The annoying thing though is that games will still probably be locked at 30 FPS because they're gonna push true 4K as much as possible So imo still not worth the money
Backwards compatibility isn't that far off - in the past 3 years Sony has invested in a PS2 emulator (PS2 classics on PSN) and a PSP emulator (Patapon remaster). RPCS3 is progressing nicely, so Sony with their resources could do some magic on their next console
I would much prefer a console with built in RTX, 4K, HDR support alongside next gen (not talking the shitty 750ti level GPU in xboxo) graphics, like holy shit if you have to make games look like they just slithered out of the asshole of a 360, it should have more power, even if it comes with a higher price. I do think the levels they have are benefical right now though, its nice to see the difference between a 200$ POS used console and a brand new 500$ 4K behemoth.
im announcing fuck sony and noone should ever support their new console with all the shit they pulled with the ps4 and psn
The 2080 Ti can just barely do 1080P @ 60, and it's a $1200 GPU. Expecting anything near that in a <$600 console is hilariously misguided.
MS is pretty much already there. The Xbone is just a locked down Windows 10 PC with a TV oriented UI and built around UWP. Hence why MS is definitely moving away from a pure Xbox exclusivity and including Windows PC's with the Xbox Play-Anywhere program. It either pushes Xbone hardware or Windows 10. There is literally no downside.
Honestly, I think this is the right move. Makes me wonder why Sony on the other hand is even sticking around as a manufacturer to begin with. I mean, what do they still offer the console market that they couldn't do as a third-party? Traditional consoles are a dying breed, I think. You have Nintendo off doing its own thing, Microsoft integrating Xbox into PC gaming (because it pretty much is just a PC now), and PS4 with similar hardware to the Xbone is doing... what, exactly? Holding out for pride's sake?
I bought my PS4 with a copy of Bloodborne. I had no idea it was always 2 years old by that point.
Playstation is practically the only thing Sony has that is making them money, they aren't ditching it any time soon
Do you realize that old hardware breaks and becomes scarcer over time?
I've never personally had an issue of an older console dying on me, I've had an Xbox 360 die on me but that's about it, I played my Original Xbox a shit load and it never had a single issue, so maybe I got lucky on this.
If Chad Warren doesn't become an official spokesman for the PS5 I'm going to never buy a Sony product ever again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyufDxxWIsM
The single greatest threat to the Original Xbox hardware today is the integrated clock capacitor. Xbox was made in the age of shitty capacitors and MS cut costs. These caps are known to leak acid onto the motherboard and ruin the machine. For the love of god remove it if you want your Xbox to live.
Does anyone feels that this generation felt a lot slower than previous generation? There was a lot of massive hype and shit when we went from the 6th to 7th generation but the transition from 7th to 8th just felt like nothing. Heck, it still feels like the PS4 and Xbone were released 2 years ago when they're already the same age the PS3 and 360 were when the 8th generation began.
Mobile gaming became a thing. You're probably also older, and only getting the one latest device for Christmas isn't even on your mind anymore. At least for me, I've got other bigger things than game releases going on in my world, I could buy a PS4, XB1X, and Switch, but aside from just a couple exclusives, my needs are already met with a PC, and that has just been a continuous path from each generation to the next.
Sony pushed 1080p @60fps in the early days the PS4, but they can't really force devs to follow this. However in the frst year or so, MOST retail titles were 1080p @60, like 65% or so iirc. I have no idea how this changed over time. Many devs will prefer to trade framerate for more resolution or extra fidelity regardless of the specifications though, but it's important to remember that it's always a developer decision.
Wii U.
I'm just going to completely skip the first version and buy the PS5 eXtended version or whatever. Or just not going to buy it at all. I bought the PS4 at launch, and the amount of exclusive games I actually enjoy are still very few: God of War Spiderman Bloodborne + DLCs Uhh... yeah?
Yeah I did so ages ago, I've been using a modded one for a bit now mind you, but the capacitor never bricked my Xbox.
Hell yeah are you all ready for 15 re-releases of Red Dead Redemption 2 with PC version being last.
This sort of thing is why I'm worried sick about my '07 Wii. The disc drive in particular. Plus my original Remotes have dying speakers. While I consider GameCube the more repairable to the two (since its disc drive is a drop in/drop out part) there aren't any ODEs for either.
Don't focus on making everything look hyper realistic, make the games run smooth and at least at 60 fps. I'll never wrap my head around this.
you can hack your wii to read from USB hard drives
The very reason why games look so good is because devs push for 30 FPS visuals on consoles. 60 FPS games don't look as good obviously.
Are you serious? Look, I really like playing games on pc and console. Honestly, I do even prefer the console because I don't feel like sitting at a desk all the time. That said, most of the games run pretty awful and can barely keep up 30 fps. There are some exceptions though but for most games it's still pretty awful. If the games would at least keep a constant 60 fps, it would be far more enjoyable to play and control games. Sure, you're right depending on which game you play you won't notice it but some games are pretty awful. Bloodborne is pretty awful.
I think the only thing holding me back from getting a PS5 or a newer Xbox gen console is if BC isn't included I know 100% the new Xbox will have BC since the games are ported now for x86 and will also be BC with xbone titles but Sony has a history of not really being too BC-friendly but id like to believe they would change that
You can hack the vWii in the WiiU the same way as the normal Wii as well and run games from removable storage.
I wonder if streaming games is going to be a bigger thing with the next Playstation. It seems like the eventual way forward.
Yeah, but where does this leave the original GameCube hardware? What about all the things the Wii can't do, like the LAN Adapter Functions for MarioKart and Game Boy Player?
Beats me. All I do when I want to play a game is take the hard drive off my roommate's Wii and plug it into my HTPC with Dolphin.
