Randy trying to throw shade at anyone over bad business practices is my favorite taste of hypocrisy.
I think what disgusts me the most about Jessica is her ability to use the sexism card in a conversation that had no intention of being brought up at all until she decided, for whatever reason, it was the best course of action.
People like her just hurt actually sexism, harassment, etc. and just give more ammo to the opposite side.
Also the way people just immediately took her side on twitter makes me so tired of these impulse reactions I'm seeing a lot on social media.

I swear if this becomes an #ArenaGate
ArenaGate is actually pretty catchy
I don't see how this has anything to do with ethics in game journalism?
i still think a lot of the coverage about gamergate was bullshit but the reality is that it was still just another mechanism for conservative propaganda. like i was there, i saw the unabashed worship for milo, you can't pretend that stuff wasn't a part of it. And take a look at kotakuinaction, the "unofficial" gamergate subreddit, these days it's literally a far right shitheap, they don't even bother disusing it anymore.
I guess you could say it does now that journalists are almost certainly organizing using mailing lists to push lies again?
Because as time moved on, so did a large part of us who supported it. As soon as Kotaku and co updates their ethics policy many people stopped giving a shit and moved on with their lives, leaving behind hardcore supporters and /pol/ rejects. They don't 'hide' anything because they never hid it in the first place.
Y'know what's the worst thing now?
Because of all this blowing up bigger and bigger, there's probably going to be a shake up at Arenanet by the company that owns them, NCSoft. Guild Wars 2 has been pretty damn good recently, and has been going from strength to strength. I can only imagine any shake up really fucking up the company and therefore the game as well.
The problem is that the more rags claimed GG was a "harrasment campaign" set on "driving feminists out of game dev", the more actual sexists and alt-righters joined and hijacked the movement.
Journos wanted to shift the discussion from bad journalistic practices to sexism in video game, and they ended up getting what they wanted. They actually ended up creating the boogeyman they wanted to distract us with.
Did Billy Mitchell not actually cheat his high scores or what?
I think he meant it more in the sense that 99% of his scores were either unvetted by the refs, had zero documentation, or that he was so 'in' with TwinGalaxies that they would give him a pass based on nothing more than his word.
Imagine if it were Wilhelmina Mitchell, the flocks that would swoop to defend her blindly today
Someone here explaining differently than the people in this thread so far.
It's long (like 100 tweets) but that's just how long it takes to explain something like this.

Because thats exactly what it is, dickhead.
"A content creator ("ArenaNet Partner"), Deroir, took the opportunity to
contradict her and say "It's actually not that hard, just do this." "
Sorry, I stopped reading right there. There is a very obvious bias in this "explanation".
This situation isnt some complex tesseract with sides within sides and ambiguous 'he said she said" bullshit, its all right there, she was and has been an asshole who attacks people at random for holding even the most mundane of opinions that she doesnt agree with up to and including celebrating the death of a man who just made youtube videos about video game insight.
She continued to act the way she did and got hit with the inevitable consequences of it, end of story. This shit is so blatantly disingenous.
Lmao beagle, go back to being bad at pubg and not doing any content that made you popular in the first place.
https://twitter.com/beaglerush/status/1017056797914304512
Less than a year of experience doing big stories, and a year or two writing for a shitty kinect game does not 10 years of dev experience make.

If that's "Flip the fuck out", I worry for the future of humanity.
This isn't gonna save your channel so why are you even bothering
https://twitter.com/beaglerush/status/1017058671837134850
Sure worked well for you so far.
beaglerush looking like a real big dummy right now. not only do you not need a 100+ twitter thread to explain the situation (you can do it in 1), he's trying to, again, spin it into a gender issue.
It really boggles my mind, I cannot wrap my head around this, it's unbelieveable that there are people out there, that were given a "professional" platform to voice their opinions to the masses, defending toxicity just because it's a Woman being the perpetrator.

Also she finally responded
Jessica Price on Twitter
It's not Beagle (who's thread I completely disagree with not even two tweets in) but I'd like to point out this reply that seems to agree with his viewpoints, because it's indicative of some poor reasoning I'm seeing from people on Price's side

I don't get the impression that she was soliciting advice but it wasn't a "private" tweet like so many people are portraying it as. She clearly is using a public platform of her own design to share her insights and experiences. It shouldn't be at all surprising that a community member, content creator, and Arenanet Partner would be following developers tweets for insights into how or why they design the game the way they do and, when given the opportunity, he voices his opinion.
Now, we have two questions to go with this. First, should laymen dictate to game developers on how to do their job? As far as I can tell not only are they allowed to with little pushback but they are outright encouraged. Large companies like Activision and EA specifically pull out all the stops to invite Youtubers and streamers to play their games then upload their criticisms for their millions of subscribers to watch and chew on. The same day that this was going on, a prominent Battlefield Youtuber uploaded a video of 7 things DICE has to fix before launch. The idea that laymen can't criticize game design is as absurd as the idea that a customer can't criticize the food at a restaurant because they aren't a professional chef. People then totally jump the shark by saying that the only reason she got this feedback was because she was a woman, as if game devs, who are mostly men remember, don't get roasted fairly and unfairly on the daily.
The second question is, how is this at all relevant? Lets assume for the sake of argument that I actually agree with this conclusion, that he was a mansplaining shitbag who shouldn't have deigned to give his two cents to this brave woman game developer. Her reaction was still wrong. In the same way as if I worked customer service and I told a customer who was being rude to go fuck himself, it may be wrong for them to act the way they are, but if I'm representing my employer and fellow employees I can't lower myself to their level. She could have simply not replied, or replied with a generic "Thanks for the insight" message even if she disagreed. Instead she told someone who represents the link between Arenanet and the community at large that their feedback is not only not welcomed, but will be responded with nothing but contempt. Video game developers, but especially developers in the MMO genre or games that have similar "live" content experiences can't afford that kind of breach in trust between themselves and the community. They made the right call in this case, for their company and their employees.
unless arenanet disavows harassment, they're endorsing it!!
hang on isn't this the same line of logic that people used to blame 9/11 on all muslims
Someone ought to tweet this at Beagle. This is literally the day before it happened.
https://clips.twitch.tv/CrypticMistyStingrayDxCat
every time i see someone tweet "JESSICA WAS RIGHT" i keep thinking about how my first genie wish would be a button that just crashed twitter and facebook for 3 days
how much of an absolutely deluded ass-ostritch do you have to be to think this? that Teasdale fuck was so insane i felt my eyes unfocus, christ
good on ANet for sticking by their guns
Reinforcing my point about him being a community member who would obviously be following these developers statements. I'm pretty confident the AMA she mentioned in the tweet is the one he is praising here and he simply checked Twitter and got notified and wanted to provide his feedback as someone who clearly respects her professionally.
Also shows why you shouldn't automatically assume that man disagreeing with a woman makes that man a sexist and a piece of shit.
Am I the only one these archive.is/fo/whatever links don't ever work for? According to my router there's no server at any of the urls associated with the site.
Yeah, the dude must have been really surprised by her shitty behavior. It had to hurt for him being treated like that by someone you respected.
I don't really agree with this post at all but hey thanks for actually taking the effort to type out a response to me rather than just rating me bad reading.
That is ultimately my biggest problem with it all, yeah. I love talking about this type of shit, the thoughts behind game/writing/narrative design etc. And I think really that's why it's annoyed me so much - I could easily see myself making the tweets Deroir did, purely out of interest and passion for the game/design. Instead... all this happens.
