• Arenanet fires two after Twitter incident

She is the type of person that will out right refuse to learn or listen to anything that even slightly disagrees with her views, she is and always will act like a victim. The people that are defending her, appear to me, to only being doing so because she is female. That seems to be it, because of her gender, journalists and her followers want her to get a free pass because shes a woman. I am not saying all women are like this, or this is the norm. As an adult, there is a level of respect and professionalism you have to show when working in any job. Its almost an unwritten rule that any company requires you to be professional, they shouldn't need to sit you down and explicitly say "Please don't be a dickhead on social media, please don't berate or argue with our customers".
Reread my post - I said that I disagreed with her. The TotalBiscuit comment was dumb. However, I disagree with the idea that dead people shouldn't be criticized. Everything should be criticized.
Sorry, im late af to this, but it might be helpful anyone who is inspired by TB to improve their content. Yeah, going on twitter and bitching about him isn't going to help, but to never critize the content made by someone who is kinda stupid too.
I think this line in particular says it all, really - "this was objectively a customer engaging us respectfully and professionally, presenting a suggestion for our game." There is absolutely no way to honestly read his comment and derive any bad intention or negative connotation from what was actually said. What she did was come up with her own perceived slight that revolved around the person that had said it and got hostile from that, it wasn't because of his actual message or the tone of it or the context. It was basically just "He's a man. He's disagreeing with me, he must think he's better than me". It's absurd how anyone could think there's no problem with that and defend it.
Dunno what to tell ya if first sentence of my post I'm telling you I disagree with her and the last sentence of your post is suggesting I think there's something "defensible" about it. You can always feel free to reread my post, though.
She wasn't critiquing the dead, so bringing up how it's okay to do so, seems unrelated. She was just insulting the dead and attacking them. Different things, and mentioning it's okay to critique people just doesn't really seem to mesh with her just insulting the dead.
What she said basically amounts to "I'm glad they're dead", which isn't criticism so much as just being an asshole. That's not really worth arguing over. What people were talking about on page 2 was whether or not it's warranted to criticize the dead, in which people were responding by saying, "Why would you? What do you get out of it? Dead people are already dead!" I think that's a bad way to go about it.
From the article itself: >"He wanted to vent his anger, and he had the power to command a woman to stand there while he took his feelings out on her, so he did." What the fuck? Where in the fuck did this hot take come from? How does she not have the capacity to realise she's stringing almost every backward-force event heading her way as an issue of gender after making this statement? Does she read what she writes or even listen to what comes out of her mouth and realise how utterly ridiculous it sounds given the circumstances? I really can't remember the last time I've seen this calibre of delusion. Someone help me out.
I swear to god this shit better not be another Gamergate tier shit show, because its really starting to feel like that with the journo sites response. Because that would be incomprehensibly stupid and i dont think my brain could handle it.
I do not understand your obsession with defending this as soon as you make fun / say you hate a dead person over videogames you lose all respect and sympathy - double the fact that they are pulling every card in the book to try and get out of this when in reality, anybody who would have done this would be fired on the spot too. they are representing the company, and gave them a PR nightmare over some dumb comments.

Can we please not have GG resurface, ESPECIALLY connected to Star Wars and this shitfest?
i am noticing a trend where anything rian johnson involves himself in turns into a massive shitshow
That's less Rian Johnson's fault and more the fault of manbabies.
I would say it's more of a recurring theme regarding social media and events. There's been several events where a group (or groups) of people say "This is the event. We control the context." and the events transpired differently than imagined and said group or groups shout down anyone looking to correct them and give more context to the event. That's exactly what happened with wanting those in gaming journalism to have some shred of integrity; same thing with this event here, a streamer and a game designer have a public discussion where the designer comes off very heated and irrational, and now the even is publicly framed as "streamer gets game designer fired, and you feel sorry for them because she is a woman".
Yeah, I mean this is the fanbase that unironically put out a cut of TLJ that removed all the women, and has harassed multiple actors to the point of near suicide for the crime of reading the script they were given. If you aren't aware that many Star Wars uberfans are absolute shitheads, then you haven't been paying attention. I can totally believe that they could be at the center of the next GamerGate-esque shitshow.
