Finnish gender clinics will no longer treat non-binary patients

The same reason people generally don't pretend to be transgender when they aren't.
Forgive me if this is insensitive, but I believe this whole "there is only 2 genders" thing being as controversial as it is comes from the language used (Of course there is always bigots, but besides that). When people think gender, they think of the person's sex (I don't speak anything other than english, making this speculation pretty blind, if your language clearly separates the two terms please let me know because I find it interesting!). I think as time passes, the natural evolution of language will make the words less synonymous, or a new term will be coined altogether that represents gender regardless of sex or vice versa.
Why would someone need to prove it?
I think you need to be very careful not to over diagnose gender dysphoria when similar symptoms may stem from other issues, BDD, schizophrenia, etc.
It's a step in a good direction if done correctly.
That's the gist of it yes. Most people as well as governments have been built up on the sexual differences between people as the way of identifying them and for the majority a persons gender identity conforms with their sexual identity. The terms cismale and cisfemale mean someone whose gender matches the sex they were assigned at birth. It's only as society evolves that people are being more open about being transgender and by extension non-binary where they feel they are neither male or female.
It'll have hurdles in the future because society will need to change to be able to provide/help/support/prosecute/educate/etc for non-binary people fairly.
This is an absurd mindset, estrogen and testosterone balance is super important for people and carry many risks to the patients, and while it's generally overblown by a lot of people it's not nothing.
If a patient can be treated in another way it's far more important they receive the correct treatment rather than the treatment they personally believe is correct, it's the reason we don't allow patients to self diagnose themselves
This shouldn't be a problem, see, because Finland doesn't exist.
Seriously, though, I personally don't subscribe to most of these extra sexuality/gender stuff, but I'm all for providing them with the services they request. This is just stupid.
Safely in the sense that it won't be a dangerous dosage, you still have to sign a bunch of papers to say that they could be potentially dangerous, may cause mood swings, cause infertility, potential heart problems, bone problems and other such issues - That's just the medical issues too, the social stigma and anxieties (while a systemic issue) are extremely severe too.
Obviously I don't want people that suffer from serious gender dysphoria or GiD to be stopped from getting treatment, but at least in Australia the process to get estrogen is extremely easy in many states assuming you are over 18.
A man murders or assaults someone. Man claims to be non-binary. How do you prosecute someone who is non-binary? We have laws that carry different sentences for men and women.
If a person claims a charge against a non-binary person. How do you explain to the jury that the big man with a beard and many tattoos isn't a man, how do you convince them that he is equal to them and not a horrible monster?
What about access to government assistance? Finding jobs? Benefits and such?
People will ask for proof that you're non-binary and that's where it will need to be validated. ( is not the right word for it, but confirmed maybe?)
But not everyone knows what they want, that's why there is a diagnosis of gender dysphoria and why therapists are important. Treatment is supposed to help you confirm which identity you feel and lead you that way.
Yes it's fine for you to say "I'm a girl" "I'm a boy" or "I'm non-binary" but the government has a responsibility to make sure you actually are and not just mentally ill because the last thing any government wants to do is put the money in to treating you for something that you don't have/or are.
the same as usual
That's a pretty low blow. You're suggesting they can't possibly hold a rational opinion because they have/had a disability? You're turning people's need to vent into ammunition to discredit people because you can't actually argue against their points.
Also yeah -- saying we can't speak about trans issues because we're trans is... weird, to say the least. Especially when this thread has been so full of good old-fashioned misinformation that we're well-positioned to correct.
Something about the OP's article
The public trans clinics didn't announce that they're not treating nonbinary trans patients, people just noticed that you can't get treatment anymore if you say you're nonbinary
This follows a trend of public service budget cuts wherein they don't officially downscale or disable services, they just make them practically harder or impossible to recieve.
As another example the national healthcare appointment system was reformed to a more inefficient one. It's a battle royale of healthcare wherein you have to compete with other patients for appointments in form filling speed.
Changes like these may not be officially announced, so as in this case we were given absolutely no reason why nonbins are suddenly not getting help.
Why would anybody claim that they were nonbinary unless they were?
In the extremely rare case that they were doing it for attention, why would they be seeking out medication that severely alters their bodies?
anyone think this dude is just shitposting/trolling at this point? for someone asking ridiculously simple questions (how do i identify somebody that isnt a straight white human), you sure are bringing up a lot of pointless conundrums that aren't problems, no matter how you look at them
She said she's a woman, not a dude - but yeah I am not hot on her arguments here. No real substance, lots of whatabout.
i know dude sounds like a male assignment but i assure you that i use it universally on every person that i meet
Oh, sorry, that makes sense. My bad.
I once caught myself calling a pigeon "dude".
