I mean Elon might be an asshole, but your posts literally just come off as feels before reals - Elon says bad things, therefore everything he's ever done is bad, and also he's actually retarded and not intelligent at all.
Space travel has immense benefits, and while electric cars won't save the world, this "Tesla doesn't even want to produce an affordable car" is just downright wrong. I don't know if you've looked at Tesla's earnings reports, but take a look at them, and imagine if they were selling cheaper models with lower margins, then stop talking out of your ass.
Space travel in and of itself doesn't really have any benefits, it just has in the past resulted in the development of technologies that turned out to have applications beyond space. And I didn't say Tesla doesn't want to produce an affordable car, I said Musk doesn't, because he's made it very clear that he would rather continue making luxury products and add more superfluous features to them, attempting to make affordable cars was a decision the company made independent of him.
I don't think that's what he meant. Tesla is making cars that are less affordable than they should be. I don't mean they should charge less for them, I just think the base car is loaded with expensive gimmicks that only increase the cost. If they didn't go for all those weird choices, they might actually produce an affordable car.
This is not true at all. You can't just start building $12,000 car out of technology that is barely mature. Tesla had to build expensive cars first.
The Secret Tesla Motors Master Plan (just between you and me) | ..
I don't even know where you're getting this idea. The Roadster, Model S and X were never supposed to be within the realm of affordable. And the Model 3, whether you think so or not, is a mass market affordable car. It's not meant to be affordable to people living on minimum wage. Tesla doesn't have the economies of scale for that sort of project yet. The fact is, the cars are getting cheaper and they will continue to get cheaper. The Model 3 will be available for $35,000 one day. The Model Y should be even cheaper. You can't just make these things cheap when the battery alone costs as much as a cheap car. That's the whole point of Teslas extreme investment in battery production. It's impossible otherwise.
This is where companies like GM or Ford or Toyota would have a unique advantage over Tesla if they decided to go all in, because they way more capital and production capacity than Tesla, and can therefore make much cheaper cars if they just made them like an Electric Corolla.
If your battery is really expensive, you can’t just put a shitty car on top of it, because it’s still not cheap, and suddenly your car also doesn’t appeal to anyone in any other price range because of the shitty interior and the lack of features.
You need to sell the thing as well, after all.
Right, but if they didn't spend 7k on a tablet in the middle and opted for a regular dashboard, it would actually compete with other electric cars. Having a normal dashboard doesn't make it a shit or low quality car AND it would actually lower the price to affordable levels. They could always have the tablet and other gimmicks available as an upgrade if they desperately want it.
Where are you getting this figure? I'd assume in 2018 that having a screen wouldn't be that much more expensive than a bunch of well-designed switches and knobs, when you consider materials, production, and future updates.
Electric jets aren't impossible, they're just a really stupid idea. As it is, the most efficient batteries would have to be 42 times as efficient as they are now to actually compete with the energy density of jet fuel. Most commercial planes can take off with a larger weight than they can land with, and this excess weight is lost through the burnt fuel. A battery doesn't lose weight. That would mean most electric planes can't carry as much weight in batteries either. As if that's not enough reasons, electric jet engines weigh a lot and don't really scale up that well. A high-bypass turbofan is pretty lightweight, and it's very efficient at cruising speed while still providing a lot of power at low speeds.
If they want electric airplanes, they should use electric propellers. At least those are viable.

Space travel in the past was considered a "blue skies" endeavour, which means despite the wide reaching societal benefits because it wasn't very monetizable it had to be mostly government funded. Most of space travel is still in that category but spacex is managing to fill the niche of space industry that is profitable and then is funneling that funds to blue skies categories of space endeavours. I don't see any meaningful distinction between the benefit from technological booms that result from blue skies space investment and the space travel itself they are inseparably linked together and you cannot pursue one without the other. The only motiviation seems to be to try to downplay the importance of space travel for political reasons which seems to be the idea here.
