The Church didn't kill anyone; kings, lords, and governments did. They may have done so in the name of the faith, but that doesn't push the blame off of them and onto the Church. We should start by noting that Catholic charity work is extensive and widely considered a crucial part of the nation’s social safety net. By itself, Catholic Charities USA, has more than 2,500 local agencies that serve 10 million people annually, said Mary L. Gautier, a senior research associate at the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate, an institute at Georgetown University that studies the church. In 2010, Catholic Charities USA reported expenditures of between $4.2 billion and $4.4 billion, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, which publishes an annual list of the 400 biggest charities in the United States, ranked by the amount of donations they receive. This enabled it to rank near the top of the 400 list, behind two major social-services charities -- the United Way and the Salvation Army, neither of which is affiliated with the Catholic church. Does the Catholic church provide half of social services in the .. And that's just the United States.
It's sad that there are people that feel like you do
Those kings, lords and governments did, more often than not from holy orders. The Magdalene Laundries, Mother Teresa and arguably much of the spread of AIDS in Africa was absolutely the churches fault. And if you really want to go back, there was the whole Inquisition thing. As for the charities, the church isn't really responsible for them, good on them though.
I'm willing to be 90% of churches are operated by a couple people and only really open for occasional services for a handful of people, otherwise they're wedding venues and the occasional funeral. This is why this idea makes no sense, if anything there are too many churches. You can't walk for more than 10 minutes in this country without passing one and most of them don't do anything for the community because they have no resources or manpower.
Do tell how St Teresa has caused harm in this world The church didn't kill anyone in that. They remanded some to the state (king) for the state's decision, which included at times execution. Between 1500 and 1700, there were only 44,674 cases brought before the Inquisition in Spain. Only 826 were remanded to the state and executed. That's about 4 people, per year, due to the Catholic Church just remanding to the state, not executing themselves. Meanwhile in Protestant England, 750 people were hanged per year between 1530 and 1630 for heresy. Source: "The Inquisition in Early Modern Europe: Studies on Sources and Methods" by Jaime Contreras and Gustave Henningsen How are Church organized, church supported charities not church responsible? What?
I'm atheist myself but I grew up Methodist and I feel like religion is at least partially if not mostly a force for good. For every Southern Baptist and Prosperity Gospel yahoo there are plenty of decent, charitable, and pious people who take the message of love and acceptance to heart. It's not fair to judge collectives by their worst elements.

And that's just the United States. Fascism didn't kill people, governments did? Harsh and overused example, but it rings similar. The Catholic church had the control of morality, and misused it consistently throughout their time of influence. Being the head of a faith is as much a responsibility as being a parent, even more so.
She let people die in her "care" who had otherwise perfectly treatable illnesses and didn't supply effective enough painkillers because she believed the suffering were "closer to god". She took money even from dictators and other dodgy people and spent none of it to help anybody. Her influence made her the biggest peddler of anti-abortion and anti-contraception pretty much ever. From what I understand, the charities are affiliated, but rather independent from the Church at large. What I'm getting at is the Catholic institution itself doesn't really seem give a shit (especially in the third world) as opposed to the Anglican Church which to me has been largely charitable at its core.
Religion inherently requires believing in something for which there is no evidence. Its mere existence discourages questioning authority. When humans are able to naturally get over their superstitions and move past an ancient relic that's no longer necessary for society.
Surely the lack of churches and members of the faith is a result of supply and demand rather than some mystical withering of yae grateth faith?
Ah yes, when rational adults start abandoning your cult you should start brainwashing the children instead. Fuck religious schools. Seriously, fuck them. They have zero place in a supposedly secular society.
Orthodox christianity is where it's at
Unlikely, it hardly messes with people's day-to-day affairs so you'll be hard-pressed to get them to care when there are more practical issues to burn your energy on.
I wouldn't really consider CoE a state religion outside of ceremony. I'm pretty sure we have a separation of the two when it comes to policy making, either official or otherwise just functional.
And also the organization that kept going on about condoms being bad, which iirc didn't go so well for Africa Her hospitals had questionable medical practices staffed with staff that was inexperienced and she mainly used said hospitals to push propaganda. (Also something about babtizing dead and dying people with no regard to their religion)
