Finally a good fucking update
Friends & Chat - Beta Client Only
Added 'Do Not Disturb' mode. When selected, the user will receive no notifications from friends or groups, incoming chat messages will not open new chat windows or play an incoming message sound.
Added 'Offline' as a selectable status. This will log the user's client out of Steam Friends and the user will appear as offline to their friends.
Added the option to not automatically log into Steam Friends at Steam Client startup.
Fix for inadvertently opening the friends list at client start even though it was previously closed when Steam was shutdown. Please report any further instances of this bug in Steam Client Beta Discussions.
Friends & Chat - All Users
EXIF data within JPG images is now stripped on upload.
Clicking your avatar at the top of the friends list now takes you to your profile.
Fixed not being able to close the friends list or chat windows when in a disconnected state.
Added /quote for formatting text as a block quote.
Friends will now have a special indicator when displayed in a group member list
More compact chat entry space and chat tabs when Compact View is selected. Fixed a bug where extra space was being added to chat lines when only one line was sent.
Embedded videos and images start a little smaller, you can still scale them up by dragging.
At least the good thing from pushing it out on everyone is that they're going to be getting ten times the feedback, and more motivation to make/push out frequent updates.
I had a tool tip pop out that you could do this several times before doing it once, be more attentive?
I wonder if they're going to do something about the fact that you can just send arbitrary files to anyone (10MB limit) if you rename them from .exe (or whatever) to .png
You know what would be great? If the "Add someone to this to make it a group chat" bubble wasn't floating over words all the time.
It'd also be nice if chat was less unstable. I get several disconnects per day now and frequently get Steam saying it failed to send a message. (Though in most cases it apparently sends even though it reports failing...) This wasn't an issue before this shitty update. Before this update Steam was one of the most stable connections to the point that even if my internet was having issues, Steam was basically the last thing to start having issues itself. Now it's one of the first.
if I had left a chat open before this update, I'd wake up to a million (lost connection to steam, you're offline) and shit
on the new chat I've seen some people complaining about messages failing to send even though they did, it's usually caused by really shit internet though it never happened to me, and internet can't be any shittier than mine
While it occasionally had its issues before this update before me, it's been consistently worse afterwards. Excluding Tuesdays when maintenance is happening I might get one or two disconnects per week unless my internet was acting up. Since the update I've only had one day where it was my internet yet I still commonly disconnect several times per day almost every single day, not to mention the failed message crap which is clearly an issue since so many people seem to get that one.
