they'd better fucking have pepsi man on there
I'd prefer psvita for this kind of stuff
Not surprised in the slightest, the past couple of months the NES and SNES Classics have been near the top of the hardware sales charts for NPD, beating the regular consoles in some cases. Time for Sony to cash in.
They really need to expand on the games list cause hearing we're only getting 20 does nothing to inspire confidence from me. There are so fucking many classics they could have used to drum up buzz for this thing. Just a few off the top of my head include Metal Gear Solid, the crash and Spyro trilogies. There's also the classic RE trilogy, hydro thunder and jet moto. Need for Speed 3 also comes to mind. Silent hill, the tomb raider games. The list goes on. Id kill for this thing to have Jackie chan: stuntmaster. Loved the shit out of that game and hated losing it.
They are. The problem is that there's always been a large demand for backwards compatibility which sucks for the console manufacture because they of course won't get a dime from old ass second hand sales of games long out of print versus direct digital sales. There are technical and cost hurdles sure, XB360 software emulation on XB1 was something a long time in the making from what I heard, but the real reason why you don't see backwards compatibility? Because you won't be making a dime off of past gen releases.
This better include Einhander.
The problem for sony is that all "their" classics on ps1 are made by other companies. Its got to be a licensing nightmare.
They better include Ocarina of Time.
Odds are it will contain games that were particularly significant in the early years of the Playstation. Resident Evil is possible as it was kind of a big deal back then, though odds are likely it will be the same Director's Cut: Dual Shock Edition that is everywhere. Here's Hoping Twisted Metal 1 and 2 make the cut, as well as an RPG or two that isn't Final Fantasy VII. Preferably Suikoden II and/or Breath Of Fire III.
Wouldnt it be kind of hard to play the dual shock edition without analog sticks?
Its called Dual Shock Edition, but is playable with a normal controller(or at least not using the analog sticks).
It's not a PS1 without Twisted Metal.
"We want consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one.' We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else."
But I could probably find a preowned PS1 and games I actually want for around the same price or just get an emulator and a rom set for free I've never understood why you would get these mini consoles unless you're a diehard fan of the console/company.
This really surprised me considering one of their execs, Jim Ryan (head of global sales and marketing) said that he didn't understand why people would ever play ancient titles like PS1 and PS2 titles. https://www.forbes.com/sites/olliebarder/2017/06/06/sony-still-does-not-understand-why-people-want-to-play-classic-playstation-games/#5f66eeb03890
I've never played games like these on offer, so i'd like to get my hands on 1. Though with the list thus far i'm not feeling all too enthusiastic. I'd really like to see Sony bring their heavy hitters on this console but I have a fear they might not..
big surprise: profit-chasing robot in suit doesn't understand what fun is
I wish these classic consoles could read the original software. Oh well, I still have my PS3 for HDMI PS1 games
if people hack this thing wide open like the NES and SNES mini that’s the first thing i put on there
I've just received word from inside sources that Microsoft is working on a Xbox Classic. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/129/fb122fe9-dd31-451f-9afa-c1e601903fce/XBox_Lifter[1].jpg This is roughly the size of it.
I'm sure this will sell well, but I've always had the feeling that a lot of games from the N64/PSX era don't hold up that well these days. Mostly because devs didn't have the whole camera control thing down pat yet. And even moreso when it came to shooters. I guess it will mostly come down to what games they decide to include. Also, 100 bucks and they can't be arsed to put in an ac adapter? Come on. They're going to come out with another one in a year that has dual shock for $150

If they actually cared about nostalgics they'd release an updated original that can still play the original games if you have them or play downloaded games from their web store. Fuck outta here with this cash grab.

Worth if for HDMI... and if you can hack it like the nintendo minis
if you have a go you can get a dock that connects to your tv
PSTV's are cheaper if you can find one
It looks like that cover on the back where the serial port was can come off. Anyone know what it could be? SD slot maybe?
I just got a Dutch mail about it from Sony, so no need to worry.
I believe you mean FIVE HUNDRED NINETY NINE US DOLLARS https://youtu.be/BOHqG1nc_tw
