• 'We Have Less Time Than We Thought': Alarming New Study Shows Oceans Have Retain

If that is your belief I understand. I do not believe in that but at least we can agree that neither of us wants to take the chance. There was a day this summer when it was hellishly hot here too. I completely agree that you should do anything in your power, even if you yourself cannot change anything. Out of principle if nothing else. No, I was pointing out a contradiction in your statement. Yes, those people can be annoying and I think screaming at them that we are all doomed will not convince them to change their ways. By all means be alarmist but at least make your message somewhat hopeful.
You say that but what do you actually think global warming crisis will be like? When exactly does the everyone dying part come in
Its already happening, we're all dead on the inside
Depends where you live. When do you think the dying part comes into resource scarcity, demolished coastal cities, decimation of natural species', mass immigration from one unstable location to the other, overall temperature increases, etc etc. For some people, the "everyone dying" part comes in pretty damn soon. If you're not one of the unlucky ones, take a moment to count your blessings, then do something about it.
The dying also comes from the air being literal methane due to methane pockets under the arctic permafrost. Humans cant breathe fucking methane
Humanity isn't going to go extinct but it doesn't mean climate change doesn't have the ability to make some cities, regions and entire countries uninhabitable because adaption is too expensive and just not worth it. The US is apparently terrified of a hyped up migrant caravan so I can only imagine the response when entire regions just up and leave in a nomadic rout because of shifts in climate. I don't think people appreciate the economic and social damage of climate change. It won't end the world, just the world as we know it.
Exaggerated, my ass. https://i0.wp.com/www.gisresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Arctice.jpg https://3c1703fe8d.site.internapcdn.net/newman/gfx/news/2017/theglaciersa.jpg Billions will die. With a capital B.
My point with the methane thing is that we will very likely revert to hunter gathering and then go extnct, people saying millions are being conservative
The Clathrate gun isn't terribly likely owing to recent research on how methane gets processed through the oceans iirc. Permafrost emissions are more of a worry.
I'm asking because I want to know how Corn and others heralding omnicide think it'll go. I wouldn't count you into that group.
Man. I was really looking forward to having kids sometime soon but all of this throws whether I should into the picture. How could I possibly do so when the future is so in doubt. It makes me sad
You can always adopt!
He doesn't think it's an extinction level event, that's the issue. I'm calling it now, what will prove to be the longterm plan of climate skeptics and deniers is basically to obstruct or delay actionable responses for as long as possible, until the point where it's actually to late to fix or change anything, and then they'll cynically admit that they "knew all along," they'll wallow in self pity (WE DIDN'T LISTEN) or they'll say didn't care to start with (ie: killing everything and everybody to own the libs).
Born too late to explore the earth. Born too early to explore the stars. Born just in time to witness the end.
I know what you mean, I understand you But you're also wrong.
As a small reprieve of good news among the constant onslaught of horrifying stories, it appears the study may have had some errors. The story is linked below, and I made a separate SH discussion thread. https://www.washingtonpost.com/energy-environment/2018/11/14/scientists-acknowledge-key-errors-study-how-fast-oceans-are-warming/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.855aabb11cef
It might be an unpopular opinion. But the overpopulated area's of the world need birth control, we need less people on the planet, not more. Looking at you China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh They don't have the infrastructure to support their populations as it is, reps to China for at least trying to stabilize their population with the one child policy, but this cannot continue to go on. The biggest threat to this planet is humans and we need to take responsibility. The 1st world countries already have low-birth rates, it's time the rest of the world followed suit.
Number of children is inversely proportionate to the median family income. Improving living conditions, wealth and eradicating dangerous diseases will naturally reduce population growth in places such as Nigeria, a country that's anticipated to have a population of 900m by 2100.
That shouldn't be an unpopular opinion at all. We're not talking about enforcing a Chinese-esque mandatory child limit on countries and forcing people to abort their babies against their will (especially not anymore, since the people who used to defend that shit no longer can now that it's created a demographic disaster within China). We're just talking about improving sex education and providing condoms, abortions, and the pill to people who can't afford it.
That part isn't all hopeless, they aren't rabbits. https://youtu.be/QsBT5EQt348?t=260 Still 11 billion, it's like if we make it out of this shitstorm intact it's going to be just barely.
