Elon Musk Gives Tearful Interview about Overworking Himself and Ambien Use

I wouldn't trade salary with Elon because his salary is minimum wage. I would like however to have his compensation package that he only earns after the company hits certain milestones.
Or the treatment of his workers in any of the companies he's been in.
The problem with that is much of Tesla's growth is fuelled by Musk's personality. When he's not being a loon he's a pretty inspirational guy. His vision has gotten Tesla (and SpaceX) as far as they have.
I'm sure his overworked, poorly paid employees feel lots of sympathy
You are kind of missing the point here, it doesn't matter that he makes minimum wage, he still can easily live a comfortable life and it is clear that he won't be struggling to pay the basic esstianals that millions of others do.
And? Does that mean Elon or other rich people can't complain about being overworked? That's what this conversation is about. Elon's not a shithead for being upset about having to work 120 hours a week. The dude needs to be more selfish and delegate his roles and take a break or he's gonna hurt himself.
People are allowed to complain about being overworked. Money doesn't solve stress, depression, and sadness.
Not when you run a company that overworks people you can't
everyone deserves a birthday party m9. even if it feels like noone gives a fuck about you for the rest of the year, a birthday bash is the world's way of saying 'hey man, we care about you and what you do while you're here. keep it up'.
and to all these people saying he overworks his workers, i say fair enough, its obvious he is there every day himself and is overworked to hell himself. I hate the idea of supporting a billionaire when it comes to work disputes, but he and his workers are fighting for the future of the company in the face of other billionaires and their vested media interests who would love (financially) to see the company fail
He needs a vacation in a little place called Thailand.
I actually agree with SIRIUS on something here, lol.
The big difference between Elon over-working himself and his employees being over-worked and underpaid is that he can afford to easily find some form of mental care. They cannot.
At the end of the day people kind of need to accept that people with ludicrous amounts of money are still capable of being extremely unhappy.
Human pain is human pain. You can't pay that away.
His inability to delegate is a big old character flaw that he needs to work in but also I think he can afford a therapist.
Therapists don't just cure suffering and yeah, a whole lot of people have pain derived from their own flaws but that doesn't mean you can't empathize with them.
ye I was joking when I implied Roseanne was a great mind, she clearly aint.
I do wonder how many other people use it though, drug abuse seems p widespread
It's the first recreational drug experience I had apart from weed, before I swore off all drugs except weed due to how much I loved them. In the UK, things like diazepam (Valium), alprazolam (Xanax) and zolpidem (Ambien) are very, very rarely prescribed due to how our healthcare system is not predicated on profit. In America, on the other hand, drugs are way way over-prescribed, so I believe many use things like Ambien for recreational reasons, at least in the US.
I don’t have sympathy for Elon, but only because there are a few things which he could already be doing to help himself. For one, he needs to take a break from Twitter and stop trying to be a real life Tony Stark, as it backfires on him almost every single time. But regarding his work specifically, he really ought to take a step back micromanaging his companies, and trust his Boards to appoint the right people to do the job. Maybe he could stay Chairman of Tesla and all of his other companies, but quit as CEO of Tesla, although perhaps retain an advisory role with Tesla as eg a CTO.
I can comprehend his passion for his work, and there’s nothing wrong with passion. But at the current trajectory, he will be dragging all of his companies down along with his declining mental state if there aren’t drastic changes.
Therapists don't cure it, no, but they make it more manageable. A lot of people can only keep going just because they have that help.
I was quite amused by the manufacturer's reply to her blaming Ambien: "While all drugs have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication"
Yeah, I heard that on a British satirical politics program and it was really funny.
ah found the tweet

I hope he'll change his ways. Tesla and SpaceX are truly making great things for the world, I hope those don't go down with him.
TBH I think people underestimate how good therapy can be.
To be honest, it's very difficult to test for racism in a double-blind study, as they aren't lying when they say they don't see colour.
yeah here's the thing tho Elon being overworked is entirely 100% his own fault
He can easily attract and afford to hire the most brilliant minds on the planet to delegate tasks to, and being the CEO and Chairman he obviously has that power, but he doesn't because of his own stupid inflated ego.
Meanwhile his horribly overworked employees have no choice in the matter because they don't hold any authority over the working conditions.
Not only that, but Elon can easily go fly around the world and take whatever extravagant vacation or birthday party he damn well pleases the very next day to cool off. Can his employees do that? Obviously not. Hell, Elon could cash out tomorrow and live the rest of his life as a retired billionaire without a worry in the world. If his employees quit, they lose their homes and the ability to provide for their family unless they get a new job.
I have absolutely zero sympathy for Elon's sob story when A) it's entirely self inflicted, B) would be easily fixed if not for his bad leadership skills, and C) are actually incredibly low stakes since he can cash out any time he wants if his ego ever allowed it, and D) he inflicts the exact same shit on his employees who do not have the same luxuries he does.
Sure! Tesla, the company that everyone (especially the stockholders, and people shorting the stock) says is going broke very soon because it isn't turning a profit can throw all of the money it wants at whoever it wants. It's not like it recently let 1/3rd of the workforce go in order to keep the company solvent or anything!
And sure Elon can technically fly anywhere he wants in the world. However, if he wants his company to succeed he cannot.
You simply don't know what is going on there- and neither do I- but it is widely acknowledged that the company is in a fucking shambles and needs to deliver on its promises soon or its fucked. Hence why they're all working so hard. Would you prefer he give his employees time off now and have the company go under? Or would you prefer the employees get worked to hell but they'll at least have a job in a year? At this point those are the only real options facing Tesla and Tesla's workers.
While i do not support Elon's over-work ethic for his employees, his mad drive is what actually moves the industries forward and competition grow, even if his ideas may sound absurd, scientifically inaccurate or over exaggerated. People dig what future brings and Elon is doing best to bring it as soon as possible.( Also save us from complete annihilation by expanding )
It's also pretty rough to describe someone just by social media given information knowledge & few bits of each of over-worked employee. Look at Medical Industry for christ sake
What? Where do you fucking live?!
He's been overly pedantic and purposefully obtuse by pointing out that Elon's salary, i.e. what his companies pay him for being an employee, is minimum wage. However, it was extremely obvious that the person he was replying to meant Elon's overall wealth.
The answer to my question is even more baffling and frustrating than I expected. Thanks for explaining though.
