• James Gunn booted from "Guardians of the Galaxy 3" after old tweets resurface

Remember this decision was probably made by some Disney exec in a boardroom who took one look at the tweet and made the call. They don't have to give a shit about context, for them its easier just to cut him and replace him.
This is why I never want to become famous. People change all the time. Stupid shit you said years ago doesn't define who you are now.
This is what the last 18 months or two years has been leading up to in many ways. I don't think people who tweet racist shit should have a job when they're poor representatives of a company, but the otherside of that coin is you're going to cost people you like their jobs when these tools are weaponized.
Disney definitely hired Gunn knowing all this shit about him, it'd be fucking absurd for them to have not come across the controversy last time this came up after all. The firing is a pre-emptive "save our asses" move before the genuine media shitstorm starts rather than the fringe right wing nutjob shitstorm.
Posobeic is a neo Nazi, he's a very unsavory and hypocritical fellow.
RIP a lot of interest in post-A4 MCU. He was meant to be head producer on the entire cosmic side including their next big C/B-list project, Eternals. I'm wondering if any other directors will step away. Taika was a similair comedy, indie hit taken to the summer blockbuster, so when people say they could see him replacing Gunn I kinda doubt it. Vol 3 was meant to be the end of Gunns trilogy so it'll be a shame if this ends up being the Guardians Spider-Man 3
There is a fundamental difference between getting fired for terrible shit you've said in the present, because you clearly actually still believe it (AKA: Roseanne Barr) and people getting fired for sterrible shit they said a decade ago that they've already apologized for and moved on. The fact that these two are being equated is exactly what the Alt-Right wants - if their allies can be fired for being shitheads in the present, then at least they can also bring down decent people who were assholes in the past. So now the progressives can't have anyone on their side who has any skeletons in the closet, leaving them divided and infighting amongst themselves - and and the right can continue on united by their hate.

I remember when he was grandstanding holier-than-thou about homecomings MJ, why do people like that always end up having creepy pasts about kids and sex?

https://twitter.com/patrickklepek/status/1020416793981210624 I hope Disney changes their mind if only because Mike Cernovich is a total scumbag.
Disney needs more guts to defend these directors when they’re actually good at their jobs Not like disney is weak and desperate either
Tbh whether or not it's just edgy humor, that is a weirdly large number of jokes about child rape in a public space and anyone who expects to have a public presence as a career should expect those to bit them in the ass.
guarantee there’d be little to no consequence to disney when telling complainers to get bent
Yay, its the being offended Olympics! Cernovich get offended by Gunn's critisim of Trump, digs up shitty edgy jokes by Gunn from years ago, and already apologized I might add, to get people on the left pissed at him too. Cernovich, which has bitched about "SJWs" before sure acts like how they describe "SJWs"
the idea that these tweets are sincere endorsements of pedophilia just fucking boggles my mind james gunn's most famous non marvel movie is about a guy going around braining child molesters with a wrench
That's the world people have asked for. I don't support it. People change. Even the Rosanne Barr thing is fucking nuts to me. Yes, she said clearly racist shit, while high and drunk on Ambien. Kevin James has cooked himself breakfast, thrown it away, and woke up the next morning to go "Who the fuck cooked breakfast" only to find out he did. Ambien literally takes you into a waking dream where you are not yourself any longer. Yes, she said racist shit, but what she said to get fired was TAME as FUCK compared to what she was tweeting, and still has up and viewable, about another black woman who she said, and I quote "has gorilla balls". Her racism was on FULL display before the ambien episode, and she got the job. Why? Because your views aren't important. It's the outrage about your views that is important. This isn't me being mad the left has made it possible to be fired for this shit, this is me stating the reality that as soon as the left used social media as a weapon, we were all fucked. Lots of people didn't want to listen, but hey, you yourself acknowledge this effects you. If we can't forgive someone famous and admit 8 years is enough time for them to change, why the fuck should we for you, or for me, or for anyone? All we've done is create an incredibly hostile, adversary culture that literally is adverse in every way imaginable to self examination and change. It's anti progress.
No one is going to boycott Guardians because of those tweets. ever. Disney simply has no spine, and they never have. Reminder that disney showed all three prime days of e3 in prime time slotting with very little editing aside from blanking the screen a couple times.
It only looks like a weirdly large number because you're seeing them all together, they were posted months apart over 3-4 years.
The right has been using propaganda and manufactured outrage to attack their political opponents for decades. This isn't new, and it wasn't "started" by the left. The idea that if people just didn't call out racism, or sexual harassment, or whatever else, then the right wouldn't try to smear the public image of the people they dislike is laughable. It's battered housewife logic.
I'm sure Posobeic and Thernovich will claim they are, but at the same time they also claimed to be boycotting MCU because it has black people, and because Stan Lee is Jewish. Also let's not forget that Mike Cernovich has, in court, defended actual child pornography.
I'm not saying don't call it out. I want people to call it out. There's a difference between calling out genuine racism, and what we've seen in the last 18 months in some situations. Should we refuse to acknowledge the issues where claims are fabricated, wildly exaggerated, misreported, or otherwise but the damage is done because it's too late in the public eye? The right would do it in either event, but this is just another tool given to them as well. People should be held accountable for what they say, but if you're going to treat tweeting as the summation of someones opinions and cause them harm based on that, we need to reconsider our approach.
i hate this kind of logic just because someone has the right to do something, doesn't mean they should i don't think anyone's debating whether or not they're allowed to fire him

I tweeted Marvel Studios that a GotG3 without Gunn is a GotG I have no interest in seeing. Not sure what else to do.
honestly, if Gunn had posted this shit recently, I could totally understand Disney wanting to cut ties with him. This sorta shit would be totally inappropriate for him right now. But that isn't what's happening. This is the equivalent of firing a broadway director because they made a bunch of nazi jokes 8 years ago while they were working on a run of The Producers. This is pure manufactured outrage by people on the right who are explicitly and transparently trying to undermine legitimate concerns by flooding social media with shit.
Yes, that is all this is. Built on the back of a movement many people support. The idea of removing people from jobs who say terrible things is a common theme, it's only an issue when it's people we like. I honestly don't think he should lose his job, but I don't see the ground to defend him, if we're also going to be okay with firing people over similar shit. The context isn't that different. He said provocative shit to get noticed. How many people are intentional provacteours, shit stirrers, that we aren't okay with, but we are okay with them losing their job if dirt can be found? I see some hypocrisy here, I just want to point it out.
It most likely is. Highly doubt he'd flaunt pedophilia like that on Twitter
both sides are guilty as shit, and should have been called on it years ago, not just when "thing you like" will now suck because of it.
Yeah, or the difference is 8 years, an apology, and a long history of expressing disgust towards pedophilia. Do you sincerely think you could make the argument that the guy who wrote and directed this https://youtu.be/zlrMLaJpu_E?t=406 is a card carrying NAMBLA member? That these aren't jokes, but rather him publicly bragging about how much he likes molesting children? Cause I don't think you can. I think you and I can both see that the narrative being pushed here is transparently insincere.
