'Battlefield V' Censors Words Like 'Nazi' 'Titanfall' And 'White Man'

While I hate most of what they've done with the game, the not having swastikas in the game is pretty standard for a lot of WW2 games where you play as the germans as someone else in the thread said. I recall quite a few games, like company of heroes also avoiding the nazi topic and instead just using the Balkenkreuz, which isn't too inaccurate to life either.
They say "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity", but when you're dealing with corporate entities it's most fitting when applied the opposite way round, assuming greed in place of malice.
My personal theory as to why they would censor these words to begin with is because they know it's absurd, and they know they would get publicity for this.
Reddit, news websites, and other sources will have to bite the bait because it exists, which draws attention to the game. It wouldn't surprise me if EA pretty much thrives off of infamy.
They're gonna probably later say "oops, we did a bad" and tone down the censorship in the game and make it all better, after they feel they've gotten enough attention for this.
Dont worry, Im sure nazis will find some new euphemism for wh*te m*n.
Maybe like Aryan Brother or something idk.
I honestly just believe it's a mistake by their part, there are many ways that making a global dictionary of bad words can go wrong, especially with how many different languages exist. But honestly, I don't think stuf like that should even be obligatory, every game should have a way to remove filters since they always get in the way, and it's a M rated game ffs, I won't die from seeing the f word in chat.
Isn't the whole "Remove Swastikas and Nazi symbolism" something they have to do if they want to sell the game in Germany? I thought any/all allusions to the Nazi German era were outlawed in Germany? Hence the altered version of the "Mr Hitler" cutscene from Wolfenstein.
competent developers just patch the German edition so they don't remove content from the rest of the civilized world that doesn't bizarrely clamp down on free speech in the context of artistic content
i'm praying for a day where game developers just flat out start refusing to patch their games so that German people have no games unless they pirate an international edition or force the government to change their dumb outdated laws
you're being a tad dramatic
can the filter be turned off?
Is this game schizophrenic? The gameplay looks super gritty with people screaming and gunshots and explosions everywhere but everything around it is like EA are trying to turn BFV into Overwatch.
Last month they changed the law so video games are also allowed to show swastikas in a non-glorifying context now, just like movies. Maybe you should chill out before you go praying for a market ban of people whose only motivation was to not encourage any more nazis, flawed execution and all.
DICE have always been hilarious with censorship. I think attempting to censor chat in a game where you can [plunge your knife into a man's knife while staring into his eyes] kill people at all opens up a can of worms. BF:BC2 used to censor any word that had a part which was considered inappropriate, for example if a word contained the three letters 'nig' it would be fully censored so nobody had any idea what you were talking about. For example, "SniperKillerXX, get on the minigun" became "get on the #'!@*" and made you look like a nutter.
Dice/EA needs to stop making war games if they want to be ~progressive~, and start working on the next hugbox echochamber game, something like secondlife. No violence, where everyone can be the snowflake they want to be.
Lol has their developers gone senile like old Donald Trump?
Considering there are multiple reddit threads and videos on the matter now, they probably added those solely to stop people from being dickheads in Twitch chat about it.
The word spaghetti was censored as well as some other random word that couldn't have been misconstrued as anything else which makes me dubious that this isn't some kind of screw up on their part with the filter.
The thing is, here in Germany the laws don't recoqnize games as an art form but do so with movies and books. The usage of Nazi-stuff in books and movies is covered up in some law that was written in 70s or 80s I think and videogames weren't included back then. And so far they still aren't included. Which is why games with swastikas or containing Nazi's aren't allowed to be sold.
So either the word filter is hyper sensitive, or EA/DICE are really doubling down on the ridiculous narrative of white men who are neo-Nazis shitting on their game because it has a woman in it, while censoring Titanfall at the same time because of people saying BFV is going to be "the next Titanfall" in terms of sales.
It's funny in GTA. You cant say "Gay" but you can say "Gays"
So you can say "Gays need to die". But telling people "I am g**"? That's a step too far son! I'd go so far as to say that it's r******
This is actually somewhat interesting, basically the only way for errors this extreme is some sort of machine learning or AI type word filter. It must still be in development and maybe they're using the beta to "train" it further, still though i dont think such ais are anywhere near ready for actually policing human speech, it'll be either way too leniant or way too aggressive. The obvious 'solution' to this 'problem' is to just have a checkbox in the options menu to enable or disable the multiplayer word filter for people who don't want to deal with it... Those things should always be optional fancy new machine learning shit or not.
They changed the ruling recently.
Knowing how much people modded Battlefront 2 to this point, I hope somebody makes a mod that brings back some historic accuracy regarding flags and shit.
If only the Nazis had banned words, everything would have been fine.
o wait
So are they doing the same bullshit that Youtube is doing and leaving moderation to a retarded "learning" AI? Because is really sounds like that.
I played Second Life in 2005 and it certainly had war sims and dicks and even rape scripts
Italy confirmed for not being added to the game.
Use the correct term please

Are you being sarcastic, or has it been slow on /pol/ today?
I think its a shitpost trying to make fun of people who think that WW2 game with actual nazis in it should use the swastika
