DayZ goes into Feature Freeze Leading to 1.0, Leaves out Countless Features

I don't think it's fair to treat ArmA 3 like it's DayZ. DayZ is a full blown standalone game that basically says no additional assembly required. The ArmA series has always been about player based expansion. The more you put into it the more you will get out.
WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME
Store page description still says this. Moving from alpha to release directly then?
Can't wait to refund it on "release" and blow the money on a better game.
I've seen a few people say they've managed to get refunds on early access games (that they bought a long time ago) when they release, but how? How do you get a refund on release if it's outside the 2 weeks?
This is to good, I remember all the posts blindly defending this sorry excuse for a game.
Anyway, bought it and pretty much regretted my purchase instantly. After a year or so I checked back to see that the game was still barely functioning.
Don't count on getting a refund on release. Steam changed their policy so it's complete random if you do or not.
My refund for ARK was refused when that released, despite only 6-7 hours on it. Other people had thousands of hours and got a refund. The policy is complete wank.
I will try anyway, I think it's perfectly acceptable to ask a refund if the released product doesn't meet my expectations. I've tried before while it was in beta but that didn't work, however I got told later that when it released there's a chance it might work out then.
I'm not sure about that. Arma 3 was more about providing a base for missions and modding. And it is so much more polished than previous games. I don't really play a lot of vanilla Arma 3, but neither did I play vanilla Arma 1 or 2. So why waste the effort developing a lot of content if it isn't going to be used? They spent that time developing other things instead, and it pays off. Almost every DLC came with either a large amount of content, or new mechanics. or both.
I love how every time they did anything with the game they literally just made it worse. I remember initially it was quite fun until the fun sucking devs made resources and weapons virtually impossible to find, completely killing the reason anyone played it in the first place
Refunding it on release.
I just tried refunding DayZ, I can't because I have 10 hours and 22 minutes of playtime ._.
bwahahaha saw this coming years off. I kept getting downvoted to oblivion by hopeless romantics on reddit whenever i would take the time to coherently explain why the kind of game they were attempting to make was way too ambitious and vaguely defined ESPECIALLY for that studio. Bigger and more experienced companies couldn't make the type of game they all had in their lofty imaginations, not would they even try because this shit is what happens.
From day one DayZ SA shouldve been "merely" porting the mod to a new, better engine and working on bugs and networking issues. The fundamental gameplay loop of DayZ mod was fine - more than fine, it was how it got popular in the first place. By this year Dayz had turned into something else completely, highly derivative and very fucking boring. Too much bullshit, too much derivative nonsense. Too much chasing this "post apocalypse survival simulator virtual reality" silliness instead of focusing on making a game with solid fundamentals. Who the fuck wants to spend 2 hours searching for fucking apples? This kind of shit appeals to a very niche set of NEETs who literally have nothing else to do but waste entire days away with videogames trying to escape into an alternate reality, for everyone else id rather hit ctrl alt delete and go play a better game.
dont buy early access games.
Sometimes it's worth it.
just like Kickstarter games - some of them turns out to be good
Problem is - they are overshadowed by scams, cashbaits and disappointing releases.
Still not regret getting some of them (Divinity - Original Sin 1 and 2, Underrail, Age of Decadence, lastets two had like 5+ years of developements).
You can't even fucking lean or use the stance system you had in arma 2, i've seen people defend this game and to be fair i've given it a chance but it's still god awfully boring. Especially in comparison to the Arma 2 mod which at least had some really great maps to fall back on and explore in but Chernarus is nearly a decade old now.
That's true, but I definitely am a lot more skeptical of Early Access games now. Valve really needs to wrangle in the amount of E.A. games they allow to make it to the front page of their store page. I'm fine with the games being available on their digital store; however, they should never be pushed to the main page alongside actual AAA titles or well polished indie games.
I bought DayZ originally because I like the direction the mod was going and assumed that because the dev team had BI's blessings it would lead to packing in more features and fixing the bugs at the time. Instead, they sat on it and collected money from alpha pre-sales and essentially shat on their customers. No one bought DayZ expecting it to stagnate like it has; people invested their money with the expectation of receiving a better quality game.
It honestly should be treated no differently than crimes similar to defrauding investors in a fortune 500 company. When you promise to provide a specific service or good you should be expected to do so, or accept criminal liability.
do your research before not buying early access games*
