Fallout 76's beta and full game will not be released on Steam

It's just cumbersome to have both a launcher for Battle.net for black ops 4 and Bethesda's launcher for Fallout 76. Hell, it's part of the reason why I'm not a big Overwatch player.
Shucks. Well, I already got it preordered as a birthday present
Fallout is one of my favourite series, but it's like Bethesda is trying to make this game as unappealing as possible.
Hey you know that single player rpg series you like? it's now an open world PVP death match game...
Also it will have micro transactions... Oh!, and people who preorder the game will get an out and out head start over other players, because their progress in the Beta will carry over.
Oh yeah, and we want you to download another fucking launcher.
Fuck off Bethesda lmao
I'm quite okay with this.
While I did preorder it (got a temp visa card so I used it to preorder, normally wouldn't) I don't like how its only on Bethesda Net, I was hoping they were going to do a uplay approach and just make a login system at worse. This does worry me, while I'm fine with the idea of Fallout 76 being just Rust but with a Fallout skin, many aren't. Not putting it on steam too is not going to win them any favors either. I'm afraid that the game will die way too fast since of this, and also because of that, it probally wont pick up as much players if and when it goes on sale, since no one gives a fuck about sales on anything other than Steam and Humble Bundle, which is a sad truth.
Devil's advocate, but I actually like Uplay. Getting achievements has purpose since it unlocks stuff for the game, and you can use the points to get discounts on other games. Its a great system to me. Beth.net is shit though. The first time I booted it, It just didn't load graphics and was slow as hell.
This sucks for us but it does challenge Valves dominance alongside Black Ops 4
Think about it, these are the two most highly anticipated PC games of the year. The two of them combined will carve a chunk out of Steam's profit revenue. It's actually quite smart in that regard.
Just sucks that we're the ones who have to suffer for it
Yeah I can't believe Steam still hasn't updated its crappy store browser all these years – yeah they changed the setup a bit but still feels clunky to browse anything.
Stop trying to make Bethesda.net happen, it' not going to happen.
It sounded shit any way so nothing of value was lost imo
Out of curiosity I decided to start up the Beth.net launcher after nearly a year of not using it to see what has changed. Right when I started it up, it would try to download an update. Emphasis on try, the download would get stuck at random points, and oddly enough closing the download window over and over was the way to get it to continue up until I was able to get the update finished. Afterwards, when I actually got it up and running, there were still some noticeable issues right out of the gate, and I didn't even try to download a game or anything. First of all, there is no "remember password" option, only for usernames. I don't want to dig up my password over and over again. Next, many things such as buying games still redirects you to a webpage instead of being built into the client itself. And overall, the client still felt laggy and not very good to use.
So yeah, the Beth.net client is still dogshit. I personally don't care about Fallout 76, but jesus christ I hope RAGE 2 and DOOM Eternal aren't exclusive to this goddamn thing.
This is not a competitor to Steam, and it does nothing to impact Steam's effective monopoly. A competitor to Steam should function as an alternative to Steam, as in, you could replace your use of Steam with a competitor. Two burger places compete because they offer the same or similar service. A burger place and a sushi place don't. If Steam has A B and C games on it, Uplay has E F and G games on it, and Origin has X Y and Z games on it, then there's not an actual choice. I have to go to Steam if I want to play A B and C games. There's still no competitor because there's no overlap of the service beyond "video games".
Imagine if the Playstation was the only console people developed games for. No PC gaming, no alternatives. If you want to play the games you want, you have to use a Playstation. But then the Xbox comes out, and it's only Xbox exclusives. And then the Nintendo comes out, and it's only Nintendo exclusives. Does the Playstation have a competitor? If I wanted to play, say, Call of Duty, do I have a choice of what platform it's on? Or is it "Xbox is for Halo, Nintendo is for Zelda and Mario, Playstation for everything else"?
I've been trying to make a bethesda.net account and it won't let me login after creating the account.
It also won't send me any kind of confirmation email.
This launch is going to be a fucking disaster.
I change my mind. I’m going to get the game just so I can beat you to death with a rolling pin while dressed like a granny.
It's baffling. A multiplayer Fallout game sounds great, even one that has somewhat RUST-like PVP elements could have worked fine if it was something along the lines of a mix between the usual games in the series but with Conan: Exiles like multiplayer components....but instead, it's like they just took away a very important element the game world itself - the majority of the non-enemy NPCs that give the games life and a semblance of depth - because of an absolutely absurd 'lore' reason that doesn't actually make sense. That in combination with the strange, vague name, the lack of being able to play it singleplayer and now this decision really does make it seem like they're just going about this entirely wrong.
What was the "lore" reason?
I don't recall a exact reason there won't be friendly human npcs, but instead of raiders there will be "Scorched" partly feral ghouls akin to New Vegas's Marked Men. And it's only 25 years since the bombs.
You'll get all your quests from robots, holotapes, and the Overseer.
I mean I don't like the Bethesda launcher and don't want to have ten different ones, but at the same time, so what...? It's a launcher. I'm kind of confused by the visible anger. I'm not going to buy F076 anyways but this isn't even 1% of why I won't.
Who cares, it's a launcher.
Bethesda.net's launcher is the worst launcher I've used in years. It's got everything wrong with it:
It's slow
It doesn't save your password
It downloads updates without checking for permission/There's no way to prevent it from grabbing updates
It has terrible download speeds
It has no options for download limits
Sometimes if you delete a game it'll just start downloading it again of it's own accord
You can't buy games through the client, it just sends you the Bethesda.net website. The Bethesda website also redirects you to different retailers rather than selling games directly
It gives you no way to only show the games you own, it just lists every available Bethesda game on the side
I activated my Fallout 76 beta code on it and there's nothing to indicate it worked
It randomly stops and resumes downloads
It crashes when updating, I had to completely uninstall and reinstall it to get it to work a few months ago.
It's a launcher but Bethesda are trying to position it more like a hub for their games, but it has none of the features of goo clients like steam, Origin, or Gog Galaxy. Even uPlay is a significantly more feature rich launcher than Bethesda.net, and Ubisoft made that into a supplementary client rather than trying to make it a replacement.

I even made a dock in Fences for them lmao
You're wrong that GOG is Steam's sole competitor. Origin is definitely a competitor and isn't a "weird walled garden"
Origin has games from other developers, has a big portfolio of studios under EA's wing and is more lightweight than Steam. Would I buy other publisher games off it? No. Is it better than Uplay, Battle.net, Epic etc. Yeah, significantly.
I am now going to torrent the game and give my friend the same files purely so I can play with him. Don't feel like installing yet another launcher, already have steam and ubisoft's shit.
And what makes you think you'll be able to do anything without being authenticated by the master server? This isn't how MMO-like games work, buddy.
Where are you getting your info from?

From me using it, and apparently being more blind than I thought.
I updated my post.
You're not serious, are you? Big release? This is going to be a glorified Rust clone. A complete departure from the Fallout formula. A spin-off.
They're putting a lot of effort into the game, they managed to put the Quake netcode into the Creation Engine.
What makes me think it is that it uses quake netcode to some degree and the fact that we have private servers for most MMOs in existence. If games like world of Warcraft and RuneScape can have private servers, no doubt this game can.
I'm sure the game is going to be shit, but we honestly don't know what it will be like
A lot of normies are just going to buy it since they see the word Fallout and see its multiplayer. You forget how big Bethesda made Fallout and TES
I really don't understand the comparison with Rust.
But I've never played it or watched any game play so that might be why.
