Game Developer Brianna Wu's Very Long Shot For Congress

I mean, it travels along a single axis, taking into account that how hard it is to throw something into the atmosphere without burning up It's terribly inefficent, at least from what i can understand.
Is it just me or her art work looks terrible
nah it's just you
I'm find it intriguing that for someone who blames the "patriarchy" for her every missteps, she would marry what others similar to her would say is a member of said "patriarchy"
Can someone remind me why everyone hates Wu again? I mean I used to think she was nuts but that's because I was a rabid gamergater with my head up my ass, and Wu was just another funny face to laugh at in the shitshow. But like, did she actually do anything wrong or really deserving of all the backlash or is it just because everyone just thinks she looks gross and is mildly annoying?
More trans representation (and not to mention more female representation) in US congress would undoubtedly be a good thing, we need more voices to speak up for the silent minorities that continue to get neglected and mistreated by an unfair system, and she seems to be fighting for privacy-related policies that a lot of us I think would agree with in this day and age, so like aside from Wu being kind of weird and annoying I don't see where all the vitriol is coming from. I dunno call me an SJW but from reading (and seeing the campaign ad) it seems like she's making an incredibly sincere effort here, it seems like it's coming from a place of good faith even if she's fucking weird as a person.
Like what did she lie about exactly? I was at ground zero during GamerGate, I posted one of the first articles about the 'Five Guys' scandal with Zoe Quinn on N4G the morning the story started breaking and was part of the feverish mob that started the fire, but the specifics are fuzzy to me and I can't help but think all the unrest about Wu was extremely petty. I think in the face of the potential good she can do it seems petty to mock her like she's a deformed circus clown barking at the wind.
I think the biggest problem I have with her is her lust for attention, and seeing as she fails socially to gain said attention positively, feeds off of negative attention instead - which is just going to encourage people to berate her more. I can't take someone seriously when they've become a living meme and genuinely enjoy the fact that they've been harassed, to the point she made posts trying to pretend to be other people harassing her. Her entire attitude has psychosis written all over it, and combined with her extremist views, makes her someone really easy to dislike. I mean, c'mon man, this was right at the beginning of the article:
She’s practically electric while telling me and her husband about a group of construction workers she’d run past. She had thought they were catcalling her, only to realize after she took her earbuds out that they were in fact shouting about how they planned to vote for her in Tuesday’s primary.
As others have already stated, she thrives on negative attention. Some guys at a constructions site were (supposedly) shouting at her, and she made the assumption they were catcalling her? And all of a sudden, lo and behold, they were actually shouting about how they planned to vote for her? If you really don't see through her thinly veiled facade, then I don't know what else to say.
The main thing that comes to mind for me is that she deliberately threw herself in the middle of the shitshow by antagonising one side, and when that side inevitably shot back she played the victim while begging people to support her on Patreon. I don't support the direct harassment against her, but between that and the famous screencap (apparently there were multiple but I've only seen that one shot) of her forgetting to log out of her main account while starting a hate thread against herself, it's pretty clear-cut to me that she saw the controversy as an opportunity to make some pity money and promote her game.
I'm 100% in support of trans representation in congress, and when I look at her policies on their own they do seem reasonable. But knowing her history makes it difficult to trust her.
But once again this seems really petty in the face of someone who could be one of the very, very few people in congress who are fighting for the side of internet privacy, corporate accountability for the user data they handle, and yet another in a slowly-growing list of trans/female voices in the US political system. Yeah she's fucking weird and she may seem like an odd choice for a congresswoman but the US government is largely made of people from strange backgrounds like this. I've talked with a Washington representative, Eric Pettegrew, who used to be an OSU quarterback until he started getting more involved with his local government and went on to become a prominent member of the Democratic House. Or Representative Javier Valdez, who told me he used to be a drummer before he started working for minority-focused labor unions all around the state. And both are fairy weird individuals, a lot of people in government are, and that's because they're human beings as flawed as anyone else who come from diverse backgrounds.
But does that mean we should shame these people because maybe they happen to have a shitty attitude? If they're making positive change (or at least trying to) in congress does it not seem short-sighted to bicker about the fact that they're an attention whore, does it not seem childish to shut this person out by making sick burns about how gross they look?
I'd like to see any relevant links to Wu's lies and/or the alleged puppet accounts, because once again my memory is a bit aged and there was a lot of misinformation in the GG shitstorm. Remembering that the allegations of Phil Fish famously doxing himself were a total hoax gives me pause when looking back on claims like this.
