• Sony: No Fortnite crossplay because "PS4 is the best experience for users"

It's still a business. It's a pretty obvious business strategy. The more equal all consoles are to each other, the less interest is in buying a certain one for specific games and experiences. But yeah, you all can be edgy and shit on Sony all day long but it's still a fucking business. If microsoft didn't own windows OS, you'd probably not see cross-play with PCs
Probably just going to implement it without Sony, then invite a fight in the courtroom.
The best experience for users is being able to play with EVERYONE
Which could work if consoles were like Android but that's why we have PCs. Making a console be able to play with anyone would make it useless.
gofundme for bribing Epic to stop updating PS4's fortnite
If Hirai was still CEO this probably wouldn't have happened. He was there during the birth and rise of the original Playstation all the way to the PS4 Yoshida's background is in finance and he doesn't know dick about gaming culture Expect a lot more disappointment to follow if he doesn't learn
Microsoft has been in apology mode since the generation begin. They sunk all their R and D into being the "all in one entertainment box" and trying to kill used gaming, and when they were caught with their pants down at that fateful E3, they were left with a technically inferior console and a dearth of exclusives. Nearly five years later, their first party output still doesn't hold a candle to either Sony or Nintendo, and so they've won over customers solely by being as generous as possible in virtually every other way. I guarantee you the tables will turn again, the moment Microsoft has the upper hand.
Despite the fact that I got my PS4 solely for singleplayer games, it just sucks to see Sony dropping the ball and letting down many other players.
It's Atari's time to shine, boys!
Phil Spencer made a great point during his interview with Giantbomb. Basically said he wants a kid who happens to own an Xbox to be able to play with his friend who happens to own a different system, and that they should be catering to that audience and brining people together. Sony is a bunch of arrogant cunts.
Reminds me of that ancient user group post about how the PC engine was going to kill Nintendo.

4ourselves
this statement is so stupid they would have been better off saying nothing

Arrogant Sony is back. Get ready for the PS5 to bomb, everybody.
“We like to cripple our playerbase because it makes us feel good and unique”
its really funny that they say that it provides the best user experience when it inherently is not true. it makes it the worst because you can play with your friends on other consoles on all the other platforms.
Even if it's a disappointment, i don't think crossplay is the issue here. The issue is that they make your account impossible to link on a Nintendo Switch if you dared to play even one time on a Ps4, which is bullshit. I'm not much of a Fortnite player, i play here and there with friends for fun, but considering i have both consoles, i'd like to have the option to switch on the fly instead of having to make TWO different accounts because of sony's bullshit.
It's not just with Switch either. Play on PS4 and it'll block your account on both Switch and Xbone. They're aware they can't exactly pull the same thing against PC, though, which is also why PC is the only thing PS4 allows crossplay with, to technically say they have it. They just want to completely smother the other two console brands out. This is why Sony should've never risen back to the lead this generation.
Can the fortnite devs not just develop the clientside protocol themselves? Is there something on the ps4 which prevents the dev from connecting to an arbitrary server and sending and receiving arbitrary data?
They already have the ability to, they've done it before. Sony just says they're not allowed to.
mr. john marketing pulls his collar nervously, sweating icicles as he wrenches a smile best described as half-assed, much like the words he would chatter out right after: "i-it's the best experience for users!"
"it's the best experience for users! (because it's the only one we give them)"
Head so far up your own ass you're an ouroboros
Games like fornite should just say no fortnite then, they've got the upperhand here.
I'd get excluding PC players but not really Xbone and switch players
They could just straight up kill connecting a PS4 to servers for a week and say "maintenance" while also shouting at Sony behind the scenes.
That and the near frequent account hijacking exploits they never disclose. My PSN account has a unique password, 2 Factor and never been reported on in any dumps and it still got hijacked a year ago behind my back and Sony didn't publicly acknowledge it at all. Hell, it was hard enough to prize their fingers off my money after the scumbag made purchases on my account for some F2P game I've never heard of before. Turns out they didn't sanitise the PSN Store URLs so anyone could just go to a checkout page and swap the account ID out for someone else's. They'd be charged, and you didn't need to log into their account.
I honestly want to dress up as a Fortnite character and protest this sort of behavior in front of Playstation's offices. I live close by to them, I can literally see the building from where I work.
