Trans Activists are hijacking the Lobster Emoji till they add a Trans flag Emoji

unity is still possible while retaining individual identity. people want to represent themselves in their own way
thats another problem
englobe everything into a single kind of emojis, you don't need that many emojis
It's not used THAT much but iirc there is a symbol used for autism which is kind of a variation of the infinity symbol
I don't really get that argument. The Twitter and Discord emoji pickers have search fields and on a phone you can type the emoji word and it'll show up as autocorrect option.
There are already too many to usefully choose them via scrolling through the list. A more categorised approach may help, but that would easily support many more than we're likely to get in the next few decades.
There's not even a pressing technical reason for it. They'll probably make it a ZWJ-sequence of 🏳️⚧, so it won't take up codepoints.
give me my fucking trans flag emoji. That said, this is stupid
I'm kinda baffled they wouldn't just make the flag even when there's evidence showing its highly requested. I don't think I've ever met someone frustrated there was no lobster emoticon. People saying "oh then we have to represent all populations heuhruher" can apply this to fish. Why not gobin sharks and hammerheads? Why not include some esoteric sealife? Gotta do them all right? I just made my own and called it a day.
Next up: rainbow lobster.
imagine 🏳️🌈 being the american flag and the trans/lesbian/gay/etc. flags being state flags
the rainbow flag represents the whole group, while the smaller flags represent subsections.
The consortium aren't being paid manage unicode. They're a group of people that are paying money to be included in the consortium. This gives them a seat to be able to discuss manners internally (instead over RFC).
Most notable people in the consortium are from big name companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Samsung etc. The founder (Mark Davis) is a 65 year old guy who works full time with text processing at Google. It exists purely to make a standard of all texts in the world.
Managing unicode isn't their job, it's a round table of company developers who debate/agree on standards to use by everyone, with zero return
Reminds me that the pride flag is a zero width joiner set of 🏳️ and 🌈
Like how the pirate flag is 🏴 and ☠️ combined.
This really isn't going to be an open and shut case even if they do immediately decide to agree to add it. Unless someone already has a good idea what emoji to use a flag modifier from.
Like a good reason why the pride flag exists is because they did not have to add any addition emoji to the character block, irls reusing three characters that already exist (rainbow, ZWJ, flag). It's just a part of the unicode standard that these should display a the flag.
companies are free to add their own ZWJ glyphs by using emoji that already exist (Microsoft do this), but as soon as you start adding your own custom glyphs to the encoding, you break the standard and it makes no sense whatsoever. Which could prove a challenge if there isn't anything yet that could be used to create a flag in either methods.
they could totally use the gender symbols, as long as that doesn't step on the toes of nonbinary peeps
🏳️⚧
I didn't know this was already in unicode, seems perfect to me
yeah the trans unicode is probably one of the few unicodes that doesnt have a emoji/graphic version in most os
Can we have a flag for all other mental illnesses too?
being transgender is not a mental illness
2 things:
1: Being an absolute idiot isn't a mental illness either.
2: No you can't get a flag for it

4.1.0 released in March 2005.
But it makes sense to use since we already are using similar characters to change the gender of people
Some sites don't support it since they replace emoji with images, but they should work here 💁♂️💁♀️

So I stumbled upon the main article from the man who's been managing be the proposal.
It makes quite a lot of sense.
If anything that's important, is that trend data matters a lot. If you want it, get loud.
Not real unicode, but their handler is well educated, and these could legitimate roadblocks that apply to any flag proposal

Makes sense to me, every country doesn't have a flag in the encoding, we build their ISO code with regional indicators. Using 26 characters to make every flag.
At least it looks like it would make it in eventually
Woah there man - don't cut yourself on all that edge now, you hear?
how embarassing
If emojis are the equivalent of an adult reading a picture book, your posts are the equivalent of a child pissing and shitting on a piece of paper.
And then a step below them we have people who make posts like yours.
Well, they are the only ones you are allowed to use any more.
Wow, epic post my man. You completely failed to understand anything and we're all very impressed by this!
All these brightly colored flags make me want to eat MnMs. Or maybe that's just because I'm just hungry.
Sounds like you can't take responsibility for the things you say
no political angle? You don't have to hide it
You're a never nude, it's ok, there are dozens of us
Every sexuality in the LGBT community has a flag for their specific sexuality. Interestingly, the trans flag was made by an US navy vet in 1999 and it just took off from there with the original flag in the Smithsonian for their LGBT section.
Think of it like the US flag represents the 50 states, while your state flag represents your specific state.
congrats man u really owned the libs by adding e to the end of every sentence
