The Fallout 76 beta now locks the FOV and caps framerate at 63 fps

I am not trying to say that the game is not enjoyable, it probably is a fun game if you are a Fallout fan or you like these kind of games.
But come on, this is a game with a AAA price, these kind of problems are inexcusable, Bethesda doesn't deserve your money.
I'm assuming it's a temp fix to keep the beta stable while they fix it for real. At least, I hope.
I admire your optimism, take this clover (since I can't give you the rainbow)
Keep in mind that this issue has been in the engine since Oblivion in 2006. Framerate-dependent logic is probably deeply embedded in the codebase by this point, and fixing it now would require a major rewrite, which Bethesda isn't really known for.
With all the architecture bugs and side channel exploits being uncovered, do you really want to run networked bethesda code?
Yeah, those are problems, but I don't like the whole "WHO CARES ABOUT IF ITS FUN" is /v/ "Fun is a buzzword" levels of stupid. If people find a $60 microtransaction filled game fun, let them enjoy it, yeah, give them shit for buying microtransactions. I don't plan to buy ANY of them.
Also, yeah, the engine is shit, I have no counter for that, they really need to change to ID Tech as they own that, but better keep modtools, I refuse to buy it if there are no mods at all.
Technical issues might get fixed if people bitch about them, this is a online game which they said they want to support long term.
Fallout 76 will last a long, long time
also, what security exploits? You mean that reddit post with no proof
yeah... about that.

Imo buying this game (especially at a full $60 price) is telling Bethesda that this kind of buggy insecure shit is OK. They keep getting away with it because they never seem to lose sales over it, and games media covers their bugs (no matter how game-breaking) as "typical Bethesda" as if it's endearing instead of just fucking infuriating at this point.
Seven years, a special edition re-release, and even bringing the game to Switch, and the most they've added are new visual effects, more engine stability, and an extra pair of new clothes in the tutorial dungeon. Not even an attempt to, say, integrate the community's unofficial patches or the like.
I don't get how they expect FO76 to have any longevity without the community fixing their problems.
oh well JUST BECAUSE YOU SAID SO suddenly having an fov under 100 degrees doesn't make me nauseous anymore
wow I can't believe nobody to me that before hahaha thanks man
"Fun with friends" instantly tells me the game is hot garbage and you can come up with no good reason why it's fun. Playing in the mud is "fun with friends", but not "fun".
Big Rigs would be fun with friends.
That doesn't change the fact that it's still a massive piece of shit.
wtf i need this
I've been playing the game and having fun and I'm playing solo because I don't have any friends
Checkmate atheists
I'm happy you're having fun
But I'm not happy that this game will almost certainly impact the greater gaming scene as evidence to major AAA publishers "People will buy half baked, half finished things, and we don't have to really do anything to make money now" and I think that's bad for the industry as a whole.
I'd say people should boycott stuff like this, especially if it doesn't even works as it should, but we all know how well that goes...
cool to know todd is just telling me to go fuck myself for going out of my way to buy a 144hz monitor
Really curious to see the critic response to this, will they give Bethesda their usual pass?
How do we make big changes in the gaming industry when it's nigh-impossible to financially protest bad or greedy decisions? There's a guarantee any AAA game will sell well because "fun" is a very low bar to meet and it's the only bar the mainstream gaming audience needs. When a company does something shady, makes irresponsible or anti-consumer decisions, that product needs to not sell.
That's why there's a heavy emphasis on "who cares of it's fun/fun is a buzzword" going around. It's not in an attempt to devalue or undermine the experiences of people who do enjoy the product, rather a way to deflect by default the idea that "all a game needs to be is fun."
There's nothing wrong with finding it fun!!! But there are critical flaws in the product, and you need to be prepared to talk about that if you're going to engage in discussion surrounding it. There's pages of discussion to be had on some of the poor and anti-consumer decisions behind Fo76. There's honestly not that much to be said about how, trust me guys, it is really fun.
don't blame this on gamebryo, blame this on the disaster that is bethesda softworks
Additionally, it completes the dump they've been taking on 1 and 2's lore.
I think people need to chill out. There's no evidence saying this is the only fix that Bethesda is working towards to fix the physics issue. For all we know this could be a stopgap measure until some update in the future actually fixes the physics. I understand Fallout 76 is a popular thing to dogpile on at the moment, but people really need to chill out and see how things develop for it. It's still in beta...
I remember when skyrim got announced everyone was pissed that it still used fucking gamebryo
This being stuck on gamebryo shit reminds me of valve's current game situation. Let's keep adding massives updates to games like tf2 and bloat them to hell yet still use a single threaded engine that is like swiss cheese due to security holes and do fuckall about porting to modern systems, let alone a loading screen that doesn't lock up. Say for example, where the fuck is the source 2 SDK? dota 2 was ported a few years back (and will probably be the only one to ever run on source 2...) but not a god damn thing about releasing the SDK. Why focus on issues that everyone is complaining about when you can just ductape a quick change and resell something for full price?
When it's an issue for as long as this engine has been around and how long it has been used for, you'll have to excuse me when I call bullshit, they're not going to fix the FPS Physics issue on this engine, EVER.
I will gladly eat my words but I'm pretty confident in saying they're never going to fix this long standing problem.
Do not confuse fisheye projection witn side field of view.
These are distinctly different things.
If you don't mind me asking- whats the issue with 90 for you? I had the idea that 90 was what was considered standard for a 16:9 monitor.
Welp I guess us with ultrawide monitors can get fucked then. I was maybe thinking about saying to friends 'eh, if you gift it I'll play' but now, I don't even want my friends to waste money on gifting it to me.
The game is coming out in like a week, do you seriously think they'd really fix the piles of issues that players experienced in the beta? Especially from Bethesda out of all devs?
Everything I hear about this makes it sound like hot garbage but every mistake sounds absolutely bizarre. Some of the issues mentioned like verifying shit client-side were sorted back after Quake got popular. It was a rocky start but I mean that was 20 years ago.
Makes sense, the human eye can't see above 90 FOV anyway.