Ive been just looking through some of the articles written about this and all i can do is laugh at how absurd it is that this shit is happening again, and how its just a bunch of extremely blatant lies and misdirection.
I hope ANet does the right thing and stick to their guns.
It never un-surfaced. Even if the people still championing it were to suddenly quit at some point in the past journos and shoddy creators just cannot stop trying to convince us it was a harassment campaign and blame it by name for their criticisms and consequences. Those comics of people tripping down the stairs and blaming gamergate have become more and more true as time goes on.
the eternal gamergate boogeyman lives forever and is responsible for everything wrong in the world, past present and future not even joking people blame gamergate for stuff that happened before it existed they also blame it for electing donald trump into office these people live in a fucking fantasy world
Don't you know, Totalbiscuit was single handedly responsible for electing Trump. ^ Genuinely something someone screamed at me in all seriousness.
It gets extra hilarious when you realize he got in a fight with his wife due to her voting libertarian instead of liberal in the election
That's... enraging.
TotalBiscuit's Legacy And The Collateral Damage of GamerGate To progressives and what constitutes as “mainstream internet,” Bain was the man who legitimized GamerGate, the 2014 harassment-campaign-turned-consumer-revolt that went on to inspire conservatives. Esports consultant and journalist Rob “slasher” Breslau, a close friend, disputed that characterization of Bain in a phone interview. Breslau is wrong (more on that later) His media literacy was higher than most... but in the end, it was not enough to keep Bain from becoming the perfect useful idiot in a troll agenda. Unfortunately for Bain, his star power, white male privilege and massive fan base of more than a million could never change the narrative to the issue he wanted to discuss. Clearly Bain didn’t do enough to atone for his perceived Gamergate sins and if there is a lesson in all of this, it’s that one must make peace and settle any internet beef you have with feminists while you’re still living. History is written by the victors, after all. i don't get this article, she says so much dumb shit but then goes on to be more reasonable while seemingly ignoring most of what she says at the beginning The reason Gamergate will always and forever be characterized as a sexist movement and not a genuine ethics in video game journalism crusade, despite long-standing shadiness in video game related media and Bain’s efforts, is precisely because the ethics issue flew under the radar for many years … until it involved a woman. Which brings us back to Gamergate, the summer of 2014. Besides the spreading of fake news even after acknowledging organized troll interference, Bain’s biggest "crimes" -- if they can even be called that -- involve being a critic, expressing odious, obnoxious and controversial opinions and tweeting jokes in bad taste including about the death of feminist media critic Anita Sarkeesian. (Anyone trying to frame that joke tweet as otherwise best have never tweeted a #KillAllMen or “male tears” joke… two liberal memes Gamergaters and trollish conservatives like to purposefully take out of context to demonize feminists.)
All those words and not once do I see "ethics in video game journalism".
Why are we still beating this GG horse. Fucking hell, nothing good came of it on any side.
People need something to be angry and complain about.
yeah let's rip on Totalbiscuit since he's dead and can't say anything back GOD this is PATHETIC and again with Schrodinger's Gamergate
The reason Gamergate will always and forever be characterized as a sexist movement and not a genuine ethics in video game journalism crusade, despite long-standing shadiness in video game related media and Bain’s efforts, is precisely because the ethics issue flew under the radar for many years … until it involved a woman. Um, bullshit? Of the top of my head, the Kain and Lynch review firing fiasco predated GG. And this is after GG, but pretty related to journalism ethics (even if not perfectly related): Billy Mitchell. That has to do with ethics revolving gaming news and high score boards, and it has nothing to do with women. Also I think there was a bit of upset over gaming news sites giving No Man's Sky good reviews and then saying "oops nvm" well after their damage was done, but I can't seem to find anything about that, so who knows. I did find, however, people reporting a debacle around NMS delaying review copies.
Vague relation, but fuck if this didn't make me crack up. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/112699/b08e07dd-1ffb-4716-920b-66afb2072e8a/firefox_2018-07-11_17-18-35.png
