because everything else just has their own service that processes credit cards directly. there's only a few places anymore that only have paypal attached to them.
Disputes are generally fine. You can get fucked over, but there's at least a resolution. The issue comes from when one of their 50000 safety measures gets tripped and then your account needs to go through 50 people to get it fixed.
