James Gunn booted from "Guardians of the Galaxy 3" after old tweets resurface

I don't even think Rosanne should have been fired (much less the entire production staff get screwed over because of her decision) but this is really apples and oranges. I was expecting someone to make an attempt at comparing them to write off Facepunch generally as hypocritical but I hadn't expected it from someone who is generally reasonable. How disappointing.
I was wrong. They are different situations.
I see someone like Roseanne pretty poorly because she's kinda crazy. However, I don't think she should have lost her job. I do think she was being racist, but I don't think she was in control of her actions when she did what she did. I think she has a long term history of drug abuse and mental illness. Maybe I'm wrong on that. I don't know.
I definitely handled the argument poorly, and that's on me. I see the points that are raised here, but I don't see how these are completely unrelated. They're similar in a number of ways, not all ways.
Yes, Gunn lost his job because a shitstain dug up years old tweets and I do find that deeply wrong. I'm not defending it. Roseanne lost it because she tweeted while drunk and high on ambien. Those are different situations. I don't think Cernovich did this out of anything but spite, he's a petty as fuck person. But I don't think all the people who were mad at Roseanne didn't have some of that on display as well. I don't care if anyone forgives her, I don't like her as it is. I'm interested in the strangeness of the situation the culture has created in some regards, and the difference in standards I guess. Roseanne is a comedian, whether you like her or not she's says offensive shit for a living at many times.
I don't think calling what I'm doing "capitlazing" is at all fair either. I'm not sure what you think my intent is, I'm certainly not trying to mandate anyone mimic my opinion. Maybe I have to work on how I come across with that kind of stuff but I feel that when I read someone elses opinions in their post, they are stated as firmly and as "you must think this" as anything I'm saying.
Well I'm done I guess. I was wrong and I don't know how to reconcile some of my questions with some of the answers given and I guess that just makes me stupid. Sorry.
She thought Valerie was white
Regarding this point, to people like you and me it might make her comments more forgiveable, but to a company like Disney it might actually make things worse. Companies don't fire people who make offensive statements because they care about peoples feelings, they do it because they care about their bottom line. If Rosanne is abusing substances and losing her shit on Twitter it might be a bigger hassle to deal with than someone just tweeting out some poor jokes.
Shit like this makes Milo's downfall all the more Poetic.
I'm sure some basic Oppo-Res on any Alt-Right figure would turn up shit far worse than this like it did with Milo, but unfortunately most of the Alt-Right are in hard-to-fire positions answering to fellow Alt-Right.
I feel kinda like I felt during the Paula Dean scandal -- not really agreeing with the firing. What he said was awful but there's a reason that in law, there are statutes of limitation
I could actually really care less for James Gunn. I saw Guardians of The Galaxy 1, thought it was okay and I haven't seen the second. But Disney shouldn't validate the ravings of a crazy conspiracy theorist who believes everyone in hollywood are pedophiles or are perpetuating white genocide.
There was nothing wrong with the Donald Duck Nazi cartoon aside from the Asian stereotype which isn't pictured.
I don't think Disney is one bit ashamed of making an anti-Nazi cartoon that won awards and still holds up to this day (aside from the Asian stereotype I mentioned).
I don't know why this variation of the picture was made.
People too busy looking to get epic zingers to understand the context of anything. Which is pretty ironic considering what they're trying to get those zingers for.
She looks pretty white to me?
Looks like Dan Harmon is being targeted next due to a video of him having sex with a baby doll being shared around and he just deleted his Twitter because of it:
considering how they canned Sam Hyde's ass, I think Adult Swim are the last people who are going to cave into the demands of alt-right nutjobs
This is so stupid all around. A bunch of idiots made it a big deal and a bunch of absolute cowards caved.
I think people need to dig up some of the shit Cernovich has done...
"Cernovich was charged with rape in 2003, but he denied the allegations. The charge was reduced to misdemeanor battery, for which he performed community service."
That's the point. They don't care. They're exploiting the fact that people on the left do to force people to not take any accusations seriously.
It's like when project Veritas payed women to make false accusations against Roy Moore. Just with an added slice of the usual "hollywood is a satanic pedophile cult" thrown in for good measure.

This is the textbook definition of libel. James Gunn needs to sue every one of these fuckers into oblivion.
We wouldn't have gotten to this point if companies weren't so spineless and stopped treating all misinformed "outrage of the week" shit as if the outrage mattered or would last any longer than a week, tops.
Companies will ignore legitimate problems for years and years and years, but the second they get outrage than can be "fixed" by dropping a client, they will do it without hesitation. It's such a scumbag thing and every time they do it, they encourage this shit.
On one hand, sure, but on the other hand, that account has 65 followers. You can find stuff like that about almost literally anything or anyone famous if you're counting every individual person on Twitter. Hell, she gave that tweet FAR more publicity by screenshotting it than it ever would have had otherwise.
It's worth noting that this has happened before. Anyone remember Al Franken?
The accusations against him were sketchy at best, yet the Democrats urged him to resign.
To give a quick recap:
Leann Tweeden accused the senator of sexually assaulting her in a sketch they made more than 10 years ago.
Tweeden was a Fox News contributor, and the sketch in which she accused Al Franken of sexually assaulting her has always included the kiss.
So there is no way she could not have known that this kiss was coming. Furthermore, in the "groping" picture, she was wearing a ballistic vest. Not much to grope there.
That case, just like the case against James Gunn, was targeted political assassination by the right. And the democratic left keeps falling for it again and again.
Nothing slow about it.
It only takes a few retweets for the wrong person with a lot more than 65 followers to see it and start spouting unfounded BS that many thousands of people see.
The problem is that no-one is capable of skeptical thought or looking up the sources to anything these days. It's exactly why facebook politics is so incredibly influential.
America needs a SERIOUS push towards critical thinking skills and reading comprehension, but that hurts the Republican voter base so it's not gonna happen...
Just seem like edgy jokes to me.
See this is what happens when you weaponize morale outrage, it's leverage to destroy whoever you want. No matter what you do, you could offend someone in some way somehow eventually, at which point all someone who wants you takfir'd has to do is find it.
The dude did nothing wrong.
Jesus, like I was going to say "Come on! Those tweets can't be THAT bad! You're just overreacting! Witch hunt! WITCH HUNT!"
But they're fucking laced with so many pedophile references that it's actually quite sickening. Yeah, even if we take them as merely jokes, you can't make those kinds of jokes when you are writing family films!
but why
it isn't like they're in the films
he didn't. he made those jokes a good while before he ever got chosen to direct GOTG
"The hotel shower was the worst. Felt like a three year old peeing on my head"
This is why you have a highly-paid PR person go over your twitter and make sure old tweets joking about kiddie fiddling go in the can!
Those tweets are Troma-era Gunn. Perfectly "normal". Even then, he apologized way back in 2011 for the same thing, and he hasn't made those sort of jokes since.
Like a couple of people have already mentioned in this thread, this is just the logical conclusion of outrage culture.
was that in one of his family movies? i though that was just a tweet he made
