I'll usually take any opportunity I get to shit on resetera, but in this case I feel they're actually right. There's a reason this kind of depiction of native americans has all but disappeared. Cause it's a really old stereotype that was legitimately rooted in some of the worst kinds of prejudice, right alongside the shucking and jiving cartoon characters painted up in blackface. It is not anywhere comparable to the fucking Mario Brothers or Apu from the simpsons. The former are the protagonists of a massive franchise and are portrayed in as positive a light as Mickey Mouse. The latter character is extremely nuanced even compared to most of the other side characters on the simpsons, and the complaints were mainly about his voice and voice actor - which was why the decision to remove him from the show entirely has pleased literally no-one.
This game and watch shit though? It's completely one note and literally out of another era - which as Helix Snake pointed out, is why they already changed it for the re-release of the original game. Why they decided to stick in a reference to something Nintendo already decided was inappropriate for the 21st century is the real question. I'm guessing Sakurai or someone on the development team wasn't aware, and it will likely be changed in a patch.
The problem is, is that real shit is happening to Native Americans by the US government but zero outrage is generated because these people dont actually care about the culture of Indigenous peoples or the very legitimate civil rights abuses going on right now which deserve real attention and outrage. Outrage culture is about the war of attrition and trying to win brownie points in their woke peer group by screamming at anyone.
The more surprising part of this for me is that it clearly shows game and watch's dick.

Yet ResetEra acts like as if they're completely spineless and will simply break down and cry at what is probably one of the mildest forms of their stereotypes in existence. It's fucking insulting to them and everything they've been through.
Where are they saying as if this would be their reaction? I've seen people saying "it's a bit racist, should probably change" but no one ever implying that anyone's reaction would be breaking down and crying.

Nintendo changed the Gerudo flag because the original one resembled the islamic moon and star too much. They've made these sort of decisions before because at the end of the day it doesn't really affect the gameplay in any way.

I mean, I wouldn't have noticed and maybe some people were a little too upset about it but it being removed changes literally nothing about the game. I can see how it's an awkward thing to leave in so good on them for listening.
