Oh jeez, the in game categories are even worse than I thought. Even if you minimise the main one, any time two or more friends are playing the same game, it makes a new category for them that then gets pushed to the top and needs to be manually minimised. Who was this designed for?

hi you might recognize me from the announcement i'm about to push into your steam client Dom's been out of the skinning game for a while, and i've been managing the group and monitoring the status of the skin update there's no way to really update it. there's the unofficial patches, but those are going to slowly be pushed out of relevance as valve migrates more to the new framework (whatever the fuck it actually is)

The whole client has turned into a lighter shade of grey and I hate it

i dont know about you guys, but i absolutely hate the minimalistic yet still uncompact as hell style the new ui has why does my chat box have no borders on the edges? why when i try to open more than 2 chats, instead of opening a new tab, it opens an entirely new window? why does the stretching the friends list force all my chats back into the shitty side bar thing that i purposefully got rid of? why do the chat tabs take up so much space? why are timestamps the current garbage they are right now where you have to mouse over for them to show up and you can't copy paste them? clicking your avatar at the top of your friends list doesn't take you to your profile anymore, a feature i used all the time why do nicknames show up every single time IN the chat with someone, taking up unnecessary space? and if you disable it, it ONLY shows the nickname? also a fucking bug from the old ui where mousing over someone's avatar where it expands and just gets stuck on the screen is STILL a thing it honestly feels like incomplete, rushed garbage i'm not complaining about shit because i hate change, this update is literal shit

What pissed me off about the chat interface when I first tried it in that preview build is that it completely fucks up copy and pasting the logs. Previously when you would copy and paste lines from chat, it would include the timestamp, and it would past it just fine. Now it omits the timestamp, and the spacing of the messages are all kinds of fucked up. This seemingly minor thing is what breaks this whole update for me, because I do a lot of copy and pasting logs, and now i can't anymore.

i have just the thing for you add -nofriendsui and -nochatui to launch parameters of steam you'll get the old fashioned chat back

I don't know which college you went to, but Dreamweaver produces incredibly ugly, inefficient code and there's no way you'd get a reasonable grade or even pass if you used Dreamweaver exclusively.

Or what's what Steam is going to look like soon. They're long overdue for a new UI.

Been using the new UI since I could. I like it, especially the chat linking now, however one the dumbest things I think they did was a recent steam update isn't the UI It's the fact that you now hide games from friends. I understand private only to friends type deal with steam cause bots sending messages and invites. But I do not and cannot comprehend WHY you want to have your games and what game you're playing hidden from everyone else.

Is there any way to add that directly to Steam, or will it only work with a Shortcut?

Everything is still the same for me except for the updated chat and I'm in the Steam beta wtf. another advantage of not using Windows 10?

Does the hide categorised friends option in the settings change friends getting grouped up depending on game? I don't have enough friends playing the same game to test it

You should be able to have a startup shortcut with those parameters.

You can pin them to the very top of the friends list. This new UI is great, i seitched when it came out on beta and am not looking back. I like when it shows categories when multiple friends are playing the same thing, i can quickly see what’s popular at the moment.

Where? I've looked everywhere through all the options available and there's nothing about pinning or moving categories.

You literally drag and drop them to the top - above even the friends list to that space at the top of the list.

So the single most unintuitive thing ever, that's explained nowhere and doesn't fulfil the same function at all because now you have to mouse over their picture to see what they're playing instead of just looking at it?

Eh I'm fine with the new changes but my issue is the performance its fucking awful it feels like everything is laggy when you scroll around.

It's an area that doesn't exist until you grab something that there's no indication can be grabbed and drag it on top, how is that not unintuitive? Not to mention you can only grab people like that, not any other elements in the friends list.

Idk man maybe its just cuz I have a habit of highlighting text as I read it so I’m always grabbing things 🤷🏻‍♀️
