• Valve is still making Half-Life 3 jokes

It's what happens when you shit on a playerbase I guess.
Valve are in the peculiar position that they can afford bombs from time to time. This business focus is what made people criticize the likes of Acti and EA in the past. But with Valve it's always "they're smart". If they always followed this logic we would have never gotten a Portal for ex. Breath of the Wild came out, no? TLoU is getting a sequel. Cyberpunk 2077 is still coming. A new Red Dead is right around the corner. Uncharted 2 got 2 sequels, and so on. Hell, fucking Valve did follow up what is one of the best and most influential debut games of all time. Expectations didn't stop other devs from attempting to follow up on their previous success. This is a very coward way of looking at things and I hope Valve doesn't think like this. This is the best take. Still the HL portions of these quotes haven't been funny since at least 2012 and I wish the Dota team and the entirety of Valve would look outside their bubble and be more conscious of their other fandoms.
What do any of those games have in common with valve's position and half life? None of those games are over 15 years since their last franchise entry. Moreover, those are all done by GAME devs who earn their living by producing games. Valve stopped being just a video game developer when they struck gold with the steam platform. These are all really bizarre examples to use, almost as if you completely misread my post. Its not a matter of not being able to afford having anything less than stellar reception, and its certainly not a matter of having the resources to pursue the game. Its a matter of "whats the incentive?". Call it a coward way of thinking or whatever the fuck, but if you're asking rockstar to produce a game that is at least as good as their previous hits you will get a "no shit sherlock" because thats how they keep themselves employed. You tell valve they need to undertake a gargantuan product that is at least as good as one of the most successful video games of all time, oh and people have been waiting over 15 years for it, you will get an exaggerated yawn as they side-eye their quarterly earnings. Its hardly like I'm making a radical argument here; its not a mystery as to why you dont already have HL3 or even just HL2EP3 in your library, its because A) work:reward ratio is extremely unbalanced and B) no one at valve cares enough to undertake such a project. Your use of valve following up HL1 shows where you're getting it all twisted: that was BEFORE they hit gold with steam, and it was only 6 years later.
