Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has a huge grinding and microtransaction problem

Im 99% sure no one is defending ubi with this. They are calling him a baby because most of ubi's games are not fucked like this, especially siege.
Ah true, I kind of forget that part of it.
Later you can face anubis and other gods and its a glitching point with fucked txt and ui stuff.
it's goldfish memory to ignore ubisoft's colorful history of fucking their customers
And its silly to attack people for enjoying games that are not fucked by whining about them leading the industry to the shit dimension. Not all ubi games are total money hogs with horrid microtransactions, and obviously people are not happy here with the fuckery with odyssey, so that's why hes getting baby ratings for freaking out like one. If anything, it teaches ubi that people wont put up with their shit, and will support their good actions ala siege/FH/origins.
When games move to streaming and you pay 60 a month for the privilege of not owning any content but a permission token to suck their dick, they'll be first in line on board until they can come up with their own version and charge you 120 a month, and you'll pay because you love the assass fappening breach tacticool goggle simulator 2027 season pass edition, because you probably shouldn't be having kids.
Siege is probably the best competitive game to come out since CS:GO, and has free maps added in every update along with easy ways to get the operators by just playing the game. Id compare siege more akin to TF2 than some money grubbing shitstain that hes trying to make it out to be.
I'm pretty sure Ubisoft has never fucked over progression in a single player game to facilitate purchase of micros, though. That's why everyone was so shocked about this.
Not directly but they are somewhat deceiving with the "Starter Edition", a model which they already copied to For Honor.
Basically its really shitty idea to buy the starter edition as it will only give you a massive grind compared to the standard edition.
Granted I'm currently not sure if it changed or if the starter edition would in the end cost you more if you can't stand the grind but its technically not fully free of Ubisofts shitty practices.
As for Odyssey, I really hope EA and Ubisoft collapse under this full price microtransaction shit.
Just disgusting to sell cheats or selling you what was probably the original leveling experience as extra bits.
Its just infuriating.
Read the article - seems to me like the guy just sucks - plain and simple. If the mission he's playing has a recommended level of 15 you should be able to complete it with some challenge to it.
He also can't defeat an enemy that is only two levels above him. Then he claims it took six hours to level up twice without explaining what he was doing to attempt to level up. Was he just going after low xp animals? Sounds to me also like he just skipped most the side quests early on and was plowing through the story.
If this game is anything like Origins, I would ignore this article. I'll look at other sources and possibly pass judgement on it myself by playing it. I won't give them a pass on the microtransactions - they're scummy but otherwise useless and don't hinder the gameplay experience at all.
Have you played origins? You almost cannot kill an enemy only two levels above you.
Wait what, six hours to go up 2 levels from 15 to 17?? He's not doing something right, I went from like 16-21 in like 4-5 hours. I play my open world games with a comb, so I always visit unexplored places and clean them out. I don't know I just play the game like I usually play every other Ubisoft game. High value targets be it named NPCs or if he even he even has any droppable loot at all, I just go in and kill them. I myself still haven't hit a brickwall as of yet, but me having to spend like 4-5 hours to get from 16-21 is already a bad omen for me. But so far I keep getting side tracked from the main mission, doing all sorts of side stuff that by the time I realize I should continue the games story, I'm already like 1-2 levels above it.
Starter editions were there for people who want to pay less and play a lot more to grind. Pay the normal $60 and you unlock all base operators/warriors. Its a grind, but you get what you pay for, they even say it in a big ass block above the package that the grind is near 10x bigger if you go for the starter in steam: https://support.ubi.com/en-GB/faqs/000025116/Starter-Edition-FAQ. They clearly list the difference between the starter and regular. I don't know how you fall for it or it being deceiving when they give a Q/A and the price difference. The starter edition is $15, it takes $35 in R bucks to unlock the rest of the roster (or grind via in game currency), so either way, you're paying 50-60$ for the same product.
Also note, starter editions were not available at launch and I personally don't consider them part of the issue. If the base game had the issues the starter version had, then yeah its horrible, but you get basically a demo of the full game for 25% of the price.
Guys, easy fix:
Buy the game if you want to play it, then throw the box in the garbage and pirate it instead.
You'll get all the DLC and no DRM, and you still paid the devs.
While I don't agree with their microtransactions, I don't know if I buy that the game is grindy. From what I've been hearing there's a fuckton of side content to do in the game; not sure how you'd be required to grind out exp if that were the case.
Trust me the game gets grindy. Even in Origins what would happen is that it quickly became a slog after level 20. And the problem with it is that it's exponential difficulty hidden behidn levelling itself; an
enemy a couple levels above you -will- one shot you. Even the Phylakatai aren't much of a problem when they're either scaled to you or equally geared.
I haven't freaked out at all. You're being robbed blind and you have been for years, and if you feel the need to defend it perhaps you should examine the realtive quality of the installments you're defending. I got the same ratings at exponential levels higher for noticing the same type of trends with valve and electronic arts, and the next predatory rondo will be no different.
You're defending a game and platform producer that doesn't give the slightest fuck about you as anything other a number in a quarterly statement, and someday you will probably be forced to figure that out.
They only fucked me slightly with a nice smile this time
is a fucking stupid defense, again which in time tends to bear itself out.
This is what i seriously think happened. I was always over-leveled in Origins and Polygon are shit at playing the games they pretend to cover.
No, you're overreacting like usual. People saw through this con as soon as the game came out and people don't want to support it. Meanwhile Siege has total revamps in gameplay/meta, new maps being added every month with two new operators that are "free" and loads of QoL changes and balancing. Its exactly what CS:GO wish it could do, supply tons of cosmetics for premium currency, while adding tons of refreshing maps/metas every update every month or so instead of quarter. Same goes with FH and old characters getting entire moveset changes, new game modes, and still getting free maps along with the DLC characters being easy to get and also "free" even though player count has dwindled down extremely. Tons of people are having fun with both series, just because you want to cry about people having fun with said series while not spending a dime bar the game it's self, doesn't mean you're right. Same goes with Origins, wildlands, and WD. The only thing you'll be missing in all of them is cosmetics, or entire expansions like Origins having 2 new regions/stories in each DLC that take 5 hours for one, 10 in the other.
If you want to get your panties in a massive wad, go attack Bungie with destiny 2 getting absolutely no new content unless you buy their well overpriced DLC, and even then a lot of it is sectioned to the cash shop which is lootbox based or grinding for loot box based. That's on top of the main game being content starved to the extreme, and the plot being completely barebones unless you get the DLC to expand it at all. I'm not defending Odyssey at all, but you can't lump all the games ubi releases just because the publisher can shit on some games in their lineup.
It's like trying to compare and hate on HL2 because you don't like Artifact, or hating Halo 3 because bungie made D1/2. Judge the game on their individual merits.
Hasn't been cracked yet but nice try.
That's a matter of patience
It'll probably take a lot longer for an Odyssey crack to be released. I've heard Ubisoft has ditched denuvo in favor of the world's most secure software, seven instances of Norton anti-virus.