Then you probably remember how she tried to incessantly make the entire scandal about her, by spreading lies and fabricating attacks towards herself every day for months to an end. I don't remember specifics at this point but if she made some, any claim, there more than likely was proof that it was a lie.
People don't hate her just because she (probably) has schizophrenic paranoia, proved to be a pathological liar and an egomaniac, made awful art and games, but particularly because of the damage she did to gamergate's discourse of ethics and corruption by constantly derailing it into drama and gender politics just to feed her ego and paranoia.
It's already been posted in the thread man...
Too bad it probably never will. Hell, nobody ever heard of Brianna Wu until some dickheads cyberbullied her and the resulting media shitstorm made her out to be a holocaust survivor or something.
I honestly think the photo of her with glasses looks fine. It looks better than when she got interviewed on the street about being gamerraped, that made her look like a meth addict or crack whore or coke fiend or whatever other synonyms for "human trainwreck" come to mind. Come to think of it, why are women who complain about being harassed online interviewed on the street in front of shops or something? Do they think the news agencies are also gamergaters so they want to meet in a public place? Do they want to look very strong and determined on TV so they meet at the birthplace of the devil worshippers, EB Games and GameStop?
For some background on the lying, there have been a lot of suspicious circumstances with things Wu has done. Take, for example, the "Operation Falsefag" drama. Wu uploaded a JPG infographic pertaining to harassment which supposedly ('supposedly' because the original image on the site was never archived so there is no longer a way to verify) had the same checksum as the image uploaded to 8chan and was created days prior, meaning either it had been sent prior by trolls to stoke the flames of drama, or Wu made the image and uploaded it. Apparently when called out on this, Wu deleted everything and reuploaded the image with a minor modification to change the checksum.
But if you look back at the course of GamerGate, starting from it's very source, it was hardly about ethics in games journalism. I was one of the people who believed that the Five Guys scandal was a perfect answer to a community-- particularly 4chan, and the bit that branched off to populate 8chan-- that was already out for blood, a community that largely felt dissatisfied and lied to by what we believed to be a horribly corrupt cabal of games journalists and developers. But the inciting incident was a blog post shared by a jilted ex-boyfriend who decided to air his dirty laundry and share all sorts of private conversations and personal details about a woman that cheated on him. And what, according to these ethically-minded people, did Quinn do all this sleeping around for? Why, the ultimate goal of getting a brief mention in a kotaku article that barely anyone read of course.
Now it's inarguable that game journalism is guilty of a lot of incestuous relationships with big name game developers who have a history of wining-and-dining members of the press in exchange for biased coverage, but looking back at it, Zoe Quinn was pitifully small fish to fry, and I don't think the backlash and death threats and harassment she got was even close to proportional to her actions. The story only caught traction because it was the first story of its kind with a substantial amount of evidence to support it, and the implications of the story pulled a lot more focus than the facts of the story itself. We were looking for any story that would legitimize our fears of corruption, so we impatiently and rabidly went after some random indie dev who slept with some random bloggers.
And even though I believe GamerGate had something of a level-headed core of people who really wanted to talk about journalism ethics and separate themselves from the trolls and hackers and doxxers and people who literally called Quinn and Wu's family members and threatened them over the phone, it can't be denied that GamerGate started out as a bunch of memes and in-jokes about some game developer sucking a bunch of dick.
It would also be incredibly hard to deny that creations like Vivian James (and the TFYC fundraising campaign, which turned out to be a more profitable scam than anything Quinn, Wu or Sarkeesian attempted, considering they raised ~$70k for a game jam that never happened) and the re-branding of Quinn and Wu as 'Literally Who' and 'Literally Wu', were conscious, transparent efforts to deceive onlookers and spite GG's opponents. While there are some choice nuggets of good intentions in GamerGate and even some positive changes that resulted from it, those things are buried under a massive pile of shit and ill-will.
Anyone who really believes that people like Wu still deserve to be punching bags this long after the fallout of GG need to seriously reflect on why they feel this much genuine hate for someone whose worst crime is getting roped into some Tumblr drama and making an ass of themselves. I could live with being that shallow when I was 19 but now, when there is potentially real government policy at stake, and we have two people who are in a position to have their lives and careers destroyed at the snap of a finger for petty reasons, I just can't abide by that attitude at all.
[sp]Sorry for the run-on sentences and walls of text.[/sp]
Wu wasn't relevant and should have stayed irrelevant to gamergate. But she didn't because she made attempt to force it to be about her DAILY.
Whatever you think gamergate was about or should have been about is also irrelevant here. What matters is how Wu repeatedly proved her mental instability and moral bankruptcy during it. That's why she isn't some random crazy person, but also someone whose deliberate actions have pissed off a whole lot of people.
I have to post this in a second thing instead of using my edited post, as quoting is not working properly for me.

