relaxed, but you calling a refutation of your poor argument a "Micro-aggression" is proof there is no intention to have a "Curious" debate.
If I'm not confusing the people involved, he was pretty rude to the YouTuber after he apologised for causing offence. (The guy has way more chill than I do, mad props for that.) I disagree with the firings, because it (at least publicly) looked like the company could have mediated that without issue. (Her being glad about Totalbiscuit's death makes her an asshat, but at least to me it doesn't seem like a reason to fire her unless she brings it to work.)
I think what bugs me more is that all the guy did was just give an honest opinion, it wasn't meant to be offensive and insulting to her position, yet she acted like a total knob. Seems more to me that she's very self-conscious about her work and took it as a personal attack when it was never such a thing in the first place.
I haven't had a chance to read the whole thread but i hope Derior isn't taking it hard or is upset or anything, the guy did nothing wrong and getting hollered a by someone from the company you admire for nothing can be disheartening.
Unless something happened internally at Anet after the incident firing them seems extreme, but I guess we'll never know.
From what I've read, Price was also fired from Piazo for petty bullshit like this. So it's no surprise that she's fucked herself again.
From what I've been hearing she was fired from a previous job (specifically, writing dialogue for Kinectimals of all things, btw) for similar reasons. Combined with the aforementioned "celebrating Totalbiscuit's death" thing, I have a feeling she's been on thin ice at Arenanet for a while, and this was the last straw.
It still makes no sense that people keep saying the firings went too far. That behavior while representing your employer isn't going to fly. Especially not when you engage in that behavior with what is arguably an important asset of your employer. It'd be the same as going to an important distributor for a company's products and causing shit with them. You get fired for jeopardizing the company.
He did a short stream on it. About 30 mins long https://www.twitch.tv/videos/281487892
I know what ad hominem is, thanks. Ad hominem is the problem there, not criticism. The fuck Yes, harassment occurs over communication channels and as you increase communication channels you will increase all communication, including harassment. You sure? Because it definitely sounds like it's the harassment that's bad. Criticism has nothing to do with it. You're right, we've figured out a way to voice our disdain for another person's actions without resorting to murder. That seems like progress to me.
the idea that there are some people who are defending this woman despite her blatant history of being insanely toxic on her social media platforms is baffling
It's gotten to the point where if you accuse a woman of doing anything wrong, it's automatically sexism. Social media has no time for nuance.

Gamergate broke a lot of peoples minds.
On the plus side it seems like the amount of people defending her is dwarfed by those who see the firings as valid.
Not sure about the other employee that defended her should have been fired though
Nah the firing was justified
what did he do wrong? was he a utter bellend for 12 years and defending an employee once broke the camel's back?
He was defending the actions of a hostile and volatile employee it's not that complicated.
She was being a blatant piece of shit and the other employee decided that was A-Okay and clearly their employer doesnt want that stain on their name.
I feel like there's not a whole lotta nuance in this thread. Just sayin'
maybe put some of the tweets @ Inks and Deroir The only way you're gonna reach your stated goal of being leftudd is by being fair and balanced™
Same as what people said about Tudd... should just stop replying to Lambeth, it's obvious flame bait and trolling/threadshitting.
"What's the big deal, guys? All I said was that I read somewhere that vaccines cause autism. Gosh, sorry for not reading hundreds of peer-reviewed studies in advance of discussion!"
It's very frustrating to be compared to a notorious troll just because I hold an opinion that is contrary to what everyone else things, even if it's only slightly different. It's also very hurtful to compare me to a conspiracy theory about autism. You don't know me of course, because I'm just some random dude on the internet, but my older brother has autism. For the last two years, I have also worked at a summer camp that explicitly supports children and young adults on the autism spectrum. My parents used to be on the board of directors of the oldest autism advocacy organizations in america. My dad ran their website! I'm apparently just as bad as conspiracy theory that has harmed people that I know and love just because I didn't know of a youtuber and didn't immediately look up his name or his work before deciding to comment in this thread. I'm not convinced you really give a shit about toxicity if you're gonna treat me like that FunnyGamer.
You're being compared to these things because of your complete ignorance to the shit you decide to talk about.
Someone pointed out who Deroir is within minutes of me posting in this thread, which I acknowledged and apologized for not knowing the guy. I'm not sure what else you expect me to do. I guess I'll try to be more informed in the future Conversation is dead if I need to know things I didn't know I needed to know before entering the thread.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
