A Halo 5 port doesn't seem too unrealistic, especially since the PC already has part of 5 through the Forge port. I just hope that both ports have proper mod tools. 343 has said in the past they they were working with a modder to bring CE maps to MMC, so hopefully they're working on that and mod tools before properly announcing a PC port.
Modding's not gonna be an issue if the game releases at all. It will be possible immediately to dump the UWP and then register it to run unpacked, so you can edit the files freely in an unencrypted state. The biggest problems, which also would occur with a Win32 version, will be disabling the cryptographic signatures on the .map files themselves and tools to actually make anything. The signatures will be patched out in like a few days I think but the tools will take a lot longer. We'll see some simple mods really quick like projectile swaps in the first few days. The good mods will take a bit longer, depending on how much the .map formats have changed.
Does Win 10 still put UWPs in a folder that you have to jump through security loops just to even access? If so, then most end users will not want to put up with that just to install some mods, same with potential modders. I know it's technically possible to mod UWPs as I was observing modding progress on KI before it ever hit Steam, but it was quite slow just because of all the things one had to do just to even get access to the UWP.
I mean, there's no point in supporting Win32 games anymore as far as MS is concerned. Win32 is on borrowed time and is aging. Once UWP is mature enough, will be an optional backwards compatibility mode like NTDLM and not installed by default. On top of that, Xbone already runs UWP apps, so they don't need to rewrite the entire game. It would be mindbogglingly stupid to rewrite the game just for Win32, when the UWP version is mostly done.
Usually Frank O'Connor squashes these kinds of rumours.
This is true, he usually hangs around on resetera
That isn't as powerful of CE https://youtu.be/1HuMEgsQT9w https://youtu.be/ZLzHWx0kBGM CE has a LOT of stuff you can do with it, As much as I love HO/ED, CE actually can do custom BSP. ED might get there later, but its not there now.
I recently got hit with copyright strike for sharing Halo 3 map files. That’s something Microsoft has never done before. They probably noticed that modders have been able to convert those tags and load them in ElDewrito.

Halo 5 is not heading to PC, says Microsoft rip fuk u m$
They'd live up to the "$" if they actually released it tho.
they'd get $$$, sure, but the M$ thing is about being grubby, such as refusing to port games to squeeze-sell shitty consoles
Sucks, but unsurprising. 5 was regarded by fans as a flop and looking at its campaign alone I'm almost inclined to agree if not for its really awesome Warzone mode. Halo Infinity probably has greater priority first and foremost, and I'll be honest with you - if any Halo game is going to be ported, I'd rather it be ported right instead of getting some half assed port for a game that many fans look the other way on
