More realistically I'm guessing it would be one of those agencies checking out just another UFO sighting, expecting to return with nothing conclusive as always but taking it seriously just in case.
That said, probably some human crime being investigated it being the FBI after all.
The whole thing with FBI dudes messing with antennae just screams surveillance crackdown to me
I think we can safely rule out solar activity given that the sun can be seen in places other than New Mexico
Up here in Oregon we can't see the sun. Check and mate.
The sun is gone! It went completely dark in the Netherlands!
if its aliens im not going in to work tomorrow
That's precisely why they won't tell us about the aliens.
I think its most likely someone was doing something illegal on the transmitters. If they've spotted something then what reason is there to shut down the observatory? Surely that's the opposite of what you want to be doing if you've just spotted some shit.
I'm thinking the FBi might be using the transmitters/antennas themselves for some purpose. Possibly the observatory is in a prime location to gather evidence or to intercept domestic communications.
Either that or they're checking if a foreign government covertly took control of the transmitters via a sabetour to do the same thing. The observatory might be in range of military bases and they might have some way to intercept communications from those bases, leaking secret information.
You're fixating on the wrong thing with this logic but even so, the chances of extraterrestrial contact versus terrorist activity is basically nonexistent since the FBI would have shit all to do with aliens. Even if it were some shit like Al-Qaeda or Sovereign Citizens (Russians would be far more likely though) it's still completely possible. It'd in fact be a pretty decent idea because that would make it more difficult to trace the source of the message. And since we already know Russia's been probing our infrastructure to begin with it's certainly possible they'd have considered trying out a method like this to see how it would work out for them.
I can't comprehend why you would constantly go "I'm not saying it's aliens but it's aliens" like you are. We've been trying to prove the existence of extraterrestrials for decades, if not centuries, so how is that possibly more probable than misusing antennae for a purpose that is totally realistic?

Coincidence? I think not
Its likely they spotted one of the really fucking secretive military satellites. Basically nobody knows where they are or what exactly their capabilities are outside of the government, so its a big fucking deal if some nerds with a telescope spotted it
that lazy rigging on his shoulder is annoying me more then it should.
resonant likes his conspiracies
whatever happens, people are going to claim it was aliens for the rest of our lives
So I did some reading into this and learned in another thread that the observatory operates under AURA ( Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy ).
AURA, in turn, is under the National Science Foundation. This is a Federal organization and why the FBI would be involved. They are handing the facility over to the New Mexico State University.
It sounds like they have been shutting down their operation with a skeleton crew over the last year as the university is moving in to do whatever research they have planned. It's possible there were some government things going on there that were classified and they are simply getting their equipment out before the university can take completely over. This might explain why there's been reported sightings of people messing with the antennas.
A very good and plausible explanation though that doesn't answer why the post office has been shutdown. That makes things very bizarre.
Talking with my boss, he suggested it might be related to cartels instead of Russians, using it like a communication point that piggybacks off the local communication equipment and post office.
If they're handling classified information then closing the local post office would restrict the capacity for someone to leak classified material. Could be just as simple as trying to prevent people from mailing classified documents to elsewhere in the US.
Of course you could just scan it but I get the feeling that it's SOP in the FBI playbook to close places like that when they're handling classified information.
My other question would be why they did it all it once since they'd likely have known for a while this is coming. You'd think they'd want to get it out as quietly as possible and just do it one piece at a time. Doing it this way instead just draws attention to the matter.
when you run a secretive government organisation sometimes u gotta remind everyone who's boss
i'm just curious as to why not even the local police have been informed as to what the FBI is doing there
nerds with a telescope have been spotting spy satellites ever since they were launched
there's nothing secret about the location of spy satellites, only the capabilities and tasking
if you do it quietly, there's no conspiracy theories to act as disinformation if something leaks
you do it overtly, everyone and their mother speculates, now a leak is surrounded by disinformation
some bigger (not RT or daily [INSERT TABLOID NEWS TITLE HERE]) are starting to pick this up

got a feeling it might be sabotage-related of some sort
Found the probable cause to the odd closings. Aimed was suspect in sending CP online.
New Mexico observatory closure stemmed from FBI child porn probe
