It's nearly over: Season 12 to be the last for the Big Bang theory

they'll just go back to group readings of the bible
The problem with the Big Bang Theory isn't that it's shitty 'nerd' humour, though that is grating. The problem is that the show is very mean spirited. All the jokes are at the expense of someone.
"Look Raj can't talk to girls!"
"Look Penny doesn't understand what Leonard said!"
"Look Sheldon said/did something socially awkward and didn't notice!"
"Look random jock character is too stupid to breathe!"
It's a show that twists everything into a mean joke. Being smart is bad, being dumb is bad, being socially awkward is bad, being too sociable is bad.
My family have been watching this show since it came out so I've seen a lot of it. When it's not being incredibly mean to its own characters it's alright. The characters developed well over the course of the show and when it's not trying to be funny it can be entertaining. But the jokes are so mean and the nerd culture references are so surface level I just can't watch it, and I have to assume all the jokes about shit I don't know are equally vapid.
It was still running!?!?!?!?!?
My brother forced me to watch a few episodes of this when it was new and I just couldn't get into it. I don't really understand how it got so big and went on for 12 seasons.
It depends how its done. A lot of older shows like Friends, King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond it just kind of blends in. Big Bang Theory went overboard with its use to the point of it becoming a meme.

IT Crowd is fucking hilarious you take that back.
I immediately take it back
*laugh track*
Well sadly my dad becoming avoid fan around that show for last few years ago and I clearly don’t know why.
It's really not as bad as people make it out to be. The worst you can realistically say is that it's not funny, but people online talk about it like it was openly advocating genocide or something
Seinfeld and Frasier would like to have a word with you...
My mother loves this show and told me I reminded her about Sheldon.
End my life
I think the problem is that it's not targeting people like us who are actually nerds and understand the culture and whatnot, it's targeted at normal people who only know a little bit about the culture and thus can enjoy the subtleties that we already know about, whereas they don't. It also just doesn't have the type of intellectual witty and/or absurdist humor we're used to, whereas the general populace finds the light intellectual humor in it to be way funnier than the usual dumb comedy they're used to.
painful
*applause*
And M*A*S*H
i watched three seasons because my mum insisted on it and its genuinely pretty unwatchable in my opinion
In true spirit of the show, every comment in this thread has gotten a 'funny', no matter the actual content.

Don't forget Married With Children. Some of the best parts came from the audience.
This show had it's moments, but it's a good place to stop. This'll be in syndication for years, unless someone takes Ambien or something.
Zoboomafoo!
wtf didnt they literally create BBT to appease the masses of dumb people? they'll be running around on the streets smashing shit up now, esp. in America
"aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close"
that's rich from the mind behind this clusterfuck of a show finale

It makes a really interesting contrast when you watch something like Brooklyn 9-9 or Parks and Rec. Not only are they funnier shows, but they are the polar opposite in the sense that they love and celebrate their own characters and their humour comes from that.
I KNOW WHAT A MARIO NINTENDO 64 IS
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
For real, though, they'll just make a sequel series or something.
I kinda liked the theme song so like RIP that I guess, the rest can get fucked
Good riddance. I've seen a few episodes and it's fucking awful.
I only ever watched a few episodes early on and I never really understood the big deal. Is it too big in the US to ignore or what?
It’s a really bad show that’s really popular and people get mad because other people like things they don’t. If you don’t care about the show you’ll probably never have to be subjected to it.
