You can't hide behind the concept of an axiom to avoid criticism to your beliefs. Either you're making a religious argument in its arbitrary nature, or you have rational reasons you can discuss for your beliefs. I've at least attempted to explain mine, but you're deflecting.
Wow it's like you didn't even read my post
You are arguing that survival itself, the existence of future organisms, is more important than any other morality. You either have a reason for why you think it's a better outcome, or you're no better than being religious with it.
It doesn't allow for ANY amount of pain. Remember how I said that my requirements for voting for Hitler was that their fascist state would eventually be overthrown? The reason is that a couple centuries of fascism is nothing compared to the potential lifespan of the human race. The human race could live hundreds of thousands of years after those few centuries. When you look at the big picture, absolute human extinction has a bigger effect on the totality of those hundreds of thousands of years than a couple centuries of fascism.
You're placing value in allowing new humans to experience life later, at the cost of those who exist now. That's why I called your argument analogous to abortion arguments. It isn't a practical argument; you can't know that the civilization born from today's suffering will ever be overthrown as technology advances in the hands of authoritarian governments. You'd sacrifice every bit of "morality" today for the sake of a hypothetical future.
I'm late to reply, but thank you for the levelheadedness, not downplaying any of these global issues, it's still frustrating, but it's better that we don't go completely miserable.
