I don't have an apple hate boner, but for the majority of people the consensus is that they're overpriced, non-consumer friendly, and overall are more of a status thing. I say they're overpriced because you can get similar hardware for significantly less with non-apple branded products that are similar. The only thing I will say is their Tablets are pretty decently priced for a really reliable tablet. They're non-consumer friendly because they lock down their products both software, hardware, and with peripherals. You cannot upgrade, fix, or replace parts on your own. It is pretty well documented by people who repair computers that they're awful to work for and their design is blatantly made to combat 3rd party repairs. Their eco-system is locked down pretty tight and you often have to stick to buying apple made products to get any reliability out of them. Do we even need to get into the production side of things? They use a factory which has been widely known for abusing its employees, some employees have killed themselves, and various other violations. Their employees make jack shit for wages on top of that. Hell, even at apple Jobs was known to be a huge dickhead. Lets not forget how apple dodges paying taxes as well, using loopholes to get out of paying state-taxes, federal tax, etc. Utilizing tax credits injunction with its dodging methods. I fully understand companies ultimate goal is to make money, but apple is a shining example (And don't get me wrong there are plenty of other companies too) of how companies exploit other countries resources, workforce, and participate in unethical workplace practices. Then made a astronomical amount of money and value off of these shady fucking practices. Apple is exactly what is wrong with this fucking country. Companies and corporations have more rights then the fucking individual citizen and get away with it all while keeping their wallets fat. It is pretty repulsive and disgusting, their entire game is skirting the law for maximum profit.
Development on MacOS is way less painful than Windows idk what you're complaining about lol UNIX-based systems are King for most areas of development
If it wasn't apple making MacOS then sure
I bet half of this is because of its success in the US. Seriously man I went to New Jersey on holiday last year and all I saw were iPhones, only one person had an Android phone.
i bet half of their revenue are unpaid taxes
I used to feel that way but really I see basically no difference if I'm using C# or Java.
It's funny how people here attack the company but not the retarded consumers that actually buy their products.
Yes, for sure, people who like a different working environments than you are "retarded".
If you look OS X good for you, it's a good OS that I loved using when I used to have my macbook but I would have never bought a macbook if it wasn't required for my program.
There are plenty of software languages this isn't the case tbh.
Good, then you could've just said that instead of labelling anyone who likes these products as "retarded".
Considering the money for quality, they are
Say, that's an awfully high horse you're sitting on. Mind hopping down from there so I can help you get your head out of your ass? Seems like it's making you think you have full objective authority over what is or isn't quality when it's really a subjective viewpoint, and not something you go around flinging holier-than-thou ad-hominems over like a child who just learnt some new big words.
That's a lot of words for "explain what you mean". Apple computers have shoddy build quality on an objective level. Glued on parts next to radiators, crappily designed keyboards, ultra thin laptops that make it look like one piece when it's actually just glued on the seam. I could go on. And this isn't even mentioning there genius ideas about charging with the apple pen or mouse
Like most factory flaws these things you list haven't happened to a notable majority of units. It reminds me of the Note 7 explosions, where out of 2.5 million units sold some 50-ish units were defect. I'm not saying these flaws don't matter or that they don't happen - for sure they do, but to imply that it's the vast majority of users experiences is ridiculous. The "glued at the seam" thing is absolute news to me though, and I can't find any sources on that, so I'd love to hear more. As for the Apple Pen, you don't need to charge it via the iPad. It comes with a lightning female-to-female adapter so you can just hook it into a wall. Personally though, charging the more common way isn't a big deal, never has been. Plug it in while it's on a table for 10 minutes and you've got several hours of charge. Same with the mouse, plug it in when you go to sleep and you've got literally MONTHS of battery-life. It literally doesn't affect anything. Still, the crux of my point is that it's really just holy-shit levels of immature to shit on people for their preferred type of computing to the point of saying "yeah they're all retarded hurrhurr". Like, grow the fuck up.
This is probably true for their mid 2000s to mid 10s products, my mid 2012 Macbook Pro is still kicking, I can't seem to kill the thing. But I can't speak for newer apple products after the iPhone 6s battery issue I dropped apple products entirely.
Why ever use Java if you know C#?
Lots of legacy systems are still on Java. If you work with a lot of webapps you're bound to run into it sometime. Even then, though, I'd still rather be developing on Mac or Linux just for the better resource management.
...because there's something in the Java ecosystem you want to use? Up until very reccently C# just wasn't a option if you wanted to avoid being stuck as an MS focused dev, particularly in industry where a lot of companies are to this day unsure about using anything but the Holy Trinity of Windows, C# and IIS if they're considering C#. (plus this "java bad" meme isn't great any more, Java would be fine if oracle would fuck off) Honestly there's a few things that I do at work on my Macbook that would be a collosal pain in the ass on windows just due to how badly even the WSL terminal integrates with the OS, running Node projects and managing a number of node installations on something properly UNIX-like is trivial. Access to the standard UNIX tools like grep and all that shit without needing some jank third party solution is great too.
My 2017 MBP 13" has been dropped off tables several times (mostly due to the fucking magsafe being discontinued, THAT is something I can't get behind). Not a single dent in the damn thing. iPhone 8 suffered a glass-shatter, but I've learnt the iOS devices seem to be the exception, not the rule. What battery issue? If you mean the thing about underclocking CPU's to preserve battery, Apple has since made that optional. It's just a switch in the settings now.
I get paid to, but I never use it at home
many of their design flaws are put there intentionally because they were feeling 'brave'
