• EA creates "moral compass" to prevent Battlefront II-like disasters

It think you misread. They just want to do more testing to make sure their shady business flies under the radar better.
Isn't this the same company who's CEO looks like a Deus Ex villain?
No, not at all. He's the bad guy from Mirror's Edge Catalyst. https://cdn.funpic.us/so_eas_ceo_looks_like_the_super_villain_from_mirrors_edge-27-24818.jpg
He looks like he hunts people for sport.
who can blame him it's fun for the whole family and provides a wholesome din... You know what? Nevermind.

its all about what they do when faced with liability or pain, its not enough to be a morally good company most of the time. Even ones that make a big deal about being stewards of morality have a problem with doing the right thing when it directly affects bottom line
Imagine a company so shitty and and evil that they have to create a fucking moral compass just to stop themselves from being so shitty and evil that it actually kneecaps their products. Most companies would look at something like P2W lootboxes and MTs in a full priced game and go "Hmm... This is super obviously really shitty and exploitative, we probably shouldn't do this", but apparently this is Forbidden knowledge at Electronic Arts. It's like a trainwreck that went through an orphanage and into a burning chemical plant.
Lmao, even after the BFII reddit post, they still can't seem to stop spewing bullshit out of their black holes. They pretend like they belong in this industry when all they do is exploit everything and everyone around them. I'll be a really happy man if people who play their trash finally show them the door.
They will, but you're an idiot if you think they'll turn over a new leaf. Battlefront 2 not only failed to meet sales quota by a wide margin but the negative publicity put Disney in a position where they are re-evaluating giving the Star Wars license to EA, not to mention that you got some proposed bills all over the world which would define lootboxes as gambling, possibly even getting them outright banned Instead, they're just going to be a bit more covert. Move onto some new theoretical ways to squeeze profit. Remember when people were angry about the way Dungeon Keeper Mobile had very overt microtransactions? So when Lootboxes start being a thing, EA (and also activision too alongside every other mobile game dev, lets be honest here) moved from pay-to-skip-wait-time microtransactions to just having you spin a roulette wheel? I'm confident they'll think of something that'll make loot boxes seem grand in comparision, just as loot boxes made general microtransactions seem reasonable. YOU CANNOT WIN
Context for Reddit post?
Oh ya, sorry. It's the one about 'a sense of pride and accomplishment'. Pretty hard to find any other PR comment out there that has as much BS as this one, and the downvotes really show.
"Has EA learned their lesson? asks the subtitle of the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betteridge's_law_of_headlines
Honestly, this is the most amazing news related to gaming I've ever seen. I'm not disappointed.
I'm pretty sure that most of EA's board meeting consist of rich narcissists jerking each other off.
This worked so well with Google's "don't be evil."
Ya'll vote with your wallets. Don't like a company treating you like a slobbering money spooger? Stop giving them money. Yes, it's hard giving up on your favorite and most played franchises. Yahtzee said it best in his E3 2018 review: https://youtu.be/rPULz0kakhU?t=301 I think that about sums up the direction big gaming is going. It ain't gonna change if it makes them money.
"live services" god. that line alone scares me because that means they treat games as something temporary, as something not owned by you. something that can be shut down any time, that you don't purchase with the intent of keeping. they can and will close anything down as soon as it stops making money for them. fuck
