• You're Trash, Brock: Venom debuts to predictably bad reviews

The only likeable characters in the movie were Eddie, Dan I think it was and Venom himself, the banter between Eddie and Venom was good and so was the cgi but the pacing and plotholes are fucking laughable
It felt like half a movie tbh, it spends so much time setting up Eddie (and Tom Hardy did a good job all things considered) going back and forth then sorta drops in a half-assed half-hinted antagonist and then it's over in about half an hour. TBH something like Venom would benefit moreso from a TV series with better pacing.
I don't understand reviewers saying that CGI was bad, i think it was pretty good? Venom looked awesome, and if anything, the depiction of the character makes this movie worth to be watched even if the plot is rushed. You can see that Tom Hardy had a blast making this.
Yeah I dunno what they’re smoking calling it bad, probably just hipsters that hate CGI period and know this effect can’t be practical. They probably don’t realize how much is in other marvel movies. the final fight could’ve used a better frame rate or something though, tad difficult to see what’s going down
'Venom' Delivers October Opening Weekend Record.. "With an estimated $80 million, Sony's release of Venom into 4,250 locations not only topped the weekend box office, but it topped the previous October opening weekend record of $55.7 million set by Gravity in 2013 by over $20 million. The debut ranks ahead of the $75.8 million opening for Ant-Man and the Wasp earlier this year and just behind the $84.4 million opening for Solo: A Star Wars Story. Both films went on to gross over $210 million domestically, but before we get that far, one thing everyone will have their eye on is just how well it holds over next weekend. " "Internationally, Venom delivered $125.2 million from 58 markets for a record October global opening over $205 million. " jeez its makin mad cash. Still gotta see how it does next weekend but yea it's pretty safe to say it's a hit.
What was the number for Saturday? Thursday - $10m Friday - $32.75m they haven't updated their tracking for yesterday yet here https://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=4443&p=.htm I know the projection was estimated to be $80m, when they say "with an estimated 80 million" are they referring to the projection already made or did it actually get $37.25m yesterday?
Guess that confirms we're getting a Venom trilogy.
Dunno if Hardy is gonna be on board with that, hopefully not
he definitely is?
Why not? We had a blast with him, and he had a blast doing the movie. I at least want more.
Safe to say you're getting it, Venom kicked the crap out of not one but two of Sony's opening expectations so far, Tom wants more, Harrelson is excited to do one, etc. at the worst they'll waste time on Mobius and other stuff before Venom 2, but it'll pretty much definitely happen.
Good opportunity to push to rater-r sequel perhaps?
Tom's probably trying https://youtu.be/c8F3nk6gQxQ?t=162 right here he goes on about thinking R could work, then goes on about how bad he wants to take Venom to the MCU movies
Gonna go see it tonight. My brother told me it really wasn't that bad, but I guess I'll have to see for myself.
Well, looks like my first hope (for Venom to be terrible and earn zero money) won't come to fruition, so now it's time to move to Plan B: Integrate Venom into the MCU. Sony clearly wanted that to be the case from the start but Marvel didn't want to play ball, which makes a ton of sense given the former's track record. Now that Venom is out, profitable, and mediocre/okay/good (depending on who you ask), they might be a bit more open to the idea. This isn't an unprecedented concept either, as I seem to recall plans to add TASM's Oscorp building to The Avengers' New York. Maybe release a director's cut with that unreleased footage and hopefully elevate Venom up to the MCU's standard. I know Marvel doesn't need Sony, and this isn't at all faithful to Venom's origin from the comics, but I'm just so desperate to see Spider-Man go up against an actually good Venom design. I'd love to see Venom appear in Spider-Man 3 (and delay the Sinister Six until Spider-Man 4). I know Holland's contract only includes three solo films, but I can't imagine a scenario in which Sony outmaneuvers Disney and steals Spidey back for their own use. Plus Holland is so young that he could easily pull off two Spidey trilogies.
They left the Daily Globe reference in, so his origin isn't TOTALLY different. He still lost his job over Spider-man catching a real killer he interviewed a fake of. It just took a lot longer for him to get the symbiote. Maybe Venom could see Pete as an appetizing host and abandon Brock for him like an unfaithful lover for awhile, Peter realizes the suit is evil like usual, breaks up with Venom making him crawl back, to give Eddie and Venom a reason to be angry enough at Spider-man to fight him. Then it's like the same origin all over again, just in slightly rearranged order.
That'd kind of be like Ultimate in a certain way, i seem to remember the Ultimates cancer-suit wanted to get with Peter because of his DNA. Actually they could do something like the Ultimate game.
I like how Venom reminds me of Venom from PS1 Spiderman. Which I suppose its what Venom should be, aka "its the right Venom, and not a fucked up adaptation". PS1 Spiderman Venom was dope.
Todd McFarlane approves of the movie, he put great emphasis on that he was glad Venom was actually big. Also thank god for getting the voice right, even as a child watching Spider-man 3 I was like ??? when they had Venom still talking as Topher Grace when the mask was up
I was really banking on there being a reference to "SURF THE WEB SURF THE WEB SURF THE WEB" but alas it was absent.
Seems like the film is a crowd please if anything
SORRY LADY
If in the possible sequel he doesn't call Spider-man-Holland "Spider-Wuss" I'm walking out.
...but you'd have to stay to the end to see if that happened?
I saw it this weekend and enjoyed the crap out of it. I'm usually pretty snobby with movies, but I walked out feeling like it was corny and silly and goofy all on purpose. I wondered if everybody involved knew how much of a garbage fire it was going to be and just had fun with it. As a result it worked really well. The script was really funny, the actors seemed to be enjoying themselves, had some great set-pieces. The only majorly poor bit was the CGI garbage fight in the finale. Which, somehow wasn't a big hit against the movie. Oh, and the closing credits are a Venom rap where Eminem repeatedly rhymes Venom with Venom.
He isn’t though Because they're gonna taste my Venom (I got that) Adrenaline in 'em (venom) Not knowing with 'em Never gonna slow up in 'em Ready to step in momentum Thinking it's time to go get 'em They ain't gonna know what hit 'em (When they get bitten with the) Venom
Imagine how awkward would it be if they joined the MCU and Eddie Brock turned to dust in Infinity War. One second Venom is a big monster in an action scene and the next he's a pool of goo on the floor.
Or better yet, the symbiote is snapped and leaves regular ol' Eddie to fend for himself against some giant monster.
I noticed in the To Protect and Sever clip that the vocalization on his roars was damn near identical to the Ultimate game, which was a nice touch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJu8i04xxlY
