I can't get excited over an arm soc in a pale box, I'd be happy to be proven wrong and it's literally anything else inside.
Meh still gonna wait till the PS1 is a real antique so I can cash it in

I would buy a new Xbox if it had the original hardware and HDMI out
Honestly, this whole thing is a missed opportunity. Instead of trying to surpass and exceed Nintendo's efforts, they're sticking for merely brand recognition in trying to replicate them. If I was heading this thing i'd make it cover the PS4's fault in no PS1 games on that system by making this thing a PS1 Classics machine. Dualshock instead of the classic vanilla controllers (though they could be purchased separately perhaps), with support for PS3 and PS4 controllers. The 20 games free up front, but the system would have a wi-fi connection or maybe even a direct ethernet port if necessary so that you can register the system (and games) to your PSN account and then download and purchase other PS1 games with the ability to backup / expand drive data with memsticks or flashdrives. Hell, maybe even make it like the PS3 to have a working disc tray that can outright play compatible discs. They have the infrastructure, system and everything for all of this, including emulation programming and working parts, but instead they let easy, sustainable money flow escape their grasp for the sake of a cheap nostalgia cashgrab. There's an audience for this, and if they took care of them, there would be less chances of people cracking their systems to put whatever on there, but Sony just doesn't seem to care.
I think a disc drive compatible with PSX discs in particular would make this thing a) the size of a PSX lol b) probably $50 more expensive
Sony's not the wisest bunch. The disc drive was kinda like a "maybe that too" sorta thing, but implausible. Still, making it a specialized PSTV isn't as much so, and they already wasted so much time on the Vita before abandoning it and doubling down solely on PS4. It actually bothers me way too much that for all the PS1 classics I have on my PSN account, I have to go get my PS3 for them since my PSTV is missing in my house and the PS4 still hasn't added them in any capacity whatsoever. And Sony would probably try to force me to buy them again or some shit.
Wonder if they put a USB port back there for connecting a controller or maybe it can sync with dualshock 3/4s and they hid a sync button back there.
The controllers already connect via USB.
neat, I thought the ports were some proprietary connector like nintendo uses
You can see that it’s definitely USB ports, so those controllers might work on PC also, and it just opens it up for being hacked easily too.
I'd buy the fuck out of a Hardware Emulated PSx with these features, plus the games.
Better have metal gear, crash, and spyro roms
An xbox coffee table that actually played original xbox games would be sick.
Dino Crisis 1/2 please...
Oh cool, they included Wild Arms. I'm happy to see it here.I wonder if they included any game that isn't already on the PSN store. I doubt it. Hopefully this will be easy to hack though. I love the look of the PSX and controller. If I were richer, I'd probably snag it (which is what I think of the NES and SNES minis).

I actually have a bunch of MM3's and were installing them for people when i was really low on money
Sony dose what Nintendid
The PSIO will also be an option in the future eventually, especially since it still needs a modification to bring a couple signals to the parallel port.
Parasite Eve or bust.
I warned people about this back when everyone was shitting on Microsoft for the whole "Online always" bullshit they tried to pull, and they just lapped Sony's bullshit up instead. It infuriates me what companies can get away with with fanboyism and shit like that.

there are holes in the table that the rest of the cable goes into underneath the controller - even the original one to the right is doing this
Not shipping dualshocks is a mistake.
you wouldn't want to take away dualshock 4 sales would you
watch as they release it as an add on for like $50
I'll be a devil's advocate and say that a lot of PS1 games didn't support analog controls, which people forgot, because most hits had support for both Dual Analog and Dualshock.
yeah but when you first got DualShock it was pretty clear there was no going back. It was so much better. It had vibration.
what?
