MH even has sick pseudo-modern anti tank rifles, repeaters, grenade launchers, and other goodies already that'd blow your average audience's minds, why opt for SyFy B-movie tier generic military dude https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107007/aff9ddb5-47f7-4f06-8d6c-1b8aa8995199/image.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107007/5e14f01b-2730-41ef-8758-41dd29b52252/image.png
"Its supposed to be crossover" doesn't mean it's fucking trash and waste of potential and I really hope you aren't correlating this to a generic assault rifle which most likely does not reflect anything within the game in the movie as well. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/214339/98e0ff01-3e15-4461-bc1b-f5687dc76372/image.png "Crossover between worlds" is probably one of the cheapest way they could've done with the setting and it's just disappointing, especially with who they've decided to put as the director. The only way this movie might've interest me would that they pull something like the Ending E of Drakengard for the movie or else it's just gonna be garbage. There are tons of pop corn movies every years and I am sure as hell not gonna put any money on something that just ride on MH name's for branding.
Let's not forget the revolver in monster hunter https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/monsterhunter/images/2/29/MH4-Hammer_Render_006.png/revision/latest?cb=20140601034719
This is exactly like micheal bay looking at 80s toys franchise and going "how can I make a 2h american army jack off out of this"/borderline propaganda (it was sponsored by the army as long as he portrayed them as heroes) but at least transformers 1 was entertaining in some ways. This director made probably the worst hollywwood movie of 2016, the last resident evil movie was a failure on every level. Him still getting video games adaptations after a decade of running the resident evil name in the mud shows how this industry still has nothing but contempt for games.
It's probably more of a budget concern. Do you blow all of your money on good CG animation and setpieces or do you just get a bunch of nerds to hold M4s in Arizona?
Fun fact: The reason why Monster Hunter have some modern-ish tech like this is cause it's actually supposed to be post apocalyptic.
It is, but not of Earth.
Monster Hunter is going to be the new decade long saga just to keep the director's wife employed
The ancient civilization is your typical high fantasy "did the forbidden act and got punished" story. https://d1fs8ljxwyzba6.cloudfront.net/assets/editorial/2018/04/cloud-viewing-fortress.jpg
iirc the plot revolved around a portal opening up between the human world and monster hunter world causing monsters to invade i'm really hoping all the tacticool shit is just in the very beginning when the invasion starts, but they then realize their strategies don't work against them so they hop into the portal, go to the monster hunter world and learn to use their weapons and tactics to stand a chance against the monsters that invaded. that'd plot alone sounds better than the generic godzilla ripoff. at least the leaked scene with rathalos fighting gore magala in a mall looked good, except rathalos was apparently using the tigrex skeleton for movement but whatever.
Ah yes, pulling a Romeo + Juliet I see http://www.imfdb.org/images/1/1c/Tybaltgun.jpg "dagger"
I think there's also a lot of trepidation on the part of studios to embrace something so weird, and the standard response to that is just throw in some military looking dudes. Fans of the games won't like it because it's unfaithful to the source material, and average joes won't give a shit about it because it's some generic looking video game movie. Someone should tell these guys that the biggest movie of the year featured a talking raccoon befriending a norse god, so it's ok to make weird movies.
To be fair to Bay or anyone doing the same; by having the military in prominent, goodguy based roles they get special access to military equipment that would cost a fuckton to use otherwise, as well as consultants from actual military advisors as to how the equipment should generally be used, and personnel to fill in for extras, all to cut down on costs for making his movies extremely under budget which is why he's liked by his financiers and producers.
I looked it up and the stand-in stock action music is killing me I know early test footage gets that treatment for internal mood setting but man I'm reminded of the tom cruise mummy commercial that was accidentally uploaded without most of its audio channels
We need American weapons on this movie.
Why not make a movie about big robots when youre adapting Transformers and not give more screen time to generic american military garbage and make borderline military propaganda out of a toys franchise. Just dont make half the script some kind of trashy war movie and then you dont have to have to ask the military for actual tanks and weapons.
he'd better run out of bullets quick.
If you're gonna make a movie of a video game, at least don't utterly fuck it up more than RE and GItS. Don't do it at all if that's not the idea.
AT LEAST make it so the main guy goes in the MH world and he's the oddball in there with the weird clothes and the weird gun, making it in the real world just makes it into another "monsters invading the earth lol" movie.
i remember when i was a kid and we had terrible movie tie-in games now we got terrible game tie-in movies and i'm not sure which is worse
"Best build for farming crude oil?"
I seriously doubt that they would do anything like that when the premise of the movie sounds less interesting than the actual game its based on, and the first thing shown features generic military dudes Best they would have is some kind of McGuffin thats related to the game, like an elder dragon blood for example
