false on the grass is useless part. Try having a garden without grass and keeping your house dust free with this heat.
Grass keeps soils together, and prevents erosion and extreme soil dehydration that would cause plants like trees to just be uprooted from the slightest breeze.
Stick a spade in your yard, the soil will be dry but still clump together, but without the grass it could have just been a powdery mess by now, swept away by the wind.
I wonder if you could just sow actual wheat instead of grass though, and get the same effect. that would be amazing.
Noticing this in Sweden too. Was on my way home from the beach a few days ago when I noticed how all the grass around me was dying, brown and yellows. Not much green. Never seen anything like this, I think. We usually joke that while summer is technically June-August it's only sunny for a week in July and the rest is rain and clouds. It hasn't rained for weeks here in Stockholm. We have rampant forest-fires all over the country.
water company said we have a hosepipe imminent get ready for the coppers to take your hose pipes
Grass useless? Busted, Mr. Dustbowl
Grass is also a monoculture that if well kept, will continue to require more and more fertilizer and water as time goes on.
Its also boring and bland to look at.
If you aren't planting something useful, like fruits and vegetables in your yard, at least plant some kind of diversity such as bushes, shrubs, or flowers.
Yeah grass prevents soil erosion, but so do a lot of plants and having one type of plant eat up the same nutrients in the same soil year after year will just decay the soil anyway. It may not blow away in the wind, but it'll make plants struggle to grow after some time.
Crop rotation was invented for a reason, and it really ought to be applied to lawn care.
Lets get us somma them clovers up in here
Honestly that's the worst bit about lawn culture in my opinion, it's that it really just isn't very aesthetically pleasing to have flat green nothingness.
we've become the designated shitting island
Same here, at least in my western part of Germany (it's raining in the south)
In fact we've had less than 8mm of rain in the last 30 days and going by the newest forecasts we aren't getting any rain in the next 10 days, so that would be 40 days with close to no rainfall and who knows how long it lasts.
Also going to get temperatures around or even over 35°C in the next week and the danger of fires is already high.
Same here in Denmark. The images sure are interesting.
