• Santa Barbara approves jail time for straw ban violators

What's with all the plastic straw news lately? It's practically conspiracy levels of news on plastic straw bans. Like a parody. "They're asking too many questions... give them some bullshit to distract them... talk about plastic straw bands or someshit"
Public defenders can only do their best though... they don't get to determine that prosecutors drop a case.

It's fucking absurd that they are more keen on enforcing jail time for handing out fucking straws then on companies pumping toxic chemicals into our water and air.
Shitty thing to say, but it's called the american dream for a reason. Everyone dreams for it, but damn is barely anyone actually getting there.
If you live in those states, your tax money goes to the wealthy private prison owners and their lobbyists as they're paid by the state for how many prisoners they have. For maximum profitability keep the war on drugs going, get as many people in jail with the cheapest accommodations possible, and maximize recidivism rates. Keeping people working against their will in prisons was specifically allowed in the 13th Amendment as well, for even more money. On top of all that being a felon disenfranchises you in some states as well, so you literally can not try to change it with your vote if you're an ex-convict.
You can knowingly give someone AIDs but holy fucking shit if you give them a straw

Okay this is epic.
because its a thing that people are jumping on-board with, riding the wave of popular sentiment. im glad businesses are moving away from plastic straws, it's a step that needs to be taken.
Agreed. Both should be punished.

Its not just California who is doing this. It’s not just companies that are phasing out the use of plastic straws. Cities and states are taking action to reduce their negative impact on the environment as well; Seattle became the first big U.S. city to ban the use of plastic straws, beginning July 1 this year. California is exploring the possibility of banning plastic straws using Assembly Bill 1884, which would prohibit food facilities from “providing single-use plastic straws…to consumers unless requested by the consumer.” If passed, the bill would be backed up by small fines to the offending facilities. Cities in the state have also started banning straws, with places like Malibu, Oakland and Berkley already instating straw rules. Hawaii is also contemplating passing a bill to ban plastic straws, and two hotels there have already stopped using them in favor of paper straws. On the East Coast, New Jersey’s Monmouth Beach approved banning both plastic straws and bags, while in New York City a bill to ban plastic straws was introduced in May. In Florida, Miami Beach, Fort Myers Beach and St. Petersburg have all banned plastic straws. Here are other U.S. companies, that have pledged to phase out the use of plastic straws: Starbucks Disney Hyatt American Airlines Alaska Airlines Bon Appétit SeaWorld Entertainment Royal Caribbean Marriott International Anyways, heres a really fucked video for why things like banning plastic straws happens https://youtu.be/4wH878t78bw
Unfortunately, one decent joke from Shapiro wont actually stop the man from being a piece of shit.
I think he is a pretty decent guy. Certainly willing to correct past mistakes. What do you have against him?
A transphobe. Climate Change Denier. Homophobe. And a bunch more from my sack of "Examples of why Ben Shapiro is a Cunt"
Wow there is so much wrong or at least misrepresented here it is frankly amazing. First off, Ben Shaprio just recently supported Nikki Haley's statements against "owning the libs". So you are at least not presenting the full picture here. Also Ben Shapiro is pretty much the opposite on nordic countries. He actually calls them mixed economies quite frequently. "So, is Norway actually a socialist country? Not quite. It’s far more socialistic than the United States" "First off, it’s worth noting that Bruenig mentioned no country in her original article. She talked about the concept of socialism in rather classical Marxist terms — terms which better describe Cuba and Venezuela than mixed economies like Denmark and Sweden, as I pointed out." I mean these are pretty fair statements I think. And then you just ad-hominem in the end. Which is fine, but I don't think I need to refute much of that.
Well I respect the post, and can understand why people might find his look and voice annoying. He doesn't have amazing aesthetics in voice. But I do think his views have changed a lot since you seen him. He even criticizes Ayn Rand. I don't think he has a disdain for Nordic economics per-say. I actually think he just doesn't like that people give simple labels to them, or don't understand they benefit from immensely capitalistic or business friendly policies. In Norway's case, he will always mention its huge benefit is gets from domestic oil production. I do recommend you read this link at least. It is a pretty big list where he goes over his earlier opinions and why they were wrong or not. https://www.dailywire.com/news/33362/so-heres-giant-list-all-dumb-stuff-ive-ever-done-ben-shapiro
sure, that sucks, but on a daily basis companies are destroying natural habitats with pollutants and toxins much worse than plastic straws, on top of exacerbating global warming and actively harming the populace (flint water crisis comes to mind) still waiting on us to do something about that
God how does the straw even get that deep in there. It's like someone took the turtle and rammed it into its nose.

Kind of amazing in twenty years we went from "earn 140% of what your parents did" to "good luck not dying in debt".
Im not saying one issue is more important that the other because obviously flints crisis is one out of many humanitarian and environmental issue that needs to be fixed immediately, but I was just stating WHY this straw ban is happening. Its not like its an overnight thing either. Its been going on for a long time. I live by the beach and our beach has recently become more popular and Ive started to see a lot of plastic liter where I usually bike and it really annoys me how people dont give a shit about what they throw onto the floor. We actually have a law on our beach for littering.
I just think it's kind of interesting...
