It's kinda amazing that literally nobody seems to have any problem with the legalization except a handful of soccer moms. It really grinds my gears though that the CAQ is trying to restrict it as much as possible. God, what a bunch of assholes.
God damn it America come on fucking step up
Medical dispensaries restricted to legitimate medical patients only (like, say, cancer patients) have existed in major BC communities for ages, but the barrier to entry was a legitimate medical need, and after the Supreme Court ruling in 2000 legalizing medical marijuana often a MMJ license card (which was nearly impossible to get, by design). In the last five to ten years, depending on the community, dispensaries that sold weed to any legal adult began opening up, sensing cautious opportunity in the increasingly-tolerant atmosphere. These dispensaries operated entirely illegally, without even the weak legitimacy of serving only verified medical patients that membership-only clubs enjoyed. Operations that acted irresponsibly or were set up too close to schools/churches/playgrounds/etc. could expect to get shut down, while shops who consistently ID'd customers and maintained responsible signage, advertising, and operations were tolerated by local police, as they were a more visible, monitorable alternative to the black market, which has always been around. The licensing process is time-consuming, and so as of today, there's only the one legally-licensed pot shop, but many dispensaries have stayed open and conformed to the law by removing edibles/etc. and only selling what's legal, even though they're not licensed and therefore technically illegal. Many shops' license applications are in the process of being examined and many more are expected to apply, but the speed of bureaucracy means there's a transition period where these unlicensed businesses who were tolerated while pot was totally illegal continue to be tolerated, unlicensed businesses who are otherwise conforming to the law. I imagine that it's expected that eventually they'll obtain their license or shut down, but I don't know of any specific deadlines. TL;DR Dispensaries in BC were basically a situation of entrepeneurs seeing an unmet business need that was being solved by the black market, and then setting up shop and convincing the community and the cops that they'd act like liquor stores except pot (check IDs, no minors, reasonable business conduct, etc.), and even though they were totally illegal they were allowed to run because it hurt the criminal black market, which is often tied to organized crime.
Well you least two left-wing but nice Quebec nationalist and centrist Canadian Federalist/lightly reactionary parties can try their best to fight them back on Weed issue.
Kinda sucks that it seems you can't order from other provinces government websites. I checked most of them and the package has to go to a postal code within the province you ordered from.
Different provinces have different limitations and restrictions so tbh it's pretty obvious and understandable. Alberta is fine with gelcaps but BC is not, or at least is not selling any (from the same website) at this time. If it was a free-for-all online, then whichever province had the loosest regulatory regime would be the bulk of all orders, defeating the purpose of each province getting to control their own pot policy.
I get that but still, it would have been convenient you must admit.
Apparently this is all the waste produced from just 4 grams purchased at the NSLC. If true, something needs to be changed about it. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/109833/3c04f6cb-3a9f-4039-8508-1a1afa8bd5ba/image.png
I wish I was Canadian
It looks like standard packaging to me, but I do agree that it's pretty excessive for just 4 grams of cannabis. Don't forget to recycle!
Why are we going to do that so then we can jail people for free labor?

I've just been browsing the hundreds of news stories and came across this gem. “I don’t need to be a criminal anymore, and that’s a great feeling,” he said. “And my new dealer is the prime minister!”
Nova Scotia sells more than $660K in cannabis during 1st day of .. How much weed did your province sell??
Haven't found any numbers yet for Alberta but I believe we had more locations open than NS did so we may give them a run for their money.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/kamloops-approves-bcs-first-legal-pot-shop-1.4866234 Meanwhile... https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/port-alberni-pot-shop-raid-october-17-1.4868509 I wonder if they were selling edibles or other definitely-banned-now (for a year) products. If they were raided just for not having licenses but still selling bud, that's kind of fucked since there's generally been an attitude in BC where unlicensed dispensaries are expected to get on the process of getting a legit license, but can stay open to meet demand while they do.
I'm not a smoker, but I love seeing the reactions, and I'm really happy that people have more legal ways of doing it now.
Looks like observations on the amount of packaging is finally making the news. https://globalnews.ca/news/4569657/are-quebecs-cannabis-products-green-enough/ I'd assume most of the packaging is recyclable though.

Implying the Tories actually had much of a chance to begin with.
Well yeah but this just makes it worse for them.
There's a chance for a "bring in your old tubs, get a free nug" opportinity here.
I want to go to Canada so I can smoke weed and sleep properly. GOD New Zealand is ass backwards when it comes to this. God damn it I’m jealous of you Canadians.
I hope to god people dont start smoking it and then driving. Ive met plenty of retards who think driving under influence of alcohol is a no-no but smoking weed and driving is totally fine. Other than that, nice. Hope the people enjoy themselves responsibly
The government is now my weed man, this is fuckin wild
It's so awesome to know there's a country that, upon doing something as controversial as legalizing pot, their greatest common concern seems to be "Oh shit, that's an awful lot of trash..."
TRAILER PARK BOYS on Instagram Ricky approves
Feel like there should be a refundable program for them, like the bottle returns
Just further proof that Canada is the greatest country in the world
I went to Montreal last weekend, on the way back into the states there are giant pot leaf signs saying "ITS ILLEGAL TO BRING MARIJUANA INTO THE US"