seven pages of MTX
And gamers will eat it up because gamers are cattle.
Well, this explains why the Twitch Prime Loot for this gives you literal horse armour (among skins for other things, but still).
Was Origins similarly notorious for the same thing? Cus' I sure as hell didn't experience any tedious XP grinds, sure situations where you were too low level to progress the story did occur, but reaching the recommended level was never a slow drag IMO
Historically accuracy is a dumb meme to begin with across all franchises.
That's weird. because i did literally nothing but main quest and side-quests marked by an exclamation point. I totally ignored doing forts unless it coincided with a quest i was already there for. I only ever hunted to upgrade equipment twice. I literally was overleveled from alexandria and onwards to a point where i had to enable enemy level upscaling to bring some fun into it again. The exact same thing happened in W3 and it's seriously what i think is happening here as well.
Until this same issue is remarked upon by actually credible reviewers like ACG and the like, i can't really take their assertions at face value. All of these people have demonstrated again and again that they utterly suck at playing the games the write about. From gamespot to Kindafunny, from Giantbomb to Polygon. some have more integrity than others, but none of them are worth a shit at making gameplay videos.
I'm putting down 100 coins on me being able to finish odyssey the exact same way i finished W3 and Origins. Mainline and side-quests compeltionism and otherwise ignoring the rest apart from whatever you just tend to do on a whim... And i'll do it and end up over-leveled as fuck too.
Well I wanted to get this game because I waited REALLY hard for a AC game set in Greece after the Ezio Trilogy, but seeing this and the apparent BS grind I might as well rent it first before diving into the hype.

in response to the Sterling tweet, isn't this just the Far Cry 5 approach of letting you buy every outfit, vehicle, weapon with real money even though it's pointless since ingame currency is so easy to get? You could literally just shoot deer for like 10 minutes and buy a helicopter gunship that breaks the rest of the game
So glad I never got into these games, watching the series turn into a train wreck over the years has been very satisfying