Wu also supposedly made videos from the same house after "running scared after death threats", something which I couldn't be fucked verifying or disproving, so have an image on it.

But more importantly, what's actually verifiable is that Wu's self absorption and ego knows no bounds. As examples, when the FBI didn't immediately arrest everyone Wu asked them to, she started to insinuate that the FBI was run by pro-Trump gamergaters ( https://archive.fo/YxOxm ). More importantly, there was a particularly nasty incident where the family dog died, and instead of grieving, Wu used it as a chance to attention whore on Twitter about how "GAMERGATERS POISONED MY DOG AND ARE GOING TO ASSASSINATE ME!!!". It was later revealed that the dog was left outside all day in one of the coldest portions of winter. ( archive.is/ql3ye#selection-793.0-793.137 ). I don't think anyone who does either of these things is worth anyone's political time, as it shows either a total lack of self control or a desire to turn every situation into one that revolves around yourself. Neither of which are desirable traits, and especially not among people in positions of power.
We have already seen enough of what happens when irresponsible "daddy's money" egotists get into politics. Why do we need another? More importantly, why should we trust somebody so self absorbed, easily set off and irresponsible to actually uphold their policies? Because they're "different" and will bring a "fresh perspective"? It's not about "being on the wrong side of Gamergate" or whatever, it's about being personally unsuitable for the job.
yeah but she's championing rights so that means shes ok now please vote for my wif- i mean Brianna Wu
Looks like she's about to open her frill and spit on Dennis Nedry.
The problem is they really can't tell the difference. They're so reactionary to the fact that the right sees everyone as progressive crackheads that they are as blind to the nuances in intentions and policy as the alt-right are.
Anyone with decent and well intentioned interests would probably be seen as regressive to them.

I appreciate her chutzpah
I can see her skin mask is peeling off, this alien scum can't fool me
We need GOOD trans representation, people who are a positive example of the trans community as a whole. Brianna Wu is an extremely negative example of it. We need a trans individual whose actually capable of speaking a full sentence coherently.
Her advertising campaign is embarrassing garbage that doesn't demonstrate what her campaign is about, it's just a dumb of dumb meme shitposts that no one, not even her target audience, will get listen to beyond rolling their eyes and turning it off.
Her entire shtick is being a game dev and she is a total failure at even that. When she can't even handle the stress of using twitter, how is she possibly going to get anything down in congress.
She is a complete idiot who has no idea what she's doing and because of that shouldn't be any position of power.
So no, she would be undoubtedly a terrible thing.
Yall straight roasting her damnnn lmao got me fuked up
The Massachusetts primary is today, live results here. She currently has 22% of the vote of district 8.
Anything is possible in a post trump era voting environment
I knew I've seen her before !

16k votes. That's just disgraceful!
It's a shame she only got 23%, but I'm proud of her regardless. In the end, I'm glad to have voted for her, volunteered for her campaign, and donated $20,000.
wow i never knew we had world famous game developer brianna wu on facepunch!
Well, if Trump won, anyone could I guess.
I'm surprised she got this far
