and danish millennials can't read apparently
1 - that study is about americans, not australians
2 - the owned is a survivor of domestic abuse
3 - these kinds of jokes are fine
This is from the us you fucking idiot
I get the joke you're making here, but if you had someone over who is sober and has struggled with alcohol in the past, you obviously wouldn't point to this and try to laugh about it with them because it probably means something very different to them.
The actual joke existing, which is what I'm guessing you're talking about, is something people have to learn to cope with and shrug off when they do see it.
ah, the meta-analysis. the single easiest type of report to rip apart.
lets start with the organization conducting the meta-analysis. who the fuck is the national center for women and policing? the only references I can find online to them is their own website, news articles linking this one study, some directory listings, and this post. they don't even have a wikipedia article, and trust me some pretty irrelevant organizations have their own wikipedia article. about the only thing I did find thanks to one of those directory listings was that they're affiliates of of the feminist majority foundation. I also found through their website that their goal is to reduce police brutality by having more female cops.
Police Family Violence Fact Sheet
Two studies have found that at least 40% of police officer families experience domestic violence, (1, 2) in contrast to 10% of families in the general population.(3)
lets see. two studies (out of how many?) found "at least 40%" (ie two studies found different numbers [meaning one or both is wrong] and the lower of the two potentially cherrypicked studies was around 40%)
ready to hear where their 40% figure came from? (source 1)
In a 1988 Arizona study of 553 police officers and their spouses,
41% of male officers and 34% of female officers reported violent
assaults in their marital relationships compared with 16% of
civilians. Over one-third of wives of police officers (37%) reported
violence in their marriage. (Neidig, Russell, and Seng, unpublished)
that's right, an unpublished study. do you know the significance of it being unpublished? unpublished means it either never had peer review, or worse yet failed in peer review.
one thing of note there, it's 41% of male officers reporting domestic violence, and 37% of wives of police officers reporting. those numbers add up funny to me. you'd think more women would be reporting than men, unless it's either the men getting beat or the men are proud of doing the beating. who knows though, numbers can come out funny sometimes.
source 2 is unfortunately behind paywall so I can't rip that a new one. source 3 is behind a paywall as well but claiming 10% is already at odds with the first source's claim of 16%. only 2 usable sources in and we're already seeing evidence of cherrypicking.
A third study of older and more experienced officers found a rate of 24% (4), indicating that domestic violence is 2-4 times more common among police families than American families in general.
I wasn't even able to find the fourth source, though I found several other sources that cited it. what I can tell you for sure is that the claim that it's about older and more experienced officers is a load of bullshit, because the fop is open to all sworn police officers. I can also tell you for certain that this sentence doesn't make a lick of sense. how is it that older officers apparently hit their wives less often than younger officers is indicative of a 200% increase in domestic violence among police families over general population?
and here's a bit of anecdotal evidence. doesn't mean much, but I think it'll round out this post just fine. I know cops. in fact, I know lots of cops. I know cops who have gone off the books and buried personal firearms in victims yards or have hidden them in their houses in case the victim needs it one day. I know one officer in particular that has a small collection of cheap firearms for this express purpose. among the cops I know, wife beaters are one step away from child molesters
and now that I've ripped as much of this study as I'm willing to read a new one, I'll leave you with one last thing. this study is about american cops and the cop in question is australian are you dense or what
if we had to eradicate all things that are potentially troubling for hypothetical people, we may as well just end all that there is, because that's a fool's errand that would never end.
I don't like cancer jokes either, but I don't go around telling people not to do them.
I just don't laugh at them and thats it.
That image is fake, the website and the sign aren't real neither is the "law".
Oh so it is. My bad
I like the name. The batter refers to when you cover your wife in batter while you beat your fish. Wait...
