I'm up in the Richmond VA area. Done most of my prepping already - got water and food for a week, car is at like 90% on gas, gonna pack a bugout bag. Main concern is that I'm fairly close to a reservoir and right next to a tributary stream. I'm in a third-floor apartment on a small hill, it'll need a 40-foot flood just to get the bottom floors wet and a 70-foot flood for my apartment to be underwater... I should be safe but I might evac anyways if the storm tilts northward.
' http://www.city-data.com/w9/bfm24719.gif lmao I guess this is how I die
do you have anybody inland/near DC that you can go to? Or are you just gonna look at hotels

Gonna just ride it out here in Raleigh, got enough food and water for weeks and live in a 3rd story condo. Will be interesting to see what happens.
Is it bad that this is the first think I thought of? https://stardustjunction.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/yamibakura_display.jpg
Floridian who went through Irma here: Stock up now. Apparently stores up there are already starting to run out of stuff. Water is the most important thing and stores should be getting it right up until they have to close down.
Allow me to translate the SC Part of the News and Evacuation orders: IF you live in the LOWER/COASTAL AREAS of South Carolina GET THE FUCK OUT. The hurricane seems to be narrowly missing places like Charleston; But the storm surge and rivers flowing back into the sea at an accelerated speed won't.
Long post time. This tweet reminded me of those peak performance memes. Other than the 3 existing hurricanes, you can see south of Florida there's a little somethin' that might develop, something over Texas that would've maybe developed if it wasn't already inland, and then in Africa you have two blobs that might go out to sea and become something. Lots going on. https://twitter.com/KPRC2/status/1039258285852057601 As mentioned before, Florence is up to a Cat 4, now with wind speeds up to 140 mph and a pressure as low as 939mb, down from 946mb five hours ago. The threshold for Category 5 is 920. Expected landfall is pretty much the same area. The possibility this bad boy could reach Cat 5 is getting higher and higher. https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/storminfo/06L_tracks_latest.png https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/storminfo/06L_intensity_latest.png https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/AT06/refresh/AL062018_key_messages+png/205721_key_messages_sm.png https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/AT06/refresh/AL0618WPCQPF+gif/205721WPCQPF_sm.gif https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/AT06/refresh/AL062018_5day_cone_no_line_and_wind+png/205721_5day_cone_no_line_and_wind.png Check this out. I'm plenty inland (Midlo area, short drive from Richmond), just close to a reservoir so could get flooded if there's Harvey levels of sustained rainfall. I'm checking with nearby friends and family to see who's highest. I'm not too concerned because I'm pretty far from the projected main path, and a 40' flood would be pretty crazy. I definitely don't need to evacuate from the region, just maybe somewhere further from the rivers.
VA governor has issued a mandatory evacuation for all A zones. https://twitter.com/VDEM/status/1039268415670820865 Check your zones here.
Oh boi, I live in Zone A but I'm expected to stay on my ship for this.
Are you in Norfolk? If we survive, I'll take you out for a beer.
Due to climate change these types of hurricanes will only get more severe and happen more often. But nahhhh, none of these big fucking storms which hit our coastlines are not indicative of climate change.
Thought I'd share this. https://www.reddit.com/r/TropicalWeather/comments/8hn99w/hurricane_supplies_and_recommendations_thread_2018/?st=jlwa2r4i&sh=cba2e371
As someone who has lived in Florida my whole life, and has sat through a large number of hurricanes, there are maybe 10-20 things on that list you actually need to have, and should probably already have half of around the house for normal circumstances. Plus, if you are preparing for the storm now, you are already beat. Luckily for that area, the elevation changes will weaken the storm pretty quickly, and aside from the flooding, there shouldn't be too much damage. The winds will die out fairly quickly after landfall, and it will be tropical storm level dangers within hours. The coastal surges are the main threat here.
Not much to report on the newest Reconnaissance run. Remains a Cat 4 with sustained winds of 140mph. Pressure has gone up to 344mb. The increase in pressure is likely (don't quote me on this) from the storm undergoing an Eyewall Replacement Cycle. Once it's done it should begin to re-intensify. https://twitter.com/pppapin/status/1039324508509753344
Sis and her family have already made preparations. All I can do now is pray for her safety.
lmao I'm getting a flight from DC at 9pm on the 15th wind set to hit DC at 8pm if I never post again, it was lit facepunch.
The main threats are going to be surge for the coastal areas but rain is also expected to bring heavy inland flooding since there's a chance the storm might stall. Latest Advisory: https://twitter.com/NHC_Atlantic/status/1039347289721118722
Already had people panicking and flooding into the gas stations and stores where I am in the CSRA area of SC, can only imagine how things are going down closer to the coast. Thankfully found out a few friends who are in Charleston are able to evac to closer to where I am, nice and far inland.
Nah, my ship is currently in yards, which is great since we're getting supplied power and water from the pier so if that goes then I get to spend the rest of my time in darkness smelling like swamp ass. I'm probably just going to throw everything in my closet away from the window and then drive my car to the off-base PPV garage, but I feel like a lot of people have that idea already.
Thursday is looking pretty Fugly https://puu.sh/BtebM.png
My sister and niece are in Fayetteville.
Fuuuck me it's headed right for Cherry Point. I was supposed to fly up to Boston and Maine next weekend to hang out with my family days before I EAS and move back to Texas, rip
Both Lanes of some interstate highways opened up for mass evacuation. https://twitter.com/TrooperBob_SCHP/status/1039556723680395264?s=19 Overnight pressure has increased to 350 with winds of 130mph. It's expected to intensify again as the ERC seems to be complete. Both the euro model and GFS now suggest a stall on or near the coast.
Sounds like my Saturday nights. Stay safe, fellas
https://twitter.com/j_theharper/status/1039456780105986051 So here rainfall estimate in forecast map and my county Alamance County is in very dark purple (Hurricane itself) 10-16".
Zone A in Norfolk, VA. Mandatory evac started today so I slipped out before sunrise to beat traffic. Only place I can go is my home in my central NC between Raleigh and Fayetteville. Hopefully I didn't just jump out of the frying pan and into the fire. Family here not taking this seriously enough at all.
Best of luck to everyone currently in the path. I'm in the Eastern shore of Maryland pretty much just waiting for the storm to show signs of moving North enough that I need to evacuate as well.
