I sure do hope he isn't right in the slightest. This really sucks so badly. I'm really for his vision of getting people to mars, pushing space exploration to the front... EVs, boring company... etc. But he's risking all of that with whatever the fuck he is doing now... He need's a good slap back into reality and focus on what is important. If he goes under and drags SpaceX and Tesla with him through the mud, this is bad for everyone in general. He has enough people after him in general. (Big Oil, Big Space, Big Telecom) But his biggest enemy seems to be himself right now.

He's choosing to do this to himself, it's his own hubris that lead him down this road and he's actually thinking and saying these things now. As for Tesla and SpaceX, I mean they're sort of cool. But saving the environment by making luxury cars and privatizing space aren't exactly high up on my list of things that need to be preserved. My only real concern with him tanking his companies are the employees, that he already treats like shit and always has. This isn't a great man's downfall, this is us realising a "great man" was never that great.

Honestly electric cars won't make a significant impact until they break out of the luxury market, something Musk is actively opposed to doing. And space travel, private or otherwise, is little more than a novelty as long as we're dealing with human lifespans and sublight speeds.
