start selling "memory cards" preloaded with 20 other games as expansions
They've confirmed they're not going to be expanding their library in future, and no analog means no Ape Escape or many other interesting analog control games. Spyro on D-pad controls like arse.
I'm just going to put a Raspberry Pi in an old PS case. Going to be a nice neat project. Hoping to have: USB, PS2 and bluetooth control support. HDMI output. Ethernet or WiFi (unsure what Pi I'm using) to add new ROMs. It's gonna be USB powered and turn on with the case switch. Little worried I may not be able to get the reset button to do anything though. Even a headphone jack output as a little nod back to the audiophile PS. Most of the parts are on their way now, going to have to do some cable shortening though. That's always fun.
If I get this sorted then I may come back in some time to see if I can somehow make a CD Drive work, that'd be interesting, if not borderline impossible.
I don’t think you have any shot of having PS2 work on a RasPi if it still has problems running on cheap PCs
Nah, just PlayStation 2 controllers i.e the usual analog DualShock 1 & 2 controllers. I know there's no chance of getting anything like PS2 emulation running on a Pi.
If you want to do PS1 games you really have to go with a Pi 3 B+, the Zero only runs a handful of games if any. Even on the 3B+ you should probably go with an odroid XU4 or something else that’s more powerful than a Pi. Tearing down an Intel Compute Stick is an okay choice.
People keep claiming it's a cutdown PSTV, which would make a lot of sense. If that's true, it means after the latest Vita firmware gets hacked, it will be possible to play PSP games (since PS1 games on VIta/PSTV is just PSP mode with POPS); or even Vita games
all it needs is DualShock and it's literally the dream PSP/PS1/Vita machine
*sticks filled with mems.
I'm still bummed that PS2 emulation sucks on PC.
At this rate, RPCS3 will probably have a built-in, more functional support for PS2 emulation sooner than PCSX2 will.
Honestly this could be quite a cool little nostalgic time waster, but it really depends on a) the selection of games and b) the games being faithful to their original releases.
where tf you buying ps1s from that they are worth that much, cuz you can get tons of cheap ps1s on ebay.
Maybe I wasn't clear enough? I'm emulating PS1 games on a RPi 3 B+. One of the input methods I want to support being PS2 controllers doesn't mean I'm going to try and emulate PS2 games. It's really not that tough a job and a million and one people have done some variation of it.
My bad, for some reason I thought you had said that you weren't sure which Pi you were going with.
Nah, I was always intending on using at least a 2. Whatever I could get my hands on. I've done some work with Pis and my stepdad has done shit tons with them, so I had options laying around the house (and at work). Though, the main reason I didn't bother with something more powerful though was price: I wanted to put together a functioning PS Classic for less than £30 and I managed to hit that with £29.81. Benefits of buying used and having crap laying around. Sure, I could get some fancy mods going on with a more powerful board but that wasn't strictly the goal. I'm just waiting on the PS2 adapter now, and the delivery window is Wed, 10 Oct - Thu, 08 Nov. Which uhh... oops.
